Part of Usborne's new phonics series published in 2017; it's a shame this set doesn't include a picture list at the back (or even a text list) showing all the titles in the set. These add to the 2006 phonics books by having more of a generalized rhyme structure rather than focusing on a single sound and extending one main rhyme. The stories are fun and provide an opportunity to engage with kids about what they think will happen next or what decisions the characters might make.
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
One of the books in the Usborne Phonics Readers collection, this is an entertaining story of an ape's prison break and his exciting journey to get back home.
The story is challenging enough for younger readers and has a plot that is engaging, which will keep them wanting to read all the way to the end. The illustrations are colorful and cartoonish and provide some clues as to what comes next, which is helpful for reading comprehension.
I listened as a lower elementary student read this book aloud to me and we both enjoyed the story.
Ape was in chains for stealing grapes. He made the best escape route, as he plan was put into action he was caught off guard by the obstacles he had to face. Will the guards find him? This book is great for students just beginning to read because there are many rhyming words so it helps describe the book.
