Sofia has tried everything to cure Hector's hiccup problem. But nothing seems to work! If they can't cure Hector's hiccups, they won't be able to go to the movies with Abuela. Spanish words are mixed into the text, and the art is bright and fresh. This early chapter book from the Sofia Martinez series includes a Spanish glossary, discussion questions, and writing prompts.

This funny book consists of 3 very short chapters, about two siblings and their Abuela’s mission to rid themselves of hiccups before they go see a movie. This book sits right on the edge of transitional and Easy Reader, but is the latest an Easy Reader can go, nearly a transitional read, partly because there is less than 23 pages with words. The font is very big and clear, and there is much white space on the page. It also includes several words in Spanish, discussion questions, and writing prompts in the back matter.
A library book that the little man brought home. I love that he picked a bilingual book on his own. I'm still looking for good bilingual books to read with him - this one is fun, but just has a few vocab words/phrases.
I have never heard of someone using a lemon to get rid of hiccups. I loved how they solved the problem by staying home and making their own popcorn. It brought me back to my childhood when I used to make popcorn with my grandparents. I have to try eating popcorn the next time I have hiccups.
Hector cannot stop his hiccups. This is s funny family story that kids will enjoy. Lots of Spanish words you can learn along the way. Highly recommended for Grades 1-3.
