روبرت ليچ کار خود را به‌عنوان روزنامه­نگار، آموزگار، مدرس دانشگاه و کارگردان آغاز کرد. سه مجلد از اشعارش در ادينبورگ و توسط انتشارات ديونوسيا منتشر و بسيار مورد استقبال قرار گرفت. او نمايش‌نامه­نويس هم هست و آثاري را براي صحنه‌ي نمايش تنظيم کرده است. وي هم‌چنين چندين کتاب درباره‌ي نظريه­ها و تاريخ تئاتر تأليف کرده است، از جمله تئاتر کارگاهي: جوآن ليتل­ود و تئاتر مدرن بريتانيايي (2006) و مطالعات تئاتر (2008). هر کسي که بخواهد در عرصه‌ي جهان شگفت نمايش کار کند، به‌عنوان نمايشنامه­نويس، کارگردان، بازيگر، نظريه­پرداز و... بايد کتاب مطالعات تئاتر را بخواند. همه‌ي وجوه گوناگون درام، تئاتر و اجرا در اين کتاب به‌خوبي واکاوي شده­اند و در پايان هر فصل منابع بسيار سودمندي براي مطالعات بيش‌تر در حوزه­هاي مورد بحث به خوانندگان معرفي شده است

Thematic chapters: performance, genres, staging, etc. Most contain historical accounts of their theme.

I read this for university. It was okay. I wish it had more specific examples from plays to help us get a better abstract idea of all the technical information.

It doesn't surprise me that this is a set text for some people on theatre/drama courses. An interesting read (and I'm someone not reading it for academic purposes) with plenty of detail. Broad as well as deep - and not too long!

Yeah, so this is one of my textbooks. But I can't do other than delve into it with gusto. It's intriguing. The beginning's like a very cursory intro to the philosophical metaphysics of theatre. <3<3<3
