I think this book works like a brochure. It gives the briefest, most general taste of what foster parenting is all about. And that, I think was it's greatest weakness. (Well, that and all the typos. I sure hope Starik Publishing is a vanity press, because otherwise they should fire their editor.)

I got some tidbits of information, but for the most part it was either too vague or too specific and technical. A lot of the focus was on fostering as a method of adoption. Understandably, this was how the author did it (same argument for all the info being about Texas). This is fine if that's also your focus, but it wasn't mine.

To sum up, I guess I was disappointed that there wasn't more meat to this, but if that's not what you're looking for (after all, it is called "A Simple Guide"), then it's probably good. I guess I just figure I could get the same info by spending an hour on the internet.

Please understand that I mean no disrespect to the author, who obviously put a lot of effort into this book while also parenting five kids. That's a crazy lot of effort. I just don't want anyone else to be disappointed by not getting the info they need.
