This is a really great novel. It is Propper Seton's debut novel, and it is based on a pair of half sisters that grow up apart on the east coast. The structure really works: It's broken up in three phases--when the half sisters are 10, 25, and 40 years old. The novel tracks these phases in life in a really intelligent manner. The half sisters' personalities are retained and Propper Seton poignantly encapsulates the terrible and wonderful experience of being a woman. This novel takes place in the '50s, '60s and '70s. It's a great book. Most women will relate to it.
Someone or something comes along and strikes a chord so that you remember a book you loved in the past. I don't remember the story so much as I recall loving the book, and being totally taken with all of her titles which I read in rapt delight.
Enjoyed reading this, particularly as an English professor, all the literary allusions slipped in. I found the conclusion a bit too enigmatic, but that may just be the result of wanting closure when under stress. My problem. Interesting characters and insights into marriage and women’s struggles.
