Dying to Be Famous

Rate this book
In the fifth volume of medical stories submitted by first responders and medical professionals, the selected submissions are more intense than ever before. Submissions included within this volume are officer accounts of horrific crime scenes, strange sexual injuries, odd drug-induced behavior, shocking deaths, and warnings from RNs and M.D.s regarding publicity stunts and wacky ideas. Just when you think you've seen and heard it all, you'll turn the page and stand corrected.

Another good collection of stories.

Fair warning ⚠️ though: along with the funny ones, there's many that are intense/sad/disturbing (or combos of each) so just be aware of that going in 👍🏼.

The stories in Kerry Hamm's book Dying to Be Famous are of a more serious nature than her other books. I never experienced nor heard of such violent happenings in my years in the medical field. But I am glad she put these stories in writing for others to read.

Great stories, but I was very disturbed

I gave it 2 stars because most of the stories were interesting. But I never expected to have to read details about the torture of cats. The officer was traumatized for life. Well, so am I. I can't get it out of my head and am very upset.

These books are supposed to be lighthearted. In her acknowledgments section, she even calls it "medical comedy". I read these books to relax, not to be traumatized by a horrific scene that I'll never unsee or unhear in my mind.

Please do not write about starving dogs and tortured cats.

Now I'm afraid to read these books anymore because I really don't need to hear about how some sicko tortures cats, and certainly not in detail!

I hope these books are not veering into the direction of the worst thing a cop has ever seen.

The story of a child crushed to death under a vending machine was not medical comedy either.

How about leaving out cop's stories of "my most traumatic call", "the most horrifying thing I've ever seen", etc.

If I want to know or read about the horrors people inflict upon the innocent, I would chose that kind of book.

This book traumatized me and left me sleepless. Not at all what I wanted.

I was correcting and it was sent!!! Sorry. I LIKENED much to URBAN MYTH.. 'm sticking by it.

My rating isn't a one star because I read it all. I didn't skip to the end just to get it over.( Which I've done to that sanctimonious " dig me", Vernon Coleman. The G..P books are OK . Well, he's having a hard time holding on the last 4!!). He got no stars so see the comparison? I. Said in the rating that was sent by mistake, misspellings miss -punctuations be ignored. (Hey, we do it for you. You know that much na verdade! ( Portuguese. Millions speak it on Two major continants. Look it up.) Dreadful mistake as my points were valid. Try n cast a weathered eye, not jonduiced like. some .. right V. C.? Sorry....Anyway, Talk to a person you suspect is on medication legally or illegally, obtained. the different is negatab leboth overdose just as fast. Birth can become addicted. Both die tragically and young.

Though reader submitted, the writing style is unmistakable!

Some of these stories are heartbreaking, others are exceptionally sad, while others cause laughter; the common thread throughout is the virtuosity of the writer.
My prayers go out to all who have suffered through the untenable situations related in this book. I pray that God has assuaged the pain!
These stories are not just for our entertainment, they're also for our enlightenment.
I believe writing is be part of the healing process. By submitting their stories for possible inclusion in any of Kerry's books, the submitters have already aided in their healing.
Thank you Kerry for bringing to our attention, not only the bizarre, and the amusing, but the heartbreaking and gut wrenching stories of those who NEED to be heard! And thank you to the submitters!

Excellent book! I enjoyed every page. I follow the author, as I like her easy writing style. I am a caregiver, working on CNA training. Its eye opening what goes on in health care facilities!

Loved the entire book! I read it in one sitting. I find it fascinating what goes on in health care facilities! I was angry to read that the blood nurse was attacked! That was awful, especially how fearful she was to go to work. I'm proud of her for fighting back and forming a group! A true fighter! I was amazed by the nurse stalked by a crazy patient. We have no clue what our nurses suffer!

I didn’t like this one very much. I had to skim through it to find a few stories of interest. Most of these had bad outcomes so that is part of why I didn’t like it. This author’s original stories of her own workplace experiences were written much better with more wit and humor in some situations and compassion or whatever emotion was appropriate depending on the events. The newer series of reader submitted stories is not near as good so I don’t think I will be wasting any more money on this series. No offense to the author. I just find the reader submissions a major disappointment compared to the author’s original series.

Finished in one sitting

This book is really interesting. The stories run the gamut from hysterically funny to heart breaking to rage inducing. The brave men & women who make up the first responder see human nature at its heights and rock bottom, and they deserve our gratitude. And a pay raise.

Fortunately, I missed the first four volumes in this collection of medical emergencies. But I read this fifth one and wasn't prepared for a book composed of anonymous, short-paragraph medical essays, some of which were very, very disturbing. I give the book two stars only for the author's collection and compilation efforts.

Truth is better tan fiction!

Yes, truth is better than fiction. It is seriously crazy how people can show their true colors during stress. Such as lack of intelligence, moral's, and respect for themselves or others. Read and see the true side of people. It's a real hoot!

Another great read. It's a must.

The stories are great to read and making me laugh is a bonus. The sad stories not so much. But all in all it was a great book again. Well done Kerry.

Fast easy read

A fun look into the wonderful medical profession. Glad it included unit clerks and other non medical staff. This is only one small slice into our world.

I just don't understand why people feel they have to be famous in order to enjoy life.

Interesting short stories--often not even a page long--but this collection had too many depressing, even horrific tales; made even more upsetting because they are true.

Somewhat sad but hysterical.
I’m in the field, I’ve always said, someone’s got to write a book. You can’t make this stuff up.
