Never Alone: Exchanging Your Tender Hurts for Gods Healing Grace

Rate this book
From the time we’re little girls, we long to be loved and accepted—from the playground to the lunchroom to the places where we live and work as grown women. We do our best to prove we’re lovable and to avoid being left all alone. But the truth is that it’s impossible to walk through life without experiencing the pain and loneliness of betrayal, shame, guilt, loss, judgment, or rejection. These wounds can shape our views of ourselves, others, and God and even make us question if we are worthy of love and acceptance. Whether old or new, our heartache can convince us there’s no one who understands or cares. Yet Jesus tells us a different story.

In Never Alone , author Tiffany Bluhm offers hope and encouragement that as our plans, hearts, and lives change, God does not miss a beat. What we may have mistaken for absence was only our mind questioning his goodness and grace. Tiffany reveals the depth and healing power of Jesus’ unconditional love for us and how we will never escape his love. We do not possess that kind of power. If we are willing, we can discover the sacred truth that we indeed, are never alone .

Accept your invitation to find healing for your deepest hurts as we experience the unfailing companionship of Jesus—the Rescuer and Redeemer of broken lives and wounded hearts.
A companion six-week Bible study Never Six Encounters with Jesus to Heal Your Deepest Hurts is also available for those who would like to dig deeper into the book's topic. Study components, each available separately, include a Participant Workbook with five days of lessons per week, Leader Guide, DVD with six 20-25 minute sessions (with closed captioning), and boxed Leader Kit containing one of each component.

Never Alone is a book in which any woman can find something encouraging. No matter where you are in life, you have probably experienced hurt, betrayal, guilt, loss, etc. and this book has a chapter for 12 different emotions: shame, doubt, isolation, undesirability, lovelessness, exposure, jealousy, faithlessness, bitterness, hopelessness, loss, fear.

As I was reading, I found myself highlighting several quotes. Some of the things said were exactly what I needed to hear and made me think of things in a different light.

All in all, a very good read. I recommend it and can see myself rereading sections again.

*I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book for my honest opinion. I was not required to post a positive review, only my honest opinion -- which I've done. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

"Never Alone" is part memoir, part spiritual growth book. In each chapter, the author told a part of her life story--from being adopted from an orphanage in India, growing up, and dating to getting married and going through the long process of adopting a son from Uganda. She dealt with feelings of rejection, shame, and loneliness due to her adoption and different appearance from her family. She has also wrestled with envy, worry, anger, bitterness, and grief. So she talked about those issues, bringing in the stories of women in the Bible and related Scriptures. She talked about the lessons she's learned and how God has been at work healing her heart and giving her strength. It's an encouraging book that leads you toward trusting God and drawing on His strength and love in difficult times.

I received an ARC review copy of this book from the publisher through Amazon Vine.

I chose to review Tiffany Bluhm’s book based on the title. Loneliness has long been my companion as a child of divorce, and since her book is about healing from past hurts, I sought inspiration from her story.

Tiffany shares the many hurts in her life in a quiet, poignant voice. In India, she was given up for adoption as a newborn and never knew her birth parents. She speaks about feeling outcast due to her different skin color and nationality in America, though she loved her adoptive family. She also struggled with crushing rejection from her fiancé and endured months of pain working with him after they broke up. After she married, she and her husband faced deep heartache when an international adoption failed. She has walked through a world of hurt, and I understand how that feels.

I found inspiration, hope, and deep faith in these digital pages dotted with virtual tears. This is not a light, breezy read. But when you come from a background of hurt, you need the affirmation that you are not alone in your pain. Even though I have spent years in counseling, I still seek stories of other imperfect women who struggle with past hurts. I need to read stories of faith to keep hanging on in my own struggles, and Tiffany’s book is a peaceful nook of inspiration.

Tiffany walks through the all-too-familiar hurts like fear, shame, rejection and doubt and shows how God offers healing for all of them. She admits to living as a work-in-progress, and never pretends that she has a magic wand of faith to wave over her hurts. Yet her faith is strong because God showed her how much He cared about her feelings and her story. Because her writing is vulnerable and tender, hurting women will be drawn to her authenticity.

On Tiffany’s website, you can download the first chapter of the book for free and also watch the first video in her accompanying six-week Bible study series for Never Alone. She’s even offering free Skype sessions for group studies–what a neat perk!

If you know imperfect women who struggle with childhood trauma or past hurts, please tell them to read Never Alone. They will find the healing God offers and be drawn into a deeper study of His Word.

Netgalley generously provided me a free copy of this book.

Never Alone Book
This book is the story of the author, Tiffany Bluhm, and how throughout her life she has found that she never was alone. The author tell the story about how she was an orphan in India and then when she was adopted and brought to the United States. Along the book she goes back to that moment in her life and how God manifested in her life as she struggled with shame, doubt, isolation, undesirability, lovelessness, fear, and loss. To me the book is a reflection on how in our darkest and deepest moments of our life's the love of God is always with us if we choose to fix our eyes upon Him.
The quotes on this book that make an impact in my reading are the following:
"Only by the love of Jesus do we exchange our shackles of shame for the robe of freedom"

"If we dare to trust Him, even though we don't fully understand how He operates in our lives, the distressed pieces of our soul can be resurrected into something beautiful"

"Shame never lets us rest. It reminds us how we feel about ourselves when we'd rather forget. It's a Mark of something deeper"

"Shame keeps us from closing the gap of what we think life should be like to who we really are"

"We need a Helper, a Savior, to re wrote our story and renew our thinking"

"The broken pieces of our lives will follow us until we surrender them to someone who can fix them"

"Surrender and healing is a choice"

"God won't be offended by an investigation of our doubts"

"Vulnerability is the offering of our raw and fragile emotions without any idea of how another will respond"

"Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It is the source of hope, empathy, accountability and authenticity"

The book also tells the story about her adoption journey for her oldest son, Jericho. It is so well explained and it almost make you feel that you are in Uganda with them. This book is a true reminder that we are never alone, that God is with you, on your corner, cheering you on, lifting you up, giving you strength and hope in the darkest times of your live.

Every woman needs to read this book!

The author Tiffany Bluhm speaks to the most burning issues facing women -- shame, disappointment, isolation, fear, and many more.

I get it... I am a man reviewing a book for women...keep reading and it will make sense.

Until I got married, I had limited contact with women, and so the learning curve was steep. I learned that women - like men - have their own share of spiritual struggles. When I first came in contact with the author, I knew I needed to get this book into my wife's hands. I try to seize every opportunity to invest in her continued personal growth. Reading this book myself helped me to see into my wife's world more.

Here is what my wife said after reading "Never Alone":

'In my darkest hour, I was asking myself, "is there anyone who understands my pain and struggles?" At that moment I felt connected to Tiffany [the author] and I could have hope in Christ again. Her story reveals God's healing for our souls and His plan for redemption.'

I really appreciate the way the author breaks down concepts. She doesn't just throw around words like "shame" and take for granted that the reader understands the word's meaning; she unpacks each concept and explains how it *feels* to experience that struggle, especially through personal stories. Then, at the end of every chapter, she points the reader to Jesus.

Also, without giving away too many details, her life story is a page-turner in itself!

This is a book for any woman who wants to come out of hiding and meet the healer of her soul.

An Important Book For Hope and Healing

When facing difficult situations or hurtful times, that's when I feel most alone. Tiffany Bluhm has written a wonderful and helpful book titled, Never Alone: Exchanging Your Tender Hurts For God's Healing Grace. This is an important book for finding hope and encouragement. This book has twelve chapters including shame, doubt, bitterness, hopelessness, loss, fear and more. Each chapter includes personal stories from Tiffany Bluhm; examples from the Bible, scriptures and practical application.
Never Alone is for any woman who feels that she is struggling with painful feelings and is suffering alone. Tiffany Bluhm reminds readers that they are never alone. God is always there, walking with us. He cares and knows the deep pain we are feeling, and He is ready to heal our broken souls.
I very highly recommend Never Alone: Exchanging Your Tender Hurts For God's Healing Grace. There is also a companion bible study available: Never Alone: 6 Encounters with Jesus to Heal Your Deepest Hurts. Both books will help readers draw closer to God and receive healing, freedom and peace.

*I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from the publisher. The opinion stated is my own. I have not been compensated in any way.*

This was a great read. The story drew me in and held me captive all the way to the final page. I have cousins who were adopted from India and I feel like I gained so much insight into the unique challenges international adoptees face as they acclimate to life in America.

I just loved the authenticity and vulnerability on every page of this book. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to read it, and I've already passed my copy along to one of my cousins. I really think this book could be a life-changing read for her, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has a child or loved one who is an international adoptee!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for review purposes.

Oh my word, what a story, what a life! While Tiffany has overcome significant challenges in her life, what struck me most, is her passion for Jesus and for others. There is a streak of tenacity that spurs her forward, and fuels her gusto, and she has a way of understanding the unique lives that women lead, and that no matter what our context, we can struggle to say yes to the question: Am I lovable? She offers practical wisdom for fully releasing pain, and fully entering grace.

This is the book you give to friends of every walk of life, who will understand the power of a story, and learn tangibly that they are NOT ALONE.

Never Alone is a book that soothes the soul. In her book, Tiffany talks about the different hurts that she has experienced in her life. She ties her personal experiences in with biblical truths about how God loves us unconditionally. Reading through Tiffany’s book was like sitting across from a close friend in a coffee shop offering encouragement. I definitely recommend this book for those who are dealing with various hurts and are looking for encouragement.

I give very few books 5 stars - they are reserved only for very special books that have spoken deeply into my life in a personal way. This is such a book. So encouraging and inspiring. Tiffany writes from the heart and every Christian woman will benefit from being reminded of the healing and hope that is available to us.

Never Alone -Tiffany Bluhm

This is a bible study I chose from NetGalley. This is the first book by the author, Tiffany Bluhm, although she has written for magazines and maintains a blog. Her heart is to help women come to learn their value and purpose in God.

In this book each chapter covers a different issue, although they are often related to each other. The topics are shame, doubt, isolation, undesirability, lovelessness, exposure, jealousy, faithlessness, bitterness, hoplessness, loss and
Fear.

She uses her own experiences to put each issue in context, then balances this with explaining how she found her way through in prayer and how God is there to meet each need backed by bible verses.

She emphasises throughout that we are never alone, and uses biblical passages of hurting women:- the woman caught in adultery, the hemorrhaging woman, the woman at the well, the woman who anointed Him, Mary Magdalene, and Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Her book reveals a compassionate saviour who loves us where we are at and offers hope, second chances, and love.

Tiffany challenges to bring our wounds to the healer and embrace the love and grace which will set them free.

I found this book compelling and challenging, and would recommend it greatly.

When I saw the blurb for Tiffany Bluhm's newly released book, Never Alone: Exchanging Your Tender Hurts for God’s Healing Grace, I wanted to read it right away:

Oh, this spoke to me, so I asked Abingdon Press for a review copy.

As an Indian orphan adopted by an American family, Bluhm knows the sting of rejection that comes from being different. A broken relationship and a failed adoption reinforced her feeling that she was not quite enough. The books is about how Bluhm was able to find hope and redemption through Christ and how she is able to use her life to encourage others. She understands suffering, but also knows that, "For those of us who have been abandoned, abused, or unprotected from the enemies in our stories, we must never doubt the ability of Jesus to protect us."

She walks though the rejecting pitfalls that often challenge our faith: shame, doubt, isolation, undesirability, exposure, jealousy, faithlessness, bitterness, hopelessness, loss, and fear. She interweaves passages from the gospel with wisdom from Brené Brown, Sarah Bessey, Christine Caine, Lysa TerKeurst, C.S. Lewis, Shauna Niequist, and Stasi Eldredge, among others, to show how we are never alone. Bluhm is not afraid to be vulnerable, documenting how she overcame her own fears and doubts.

She writes of how God's character consistently offers us good things: "this isn't a promise of prosperity, but one of protection, one in which our God is active to protect our soul as we listen to the call of the Good Shepherd." She writes of the redemptive power of Christ to replace losses with something equally good and -- I promise - this book will make you cry.

Bluhm shows how by pushing through our deepest fears and embracing the love of God, we can live the life God intended: "Others will see the greatness and glory or Jesus because you rose up to be the beloved and fierce woman God forged you to be." She reminds us that "this whole kit and caboodle is a love story" and a promise that we will never be left alone.

If you are in a season of seeking, this is a beautiful and encouraging book.
