A billionaire lion shifter fighting to fill the hole in his heart + a curvy reporter on an undercover assignment + an island paradise where all is not as it seems = one dangerously hot romance.
Curvy Chloe Kent worked her ass off to get a housekeeping job on Harper Island. The island is practically paradise: white beaches, blue skies, luxury facilities… and it’s all a lie. Just like her. She’s not a cleaner desperate for work; she’s a reporter, hot on the trail of the scoop of a lifetime. But what she finds on the island is beyond anything she ever imagined.
Billionaire lion shifter Mathis Delacourt has everything any man could want. But there’s something missing: an emptiness inside him that nothing can fill. He’s left his old life behind, pretending to be a down-on-his-luck bruiser. Fighting, adrenaline—it fills the hole for a while, but leaves him feeling emptier than before. When a mysterious benefactor invites him to his private fight club on a remote island, Mathis jumps at the chance to fight other shifters. Is this the challenge he’s been looking for?
Chloe and Mathis don’t find what they’re looking for on the island, but they do find each other… just in time for the trap to close.
The island’s owner lures shifters to his private resort so he can force them to fight for his entertainment. And he never lets anyone leave.
Chloe is everything Mathis was searching for, and the island’s owner knows it. Can their love survive, when it’s used as a weapon to control them?
Lion’s Betrayal is an edge-of-your-seat lion shifter romance. No cliffhangers!
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
I enjoyed this book. It’s the second in the series. It can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading them in order. There are some spoilers in this book for the first book, Claimed by the Panther. There is also an ongoing storyline that isn’t completely resolved.
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I got a review copy of this book, and no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I have bought this book because I loved it, and I own most of Zoe’s books!
The cover is another beautiful one! My favorite kind with both stunning beasts on the cover!
This is the 2nd book in the series, and it is for adults only due to the steamy content and violence! While you don’t need to read them in order, it is much better if you do! And you really do NOT want to miss either book.
Chloe has always had a soft spot for animals, and she fights for what she believes in! She is full of spirit, and I loved her! Mathis is drifting through his life, and he is not sure what he needs! There is tons of action on this paradise that is much more than it seems.
Awesome read! Zoe Chant always has the perfect mix of action, romance, and shiftery goodness that she is a go to author when I need to know I’ll love the book! Her HEAs are always perfect for me!
I highly recommend to any shifter fan who love HEA endings especially if you love Zoe’s style writing and affordability! I buy most of her books! Can’t wait to see what’s next!!!
Title: Lion's Betrayal Series: A Billionaire Lion Shifter Book 2 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: Zoe Chant Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Serial: Standalone, No Cliffhanger Genre:#PRN #LionShifter #ManyShifters My Rating: #5Stars☆☆☆☆☆ •••••••••••••• We got another Ms. Zoe's novels that's just unbelievable, how she writes book after book and every one is amazing. As I read each character is extraordinarily amazing. It's a definite must read this book. Chloe Kent is a human reporter looking for her next big break. She got a job in housekeeping on Harper's Island, but it was really weird, she couldn't put her finger on what was wrong but it sure felt that way. Then Mr. Harper and his friends came it was really different. Well everybody was drinking champagne Chloe saw something that she will never forget the rest of her life it was embedded in her mind. Mathis Delacourt aka: Matt Dell is a Billionaire Lion Shifter is basically bored with life, he has everything so what he does is go from town to town fighting, human fights. It takes Talent to fight another human and hold back your shifter strength. Then Gerald Harper offered him a a fight with other shifters on his Island that wow this was exciting of course he would go. He found out two things 1) He had to find out who belongs with that beautiful smell, he was going to find it. 2) shifters never left the island ever not alive anyway. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.
Chloe Kent is a reporter after a story which has her working at a resort on a private island. Mathis Delacourt is a billionaire lion shifter who is searching for something and winds up on the island as a fighter. The two meet and sparks fly as Mathis realizes Chloe is his mate. Then they discover the truth behind Harper Island, it's a trap for shifters. Can the two of them put a stop to everything and escape?
I really enjoyed this book which drew me in from the beginning and kept me hooked. The story was riveting and full of suspense. The book's well-written with well-rounded characters and I'm looking forward to the next book. I highly recommend this book and the series.
I admit that I was very glad to see another story with this group of friends and family. When I read Panther’s Promise a while ago, I knew it would make a great beginning to an amazing series (should it go in that direction – which it did), and one with some pretty interesting secondary characters who I’m hoping will eventually get their own stories told.
In Lion’s Betrayal we meet Mathis, a lion shifter, part of a powerful pride and a man searching for something – he calls it not following the rules, but his constant need for the punishing sport of underground fights would tell another story. When his last victory in the ring brings him to the attention of a rich shifter with his own private island, and his own shifter fight club, Mathis jumps at the chance to fight against the strength of other shifters and stop holding back as he must when he fights humans. His search for “something more” would take him to the absolute worst place in order to find the right person he’d unknowingly spent his life searching for.
Chloe was successful in infiltrating this island paradise. Sure, she’d had to twist a few facts, or lie through her teeth if you want the truth, but she made it. Now all she had to do was get proof of the illegal animal fights that went on here, get back to the mainland and expose this resort’s owner for the piece of scum he was. Only it didn’t work out quite the way she expected. Yes, there were illegal fights going on… but these weren’t dog fights.
We’re given one of the slimiest, most vile villains I’ve read about in quite a while in this story. And I have to admit to laughing out loud when his shifter animal is revealed. Actually, it kinda fits but not in the way you might imagine. There are several important secondary characters in Lion’s Betrayal, ones that I really hope that we get a chance to find happy ever afters for at some point in the future. Mathis and Chloe make a believable couple, facing some incredible circumstances in order to even survive. Their story is tense, intriguing and draws you in to their fight for freedom. I really enjoyed getting to see some familiar characters again in their story. It’s small touches that keep me involved in a series, and Ms Chant does them so well.
Lion’s Betrayal is a story where you don’t “have” to have read the first, Panther’s Promise, in the series to enjoy or even follow the events happening in this story – but it’s a great story, so don’t miss it. I’d recommend this story and this series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader who enjoys a good story, likable characters and unexpected twists.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Mathis Delacourt, a billionaire Lion shifter who was looking for something that was missing in his life. He left everything behind now he was fighting in fight clubs to fill the void which didn't work. When he was offered an opportunity by a mysterious benefactor he took it.
Chloe Kent, a beautiful, curvy and smart journalist who went undercover as a housekeeper on Harper Island when she received a call from an anonymous caller about some shady activities on the island. She found out just what the scope really was. Shifters existed and they were fighting against each other as entertainment for rich folks.
Mathis and Chloe were drawn to each other without even before they met. Their essences were like a sweet aroma neither one of them could resist. When they finally met it was explosive. They were mates but Chloe was hiding a huge secret from Mathis.
When the benefactor Gerald Harper found out about the lovebirds let's just say that the man showed his true colors. He used their bond against them in such way that it nearly killed them. Mathis in the ring and Chloe on the sideline watching helplessly.
"Enough Was Enough"
Chloe had enough of Mathis sacrificing himself for her while their captor enjoyed their sorrows. She was going to do whatever it took to get her, Mathis and the rest of the prisoners off that island come what may.
And she did with the help of her mate and friend Thandie even Julian helped when time came to stop Harper's atrocities. Even after they were rescued Mathis walked away from Chloe which left them both miserably unhappy. Until Mathis' loved ones stepped in and gave the lovebirds a push.
It was great to see Mathis finally in the same room with his long time friends especially Grant (PANTHER'S PROMISE).
LION'S BETRAYAL is the second book in Zoe Chant's SHIFTER SUSPENSE series. It was. Another incredible job by Zoe Chant. Two thumbs up and a recommendation for you all to grab this book a try.

I loved this opposites attract, billionaire shifter romance with a side of a danger and kidnapping. The story was filled with all the emotions, the connections and the love with a wonderful mix of sweet moments, spice, real life issues, and secrets. Mathis is a billionaire lion shifter who feels restless in his life. To combat that he pretends to be a down in his luck fighter for the rush. Chloe is a newspaper reporter who believes there are illegal dog fights on a private island. So she finagles a job as a staff member to get the scoop. Mathis is recruited to fight other shifters instead of humans in the island. When they meet Mathis knows instantly she’s his mate but leaving the island is not as easy as it was to get on it. To get to their HEA, there will need to be truth telling and baggage unpacking while trying to not day at the hands of the psychopath who owns the island. This well written story included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series.
Mathis Delacourt has a hole in his heart he doesn't know how to fill. He goes into the fight game under the n same of Matt Dell, winning every fight against humans while holding back. He is invited to an island to participate in a private fight club for shifters. Chloe is a journalist who finds out about the island, but she thinks it is an illegal dog fighting club and manages to get herself hired as a housekeeper staff member. She meets Matt and they are instantly drawn together. He knows she is his mate. The owner of the island--which is all shifters--refuses to let them go, saying Matt is his top attraction as a lion. Matt has told him Chloe is his mate, not knowing what a monster the owner is. He uses Chloe's safety to control Matt. He never allows anyone to leave the island. He Pitts shifter after shifter against Matt, nearly killing him. The story of how Chloe finds a way to call for help makes for a great story with a surprise end for the owner. Entrancing read. I highly recommend.
This story was amazing, it was definitely a page turner in the best way ever. The immediate chemistry between Mathis and Chloe was amazing. I loved their lighthearted banter when they first met and the fact that nothing mattered when they were together except them. Great story Zoe!! Every relationship has its ups and downs and they tend to make you feel any and every emotion possible. That is what you got from this story, the love that they felt for each other, the protectiveness that they felt for each other and they way that they continued to fight for each other until the end. The only thing I would have changed was the ending for Harper, instead of him standing trial for his crimes, I would have stepped on him and ended his miserable life just because I could.
He's hiding out as Matt Dell doing private fights looking for whatever he was missing. He's recruited to fight other shifters on a private island. She has been hired for housekeeping on this same island hoping to expose people exploiting animal with dog fights and the like. They meet on the island and discover the truth, they are mates and like everyone else they are prisoners and they are used against each other. They confront Harper, the owner and they in turn are made aware of true identities. He feel he can't trust her but the mate bond makes him protective. With him causing a distraction, using a dragon scale to become invisible she sneaks into the owner's tower and manages to get a message out for help. Help arrives, everyone is rescued and Harper is arrested.
Mathis is a lion shifter and looking for a reason to live. He has been trying to figure out what he is living for. He doesn't want to be just another businessman. In walks Chloe. She is a reporter and looking for a story. Meeting Mathis is such a surprise especially since she doesn't know anything about shifters. When she sees him as a lion and then he transform back to a human she is in awe. Mathis knew he had finally met his mate. While they were being held captive they had to constantly defend themselves from a very evil shifter. Luckily Chloe was quick to figure out how to get them rescued. Finding out that Chloe is a shifter caught them both by surprise. Love truly did conquer all the bad things they were forced to cope with. On to book three...
I liked this instalment in the Shifter Suspense series slightly more than Book 1 - I think because Mathis wasn't quite as at war with his animal self as Grant had been, and perhaps also because Chloe gave me at least slightly more of a sense of competence than Irina did for the majority of each book.
It also felt like an interesting meeting place between several of the other Zoes' worlds and books: if you took the setting of Elva Birch's Shifting Sands shifter resort series, the worldbuilding of Murphy Lawless's (AKA Virtue Shifter Zoe) Gladiator Shifters series, and the slightly darker, more graphically violent vibe of Lauren Esker's Shifter Agents series... what you'd end up with is this book.
I'm also delighted to discover that this Zoe, who's apparently a new one to me, is a fellow Kiwi. So I'm really looking forward to reading Book 3 now.
Zoe Chant’s novel Lion’s Betrayal, second in the Shifter Suspense series, tells a very interesting tale and does so in a well written and thoroughly enjoyable way. Filled with action, passion and quick dialogue, we follow Mathis and Chloe as they work together to escape a brutal Shifter fight ring that is housed on a tropical paradise. All the elements of a paranormal romance are there, and the HEA will leave you smiling and satisfied. While it can be read as a standalone with a gratifying conclusion, it leaves the door open for more adventures to come. There are so many interesting characters that have a story to tell, and I look forward to Ms. Chant’s next book in this wonderful series. I received a free copy from the author, without any obligation to review.
When Chloe Kent became determined to uncover a story of animal abuse, she gets more than she bargained for. Mathis Delacourt is searching for the one thing that makes him whole, but end up getting him self stuck in an impossible situation. Instant attraction leads the two together, but their love will be tested. Will they escape the island? Will Mathis and Chloe be able to overcome what they witness and allow love in?
Another Zoe Chant hit! Loved meeting Mathis after reading about him a little in the first book of the series. Chloe came off as smart and a bit of a dare devil, but pulled her own weight. Mathis was definitely protective even if I wanted to shake him for assuming that he could just let her go. Great book and definitely recommend to shifter lovers!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is an unusual book because of the plot of the restless lion shifter going to an island to fight other shifters. What he believes and what is reality a chilling because he is a prisoner and is fighting for survival.
Mathis meets his mate, Chloe, who is a reporter. Unfortunately, she is held as a hostage so Mathis will fight and trying not to escape. How would they solve this problem and their bid for freedom?
As characters goes they are conflicted as mates and suspicious of motives just trying to survive in this fast paced and entertaining book. Vivid protrayal of the characters and scenarios makes this book and entertaining and delightful read. Highly recommended.
In this book a very bad person, Harper, is enticing shifters to come to his island and work for him. Unfortunately, once they are there, they can't leave. When he recruits Mathis Delatore to become one of his fighters, Matt agrees. Mat is lost, searching for something to fill a void in his life. He's been traveling across country joining underground fight clubs in an effort to ease this void. But he's tired of fighting humans, and of holding back. So when Harper approaches him to join his fight club and fight shifters, he's happy to accept. While on the island Matt meets Chloe and realizes she's his fated mate. Suddenly, the void id filled and Matt doesn't want to fight anymore. But the very bad man has other ideas.
I read and reviewed already last year.. but goodreads & amazon says I did not so again..
Good story Matthias in fighting ring. He discovers it’s not what he thinks wants to leave but finds his mate, and she is in super big trouble so he continues to fight in the ring. Only to save Chloe ? Can they and all the other shifters who were tricked by HARPER to fight for other’s sick pleasures, finally escape? Will Julian help them even though he is only doing Harper’s bidding to protect his d e a d, sister’s eggs.
pretty sure I also read the next in series Julian’s sister’s eggs end up in the hands of 3 human women and ..hatch! But can they find their way to JULIAN their only and last living relative before it’s too late?
It's not often I give Zoe Chant less than three stars, because for the most part though the stories are a light and fun read, there is a sense of fairness in all the dealings. And I'll be honest there is not a lot of contrived unnecessary drama in her stories. Unfortunately this one just got on my last nerve, there was so much back and forth nonsense that went on I came close to just giving up on the story entirely. There just was nothing that went on between these two that a good old fashioned come to Jesus would not have sorted out, sadly it went on until the end, and even then it was suddenly Sex and HEA.
I loved this story. The book contains a lion, a human, a wolf, coyotes, a polar bear, a dragon and a hummingbird. The characters are full of life and strong willed. The story line is very different. Mathis Delacourt is a lion shifter and alpha of his pride. He is called Matt in the underground fighting ring. Gerald Harper talks him into fighting on his private island. Chloe is an intern on a local paper who goes undercover to bring his illegal dog fighting ring to light. Well little do either of them know the truth about Gerald Harper and what goes on at his island. I give this story 5 stars. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy without pressure to do so".
Zoe deserves 10 stars! This book has everything; dramas, terror, love, validation, and a little humor. Matthis is a billionaire who calls himself Matt who likes to fight in the gym. Chloe is a freelance journalist who is investigating an illegal dog fight on a private island owned by a man named Gerard (a vicious shifter). He recruits fighters, puts them under a one year contract, and when they want to leave, he threatens them, so they stay. Of course, there is much more to this story. I recommend this book to all readers so you can find out what happens next. Enjoy!
This story was good but extremely intense for someone who falls into their books, like me. The main premise is unsettling, more so than other Zoe Chant stories that I have read, including the Shifting Sands series. That being said, the characters are great and you really want to see most of them succeed.
The pace is fast, the tone is dark and edgy and the storyline is both action and character oriented. The characters are what makes this story so good. You just like them so much that you have to see what happens next, even if the events are upsetting. See what you think.
After a long and gruelling process she did it! Chloe, a human reporter, made it to the Harper island. After a anonymous tip, she believes animals are been forced to fight. Determine to expose the truth, she infiltrates the island and gets a cleaning job. And what she finds is much bigger than animal cruelty. Mathis is a Billionaire lion shifter that left luxury and prestige behind trying to fill the void inside him as a underground fighter. He is tricked into a island he didn't know, nobody ever leaves alive. It was a ok read for me. It had a good plot but slow paced.
ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest! Chloe was a reporter looking for next sensational story on Harper's Island. Mathis was just looking for the next adventure. He was getting bored. When presented with an opportunity of a lifetime, he could not resist. But there is always a catch, and Mathis found it too late. The ones going into the island will never leave. Now Chloe + Mathis will have to team up to escape the island + help he other shifters trapped on the island. Action, drama, romance, etc. Loved the ending.
Could not put the boik down so good. I saw this book at tbe end of Panthers promise and had to see if it was as great at it was. Loved both books thank you! I would recommend the book to all who like to feel what they are feeling great book
Great read and the one before it was great also loved them both and want more. It made me feel what they were feeling and just had to know what was going. Hope there is going to be another book I want to know what is going on if his twin gets better. If the other shifters who were hurt get help. Just want more!
Mathis was searching for his mate. After several failed girlfriends weren’t her he set out to be an underground fighter to ease his misery. Chloe was an investigative reporter, looking for evidence of illegal dog fighting on an island off Florida. Mathis signed up to fight there, when he saw Chloe he recognized her as his mate. The evil man who ran things exploited this and they had to figure out how to escape his clutches. Good story with lots of anxiety induced moments.
Saved by the Billionaire Lion Shifter (Shifter Suspense Book 2) by Zoe Chant. Billionaire lion shifter Mathis is trapped on an island fighting in lion form every night. Cloe is a reporter investigating an animal fighting ring. When they meet they immediately drawn to each other, they are mates but the owner of the island uses this against them and holds Cloe hostage against Mathis fighting more. All the workers on the island are being held against their will and are shifters. They eventually revolt and everyone is rescued.
I liked a lot of things about this book. Can I just say that like what kind of shifter Harper turned into. So funny. I'm glad justice was served. Now to get more books to learn about what happened to the shifters that were brought up like Mathis twin and Thandi and anyone else that would help complete the questions that were left unanswered. Good story
I was surprised by the twist this book took. It really was completely different from what I expected. The island part of the story lasted a little longer than necessary, but I really did enjoy the intrigue. The love story was strained, but that was necessary considering the circumstances. I really loved the two main characters. And this author has become one of my favorites.
I enjoyed the first one more, this one dragged a bit, we knew they’d get away, the constant fights were just same same until the explosive climax, although that may be partially as I expected them to get away halfway through and then meet up with Grant and Irina (the couple from the first story), and other friends, or Francine to come to the rescue.
Still I’m enjoying the series enough to move onto the third.
