An extreme horror about a redneck family that capture and torture people who write bad reviews about their son’s literary efforts. The idea is interesting enough and the style is not bad, but this is an extreme horror that I am unable to recommend. I found myself asking the questions of whose voices were not being heard, and I felt it was the voice of the victims, and especially of the women. Not my kind of horror, but many will find it to be theirs, unfortunately.

Another wild ride from Tim Miller!

This book should certainly put anyone off leaving a negative review for any of Tim Miller's books in the future. This book had it all; lots of gore, plenty of gross-out scenarios and a truly inspired storyline which descends into chaos by the end of the book, in a style I have come to expect- and appreciate- from Tim.

I don't know what I just read.. but it was funny as fuck.

Very amusing horror story with some very graphic, over the top violence. What more do you need? Will be starting on the second book soon.

This book is off the scale it is so offensive and in bad taste - but fortunately there is enough humour throughout to compensate and remind you that it is not intended to be taken too seriously. You really do wonder how bad the torture scenes are going to get and what else can actually happen to the poor victims. A great read and highly recommended, I look forward to reading the following books in the series.

Very, very disturbing, gore, offensive horror. Don't try it if you are easily offended...

First short fiction of April Almighty series. Apart from the deeply graphic scene and sick horror I liked it. Especially the girl April. She's such a kick ass girl I don't remember when last I find a character like her...

Marty a sick sociopath horror writer published his debut novel and thought he will became rich fron sale of it. But the negative reviews put him off and he vowed to take actions against those reviewers who post negative reviews about his book. With the help of his sick and mentally ill tempered family he set off to get them. But he this time did a mistake that he will never forget if find himself alive at all. Alongside with his brother Cletus and his old aged mom they caught April with some more people bring them in their dane. April's dad happened to be a FBI agent and soon he was too begin his journey with his partner to find his missing daughter...

The next thing you would know is total chaos. Nothing to compare of the graphic scene you would read and visualise through your mind. At some point it almost make me like vomit myself but I kept myself steady and complete the tale. Trust me because of the bizarre way that April took her vengeance against them was worth the read and that is whay I liked the srory. More to read of April Almighty, no doubt...

Another great read

I greenhouse this book . As well as.all the gore and brutality it has a lovely twist to it. And I'm intrigued to see where April goes. My only thing was how April for how she did. But hard to say what I mean without giving away the atory. But I just thought it was a bit weird. But I like weird too so strange yes but I could look past it quite easily and see if actually happening. Anyway I loved the brutality and that the men got what the women did. Made a change to read it happening to both sexs. All in all a great read full of Mr Miller's great story writing and imagination.

WARNING....... DONT READ THIS IF EASILY OFFENDED
Personally it takes a lot to offend me so I enjoyed the book, there are times when you just root for the victims to escape, you read in disbelief at the antics of the family and others where it can be hard to read because of the content ..... theres Ma a sex crazy psychopathic old crone who has taught her sons Marty and Cletus to have fun with people who they bring to the torture shack, bring this together with a host of other characters with different back stories and you have a crackin read.

Marty is a budding horror writer who after he has finished and published his first novel recieves lots of negative reviews so he decides to sort out his tormentors..... and thats where his and his families fun begins.

I have read a few of Tims books I love his writing style it might not be for everyone but if you like your horror gory, sick and twisted then Tims the author for you, im really pleased there are another 3 in the series as I feel we have just skimmed the surface of Aprils character and will Marty return I look forward to finding out.

I liked the overall story, but at the risk of being tortured by inbred cannibals, I must say I found it to be lacking in development. i'd like to see more fleshing out of the characters, especially April and her father. We know she's a college student and he's an FBI agent, but that's it. Since they are the main protagonists, I'd like to know more about them. I'd also like to know more about the swamp that gave April her powers and the town that spawned it and the deranged people living there. I do recommend that readers of Ed Lee and Shane McKenzie give it a look.

Sick twisted humor!

Crazy characters and dark humor! A good combination. Just because it's extreme horror, doesn't mean it can't make you laugh! I thought the mom was a real back woods mom, with an incestuous streak, that struck me as funny in a sick way! Loved that the victim became the torturer! Have already bought the other three books!

Ah, the old "Tortured by inbred redneck cannibals" trope. That's a classic that never goes out of style, right?

Well, okay, it's a bit of a cliche and while there are plenty of entertaining examples over the years, no one has topped The Texas Chan Saw Massacre. Tim Miller isn't going to let that stop him though.

Sure it's basically the story that's been told a thousand times, but this time there is a twist! One that I can not describe without ruining the book with spoilers. So...Yeah.

The redneck cannibals are exactly as you would expect and their actions and motivations bring the "extreme" to this horror novel. The surprise comes from one of the victims, April, who finds out she has the worlds dumbest superpower. But hey, any superpower is better than no superpower, and it's time for her to figure out if it can help save her (and others) from this menace of a family.

I found the later books in this series to be better than this one. Recommended, but mostly just so you can go into future books fully up-to-date.

Ewwwww. This was a pretty hardcore novel, with a ton of very violent, disgusting and fun acts of violence and some very memorable moments.
Even though there wasn't a lot of character development, I still had to rate this five stars for the sheer entertainment value. Knowing there are three more novels in the series, I'm really hoping to learn more about April, and that the level of fun is maintained.
A few times I thought I was reading an Ed Lee book, nice job Mr. Miller.

Marty has published his debut horror novel “Tunnel of Doom” and has received some reviews he didn’t like. Marty is not your average author though. He’s part of an insane family that imprisons, tortures, and eats their victims. So, not one to let things lie, he goes on a road trip to confront the trolls with the help of his brother, Cletus.

Five reviewers are captured and brought back to the family’s torture shed. One of them, April, is the daughter of an FBI agent. Her father goes in search of her to try to get to her before it’s too late.

Tim Miller, a very prolific horror writer, is on the nose in regard to the publishing industry. Marty’s eBook is published through a dominant site called Crashbooks (Amazon). Even the review process that Herbert goes through to post his thoughts on the site is accurate. As a horror reviewer, the kidnappees were very much representative of me and I liked that. Thankfully, I have yet to receive any death threats from authors. I would bet, though, that Tim Miller has encountered people he would have wanted to respond to as Marty did. Hopefully not in quite the same way, but you get what I’m saying.

Marty’s dysfunctional family is very much a family in the Rob Zombie vein. They are hillbilly white trash and don’t care. The matriarch of the the family is especially creepy. There is even a family member called Cletus for good measure. It’s not for the easily offended as it includes gore, incest, rape, and torture. It’s exploitation horror. For those worried that it will be misogynistic, there are actually many more male sexual assaults than attacks on females. The sexual violence will make you wince for sure though.

Things head in a very bizarre direction towards the end of the book. It becomes funnier and more tongue-in-cheek than the initial tension built by the kidnapping and torture would lead you to expect. When I say bizarre, I mean it, and I can guarantee this is not something you’ve read before. The ending is highly original, if a bit out of place, based on what preceded. This could have been a very dark and uncomfortable book to read, but the switching gears of the plot turn it into a more lighthearted splatter affair. The hillbilly town they live in is called Browneye, which explains a lot.

Sure, there are a few problems with the story, such as the ease of finding the trolls, why April changed the way she did, and the telltale evidence dropped at the scene of a kidnapping for the police to find. It doesn’t take away from things though. It’s a fun story. This book is what it is – gore and sexual violence that doesn’t take itself seriously. This is the first of four books in the April Reigns series by Tim Miller and we can hope that more about April’s twist will be explained in future.

I liked the book. It was interesting, perverse and bizarre. The ending was only fair, and more characterization for April's father would have helped--when he was no longer necessary, he was almost discarded. Still, it was a good read, and I look forward to the next book in the series.

A quick read. The premise is hardly intriguing; it's the gore-fest that provides some cringe-worthy moments, adding some fresh and bloody chapters for the benefit of a reader who might be hoping that the encyclopaedia on torture-porn has already been explored from cover to cover and nothing new can emerge.
Picture these: shooting a man up the ass so that the bullet passes all the way up and out of his brain, along with a shower of shit; a girl who can raise dicks and make them cum by mere force of thought (an improvisation on Stephen King's Carrie White perhaps); eating a girl after splitting her like a goat, then dropping her head in a glass-tank full of maggots, and finally keeping the skull as souvenir or decoration for the room.

I may read Tim Miller again, not for the story, but for how much he can add to the aforementioned stuff. Horror plus humour.

Oh, and I did Google Meghan Chadeayne (the woman on the cover), as requested by the author in the beginning. Here is a great image of this stunning model, just emerged from her favorite occupation:
