I picked up this book from a Barnes and Noble after just starting knitting lessons and seeing it was directed to “new knitters.” In retrospect, the title for this book is very deceiving. There might be one or two patterns for a “new” knitter. After successfully making a baby hat in garter stitch from a different book, I tried a 2 level project in this book and it was neither quick nor easy. The majority of the projects are at the 3 and 4 “beginner” level and quite a few are fairly sophisticated. I found out the hard way that even a 2 beginner level pattern was beyond my expertise. After getting help four different times to fix mistakes, I gave up on the kitty kat hat. While the book is beautifully laid out with attractive models wearing the finished projects, 95% of the patterns don’t fit the book title. Not recommended unless you’ve had quite a bit of practice using smaller needles, knitting patterns with size 7 or smaller needles with 125 + stitches, shaping, practicing a variety of techniques, knowing how to fix mistakes, etc.
I'm not a beginner but there are several projects in this book that look surprisingly sophisticated (Cutie Booties, Cabled Wristers, Lace Bandida). Lots of different techniques, stitch-wise and color-wise, to keep new knitters busy and learning. A great starter book for those new to the craft.
I liked several of the patterns in this book. Many seem easy enough for a beginner and some are more advanced with cables and lace and magic loop techniques. There are step by step instructions for some of the techniques and very nice photos of all the projects. Easy to follow patterns.
I'm not even remotely convinced that any of these projects are "quick", however, there are several projects which I earmarked to make myself so I give it 5 stars for great inspiration for beginners.
