The Sponsor was a financial superman. But he wanted to become an actual superman, Homo Superior in his own lifetime. And he had developed a miraculous viral injection that would allow him to do just that: to give the human mind, body and spirit a little evolutionary nudge that would release the Superbeing in Everyperson.

But before the Sponsor committed himself to becoming Adam of the new world, he wished first to behold Eve. So the Sponsor’s representative went out in search of a suitable companion, and found one Jean Sandra Norwich—a woman convinced she was a “gene sandwich,” a “slice of meat imprisoned between the genes of her mother Josie and the genes of her daughter Alison.” The Sponsor offered to free her from the shackles of her DNA. Jean accepted. And what followed was almost beyond human comprehension.

In a brilliant reworking of Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Ian Watson has created a devastatingly witty story of human potential realized—and the pitfalls and pratfalls that accompany it.

An entertaining, witty little piece chock full of imagination and innovative concepts... considering it was written in 1984 I can't believe I haven't come across it before. A highly enjoyable read!
