Enter the secret world of the butterfly with this handy pocket guide. Beautifully illustrated throughout, The Little Guide to Butterflies offers a modern reference to identifying these glorious insects.
Featuring 40 of the most distinctive butterflies from around the world, this book is the perfect companion for anyone looking to reconnect with nature, whether that's when out walking or from the comfort of an armchair.
Each butterfly has been exquisitely illustrated by printmaker Tom Frost and is accompanied by all-important information including their habitat, distribution and wingspan, plus an interesting fact or fable. There is also an interactive spotter's guide, where you can check off and note the date each time you spot a new butterfly.
Print maker and illustrator Tom Frost graduated from Falmouth College of Arts in 2001. He divides his time between print making, restoring his crumbling Georgian house in rural Wales and raising a young family. His work highlights a fascination for old matchboxes, stamps, folk art, tin toys and children's books and in recent years he has worked with clients including The V&A, Walker Books, Penguin, The Archivist and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Beautifully illustrated, this easy to read little book made me marvel at the natural beauty represented by the butterfly. I also enjoyed learning more about the symbolism of this genre. This book made me feel happy and I will give it as a gift to friends.
After owls, butterflies are my favourite animal, and I loved discovering new to me species within this book.
Each of the butterflies included - 40 in total - has their own double page spread, with one page being a stunning illustration, and the other detailing information on that specific butterfly such as habitat, lifespan, wingspan and more.
