He's a killer. She's raising his son. He's coming back for both of them. June's used to living life in survival mode. With no family support or husband, it's been up to her to raise her ten-year-old son on her own. It's not easy, especially when she has a living reminder of the only man she ever loved. But that asshole walked out on her without warning, leaving her brokenhearted and pregnant.
When he reappears back into her life a decade later, she's no longer a naive young girl, and not ready to throw herself into his arms-no matter how tempting that might be.
Killian's biggest regret in life is falling in love on the job. It wasn't supposed to happen, and the only honorable thing he could do was walk away. Everything he'd told June was a lie, and she deserved better than a hitman for hire.
When they cross paths years later, he's blindsided when he discovers he's a father. It's a challenge to earn June's love and trust after the lies and disappearing act, but he's not letting her go this time. He'll prove to her in more ways than one that she's his woman.
When an unknown threat puts a hit out on Killian's new family, the Irish assassin is ready to send them all to hell in the name of love.
Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound. She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.
Sometimes, doing what you THINK is the right thing can be a double edged sword.
Killian is a hired killer. 10 years ago, while on a job, he met and fell in love with June. Thinking he was doing the right thing, he leaves her to get on with someone better, not knowing that she was pregnant with his child.
I actually ended up liking Killian. Yes, he was a hired killer. However, he takes out the lowest of the low, bad guys and low lifes. I alway get ticked when one main character makes decisions for "what's best" for the other main character. He didn't give June a chance to accept him for who he was. He took her choices away from her.
June was a resilient woman. Left by the only man she ever loved, she raised their son for 10 years on her own. She was kicked out of school, her family turned their back on her and she worked tirelessly to support her and her son. All the while, missing the love of her life. She waited every day for years for him to come back(he "tried" to move on a couple months after he left). I was glad that she didn't give in immediately when he came back.
-no ow/om drama -neither had sex with others but Killian did try to move on and kissed another woman. He felt he was betraying June though. If he loved her so much, he should not have abandoned her. June went on some dates but nothing came of it. -violence and some of sexual nature (not to the heroine but other women) -pushing away by hero (years ago) and heroine was resistant for a brief time present day -some steam -no epilogue which was very disappointing
I enjoyed this book. It had main characters who were strong but soft when they needed to be. It's been a long time since I actually read a book by SC that I enjoyed but this book shows why I have never totally given up on her. Loved little Killian wish there were more scenes with him and the hero as he was such a character.
The story plays out beautifully. From hate to tolerating to like to love and then the danger kicks in. Romance, suspense and talented authors makes this a five-star combination! Charming Asshole is completely charming and a total must read!
God the Plots in this series suck monkey balls. There is no real rhyme or reason for the conflicts in these books and this book added a villain in at the very end that was unbelievable.
As for the couple, I love secret baby plots and I wish there had been more revolving around that but it was revealed and resolved almost instantly. I did like this couple but “Boss” is annoying. How does all your staff want to kill you in every book but you’re the good guy!?! Yeah okay. Smh.
Anyway, I didn’t hate, I actually wanted to like this book more but the side plot drove me nuts and helped to lose my attention.
So another one bites the dust... What is Boss going to do? He's running out of killers, lol
Killian was Boss's right hand man. But unlike Boss he has some morals, that include no killing of women and children. So after what happened with Bain and his women, Killian decided to take some time off. And he went back to the place that he was last happy, and also to check up on the women he loves. Thinking that June is happy and has a better life than what he gave her, he finds out it is anything but that.
June met a guy and fell in love and thought that he dreams would come true, but then he leaves and she finds out that she is pregnant. She loses her scholarship, her parents kick her out and now she's living in a one bedroom flat with her son, Killian's son and working two jobs to make ends meat.
So when Killian suddenly appears back in her life and bringing danger with him, how can she trust a man who lied to her and just disappeared. It's not just herself she has to look after she has a son now that depends on her, a son who is a bit wild and needs his mother.
I enjoyed this story, June was an okay character for me, thought after everything she has been through she would be more badass, a stronger person. But I didn't get that impression. I loved Killian though, bad ass and doing whatever it takes to protect his family.
I'm hoping the next one is Boss's story. Cause somehow I want to hate him, but then he does something and just makes you think that maybe he's not so bad after all.
Another member of Killer of Kings is down. Brought to his knees by mere girl. Again. I don't think Boss is happy about it. Or maybe he is a little jealous of his men's luck? Who knows. With each book I'm more and more curious about Boss. I want to take him apart piece by piece and to see what's it's hiding inside this deadly man.
But lets talk about our main couple. June was a little disappointment. I understand she isn't used to Killians lifestyle, but I think common sense should have lead her to use her brain more, then just panic and react without thinking. I don't say that June wasn't tough girl, she just wasn't tough for Killer of Kings lifestyle. Fighting off dicks isn't the same as fighting off monsters.
I loved Killian. Yes, he made bad choice then years ago, but I guess his view of himself, his insecurieties got the best of him. But the way Killian was when he meet his girl again and found out about his son.... That was priceless. The one thing I was unhappy about was, that he was too hothead sometimes. He needed to be colder, like a killer, instead of a man in love.
I'm looking forward for next book, hoping this time it will be Boss time. But I don't think I should hold my breath. That man still wants to keep his secrets to himself.
I liked the second chance & secret child aspects of the story (those are my favorite tropes) but I didn't really feel the chemistry between the main characters. It wasn't passionate or all-consuming, which was what I was craving... especially after them being apart for ten years.
If the other books in this series go on sale (like this one did) then I might check them out but as of now, I'm not chomping at the bit to do so.
Side Note: The word "cream" should NEVER be used to describe a heroine's lady bits in sexual situations. It's NOT sexy. It makes the heroine sound like she has a yeast infection. #MyTwoCents
Stressed from working with Kings and the last job Killian is taking a break he needs to clear his head about what went down, only place he had felt calm and happy was a town where he met a girl who stole his heart... he broke her's by lying and leaving her. It's been 10 years and he still thinks about her, going to the spot he first met her he runs into a young boy who was causing trouble going to help the kid he finds out he is his kid.
June is a hard working mother working job after job to have a somewhat good life for her son when she sees the man who tore her heart enter her home. Killian isnt leaving he wants his family and he shall work, fight and kill to keep his family safe.. now that someone put a hit on his kid and girl.. he shall move earth to keep them safe
Instalove Sassy stubborn hard headed curvy woman Stubborn hard rough charming guy Push/pull Drama No cheating Sex Background chara Hea
This is different ... each book introduces a new character that happens to be the lead storyline in the next book. Like Bain was introduced in Viper's book and Killian was introduced in Bain's book. Therefore, Shadow must be the next book cause both he and Chains were mentioned in Killian's book.
Having said that... Ten years! Why couldn't it of been only 7 or 8 years, i understand that his son had to be old enough to get into trouble but so much time was wasted. And It's a good thing that he finally went back, especially since both of them were celibate during their time apart! LOL. I was unbelievably pleased to hear this from him and it made her taking him back so much easier for me too.
And no epilogue, it would've been nice to know if they found a place and how things were once settled down. Hopefully, we'll read more about them in Shadow's storyline in the next book ;)
Charming Asshole is oh so good. Sam and Stacey have a winning combo. They make you love their characters and the storyline will keep you interested from beginning to end. I hope they give us more from the Killer of Kings , Shadow intrigued me and so did Manic from Dead Angels. Killian is the male lead and June is his leading lady. If you read the first two books then Bain, Scarlet, Viper and of course Boss make multiple appearances. Loving this series. I want more of Killer of Kings!!!! Happy Reading!!📚📚📚
My Kindle. I really like same crescent books. This one was about a man whose lost out on ten years of his sons life and away from the woman he’s always loved. I think when your in a relationship you should just be you and let me be me and make my own decisions and navigate my own path you can’t be both of us.
These two writers have blended just the right balance of love, anger, life and death. You love the needed vulnerable traits in our hero and strength in our heroine. Each story have the same outcome but each story is different and enjoyable on it's own.
This story will take the reader for quite a ride. This is the third book in the series Killer of Kings but can be read as a standalone. It is exciting for the reader to see how Killian and June reconnect after ten long years a part from each other. The twists and surprises make for an interesting novel.
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their story, this was a non-stop cover to cover read for me,I couldn't put it down. Hit men, motorcycles, kidnapping, violence, action, intrigue, romance, what more could you want in a great book. This is one book you won't want to miss, I can't wait to read the next installment of this series.
Out of all the books in this series, this one of Killian and June's book is my absolute favourite. Can't wait for the next book and wondered if it will be Shadow's book next or will it finally be BOSS'S next hmmm, guess will just have to wait and see.
Killer of Kings . This third book of the series has lovers reunited, guns for hire , an MC needing to be straightened out, and one psycho. What more do you need for an amazing read ? This book has it all !! And I loved every page of it !!
This is the book I have been waiting for Killian he may be a killer but he has a heart. He has always had a soft spot for women and children but is that his downfall?
I loved this book Killian is such a major charmer.
This was my first book by these authors and it sounded very promising and right up my alley. The beginning was kinda bumpy though and I wasn’t sure if this was because Charming Asshole was the third book in this series - albeit a standalone - or if it just really started off confusing.
Neither Killian nor June felt authentic and I had a major problem how after over 10 years everything happened so fast between them and their so-called feelings were stronger than ever. I didn’t understand how Killian could have loved her so much and lived so close but never went to see her. Speaking of living close by, I was annoyed how often he drove to and fro the town June lived in within what felt like only minutes.
The entire story was too fast paced and happened all in just a few days. It didn’t flow nicely as it felt more like jumping from one moment to the other and only longer scenes at one place/time were better written.
I know this was fiction and not everything’s realistic but I think there should be a certain realistic level held regardless of it. Especially since Killian felt more like a supernatural because he could kill an entire bar full of armed bikers without a scratch. And why would big bad bikers need help from anyone outside of their club? I thought they have their own rules and handle everything their way?!
The story was a constant back and forth with Killian driving around and repetitive conversations between him and June. After all those years, she gave in too quickly and her poor living was over thanks to his fortune. I was no fan of June, her gullibility and the constant change of her attitude annoyed the hell out of me. She promised to stay by his side even though she just found out he’d lied to her all those years ago, never came for her in the past years and killed people for a living. Then she suddenly wasn’t ok with it and wanted him to stay with her and not do his job even though he wanted to save her. And later on she was unnecessarily reckless and went into the lion’s den. I might have been ok with all of that when she’d been with him for a few years and they’d been older but I wouldn’t come running to my first crush from ten years ago, of whom I know nothing about.
June and Killian seemed untouchable and this was as unreal as it could get, although the second he was blinded by light, he was chained to the wall. How did he survive the last 10 years as a killer when he was this careless?
The tip of the iceberg though was how they handled June’s son. He had to stay with strangers for days while she could have easily been with him. How could a mother raise her son alone for ten years and suddenly put him in hands of dangerous strangers who kill people and not be concerned?!
I was only skimming the sex scenes but not because they were bad, they just felt thrown into the story at random and I just didn't feel it. There doesn't always need to be sex involved and in this case, where the characters had so much do deal with and to sort out, it just felt off, also because I didn't see any emotional connection between the characters.
Anyway, I didn’t want to rant about the bad stuff but just explain why I rated this book with two stars. So please bear in mind that this is just my personal opinion.
On a positive note, the authors accomplished to build up suspense which made it easier for me to finish the story. There was a lot of potential in this story which sadly wasn’t maxed out.
I have not read any of the previous books in the series but this can be read as a standalone. Killian is a hitman who returns to the scene of a previous hit only to find that the woman he fell in love with there (and lied to about his identity) had gotten pregnant and he now has a 10 year old son. June works lowly jobs to support herself and (also named Killian) her rebellious son. With very little groveling for ten years of hardship, June falls for Killian (Sr.) all over again so a threat to her life is added in for tension and story progression. Meh.
This should be renamed "Hitman Lite". Killian works for an Organization of hitmen led by a man named "The Boss" (slight snicker). But don't worry, he only kills people who are low life's and really deserve it. After all he has STANDARDS. No women or children hits and no underage prostitutes either. If your going to give your hero a background with a hard edge then turn around and polish his moral standards to make him appear better then what's the point? Just give him a different job already. Even the MC president was taking the club "straight". June had a slight case of TSTL at several points but thankfully was kept from really acting on it. Killian (Sr.) didn't really interact much with Killian (Jr.) so no guarantee he'd be the extra special father implied. I guess I found this one to be so preposterous that it yanked you out of the story too much. It's like those billionaire books where they can't find a date. I kept thinking "yeah right" too much. Ymmv.
June is a good mother. She has been taking care of her son for 10yrs. Even though he reminders her of the love of her life, she is always there for him. She certainly didn’t expect to see “him” again. Killian did what he thought was right. He was a hitman and that was no life for June. When he see her a decade later he is floored to not only see her more beautiful than before but that he has a son. He will make it up to June even if he has to beg her. Boss isn’t going to be too happy about that. What is happening to the Killer of Kings men? Each are all falling one by one over a woman. Isn’t love grand? Killian has a lot of sucking up to do with June. He hurt her bad. When things start to look up that is when it crashes down. Kilian’s past hit is causing a problem. This story is so sweet when it starts out. Two soul lost now found again. But there is always someone that has to mess it up. You can never be sure with Boss. He always seems to have a cold streak. June is a good mother and did her best with her boy. Now that her love has returned they just need to work out the lying he did. And her having to accept what he really does. Hot and heavy as always with a touch of dark and bloodshed. We have another player in the mix, Shadow. Looking forward to reading his story.
Ten years hasn't diminished the love between June and Killian. When he left her he thought it was best for her. What he discovers is that June has a son who is his and he never should of left. Can Killian make it up to June and their son? Can he keep them safe and be the family they should of been years ago?
I mistakenly read the fourth book before this one, but both were Fantastic. Killian came back to June and took care of the problems that had been going on. Learned a lesson from Boss about how the past can come back and bite you. This series is well worth reading, I recommend it highly.
