These 5 Aussie authors have each written a short story that is set in Australia at Christmas. They were all very good and two of them, Alissa and Fiona are new for me readers – so will certainly look up some of their novels.

A Very Country Christmas is a collection of romance books by great Australian Authors. The books titles that are included are

The readers of A Very Country Christmas will continue to follow Drew and Freya to see what happens.

The readers of Christmas at Remarkable Bay will continue to follow Mara and George to see what happens.

I loved reading this collection of beautiful Christmas stories by Alissa Callen, Fiona Greene, Rachael Johns, Juliet Madison and Victoria Purman. I like the way Alissa Callen, Fiona Greene, Rachael Johns, Juliet Madison and Victoria Purman portrayed their characters and entwine them thought the stories contain in this book. To me, A Very Country Christmas highlights the importance of not taken people at face value. I love the way Fiona Greens combine the stories that are contained this book. While reading A Very Country Christmas, I could not help laughing, and other times I had a little cry.

The readers of A Very County Christmas will learn about living in rural communities. Also, the readers of A Very County Christmas will realise the importance and the benefits of giving someone a little bit of kindness.

I recommend this book

A Very Country Christmas is a sweet little selection of Christmas treats from some talented Australian authors. Looking at the authors included I knew that I had to have this book, I may think it’s way too early for Christmas cheer but I couldn’t miss out.

Point to note going in, not all of these stories are brand new but possibly the first time they’ve been in print so still a little special.

I’m not sure if I want to review each story individually because it will make for a very long review, so maybe I will do mini reviews. Each story is a small town romance set in the Christmas season; our leads are damaged and definitely not looking for love and that’s about where the similarities end.

Under Christmas Stars by Alissa Callen is a brand new story set in the rural region of Woodlea and Reedy Creek. I was distracted for the first few chapters because the setting seemed familiar, and then I realised this is the same region as The Long Paddock and some of the same characters.

Freya George is a city girl who has taken on the teaching position at Reedy Creek school where she has fallen for the students, and the tiny town. A mishap with a truck sees her have to leave her accommodation for a while and is taken in by Drew Macgregor, a single farmer married to the family farm.

Woodlea and it’s residents has had a pretty big couple of years and could do with a happy holiday season, Freya loves the holidays and is determined to make it a memorable Christmas for everyone around her.

This is a sweet story of resilience and learning to give yourself a break. You can’t always go it alone and sometimes you just need to take a chance. It’s a story of small towns banding together to get through.

The story has great flow and pacing with just enough information on the characters to satisfy in a story of this length. I was interested and invested and would be interested to see if we get a glimpse of these characters again in Callen’s upcoming release The Red Dirt Road.

Home For Christmas by Fiona Greene is a story that is getting it’s first taste of print, and is the first work I have read by Fiona Greene. I love the premise, it’s a little bit quirky and was very well written. Greene covers a lot of ground in a story that comes in at a little over 100 pages, alright it’s 124 (ish) but it spans over 12 months. This seems like a lot in a short page count but Greene tackles it well and left me feeling quite satisfied with the story.

Layla Parsons comes from a military family and this is her first Christmas on her own; deciding which traditions to keep, which to adjust and which to allow to peter out. One tradition she kept was to send a Christmas gift to an Australian serviceman serving overseas, she changed it up a little and left contact details for the family business Bonsai Christmas, something her father never did.

Sergeant Tate McAuliffe wasn’t expecting a parcel at Christmas and he certainly wasn’t expecting to unwrap gifts that were impersonal but such a perfect match for him. The gift touched him and he felt compelled to send a thank you, sparking the beginning of an email conversation neither knew they were missing.

The Kissing Season by Rachael Johns is a story that I read and reviewed when it was first released back in 2013 so if you want to read my complete review I have linked it here.

Hannah Elliott is the only daughter, she’s also the only Elliott who wanted to expand horizons and get out of the small beachside town she grew up in. Her brothers remained in town; entering the family furniture business, finding life partners and settling down. Hannah travelled the world and has just returned with secrets bigger than the failed Vegas marriage. She is determined to start a new life; sedate, celibate and respectable but she wasn’t expecting to run into Matteo Della Bosca.

This is quite a sweet little romance that is focused as much on family as it is on romance. There is also a follow up from this story about the Elliott family called The Next Season which is available digitally.

12 Daves of Christmas by Juliet Madison is quirky and amusing with quite a different premise, and a completely new take on the 12 Days of Christmas song – which I ended up singing as I read each new line.

I don’t want to say too much because this one is sweet and funny, and could easily be spoiled.

Abby Solomon is a terminally single romance author who discovered her love of the genre through her grandmother, who has recently passed away. The story opens with Abby trying to meet her latest deadline, for which she is extremely behind, when a delivery of her grandmother’s romance collection arrives.

Deadline be damned, Abby sets off on a quest to find a very particular Dave and on her list are 12 Daves, all to be met starting from December the 1st. Will one of the Dave’s be the right one?

I laughed out loud in this one and it was a great read; light and fun but still with a serious side. Loved it and this is the first time the story has been available in print.

Christmas at Remarkable Bay by Victoria Purman is a brand new story set in the fictional South Australian beachside town of Remarkable Bay, the setting for The Three Miss Allens. The two stories are completely separate but there are a couple of cameo appearances by characters from The Three Miss Allens.

Mara is a teacher taking some time out over Christmas in Remarkable Bay, trying to avoid a burn out due to concern for a student.

George is a police officer house sitting for his partner, unused to a Christmas on his own but determined to do all he can for his partner.

A booking mix-up for Christmas lunch sees the two thrown together for an awkward lunch; and then in the way of small towns they run into one another regularly.

Christmas at Remarkable Bay is about two people who are totally invested in their jobs and sometimes maybe care a little too much. The story sees them work together to help a troubled teen and bring the magic of Christmas to all of them.

This was a fun collection of short romance stories. I was looking for Australian Christmas stories to read this year as it can be difficult to relate to snow storms and winter coats when you have grown up having summer time Christmas. My least favourite story was The Kissing Season. I enjoyed Christmas At Remarkable Bay because the female lead was a teacher and there are surprisingly few teachers in romance novels. However, none of these stories are pushing me to read the authors' other work, but it was a fun read especially if you are a summer Christmas person!

This collection of heart-warming Australian stories is full of the joys of the season and guaranteed to brighten your Christmas.

I first must admit that I am a fan of Rachael Johns, and I had to read this book because she has a story in it. The other four authors were new to me, I had not heard of any of the prior to this book. I must say that I really enjoyed their stories as well. I have now found four more Aussie authors to follow and read.

These five stories will get you in the spirit for Christmas. I love reading Christmas stories, as it is such a wonderful time of year.

I recommend that if you are going to put any Christmas themed books on your to be read list, then add this one, for some light, sweet romantic reads that won’t disappoint you.

Being that there are five fantastic stories in this one book you get five times the fun.

Under Christmas Stars – Alissa Callen

This story was a sweet romance, that had you wanting the happily ever after. Freya loves Christmas and wants nothing more than to make up for last year’s disaster. Freya meets cattleman Drew Macgregor, and that is where the fun begins. The plot is well written and it draws you in. Will Freya get the Christmas she wants?

I love the idea of Australian country properties and Christmas. And what a fantastic idea Freya had for the Woodlea Community. The spirit of Christmas shines bright in this story.

Home For Christmas – Fiona Greene

Sergeant Tate McAuliffe receives a care package for Christmas while stationed in Afghanistan. The package is sent from Layla Preston who runs a Christmas tree farm, in Australia, she is continuing her family’s tradition of sending a care package. Will Tate get to thank Layla for the care package?

I loved the story line and the characters and you could easily relate to them.

This story pulls at the heart strings and reminds you that there are service men and women that aren’t home at Christmas and miss out being with their families. This story shows the true meaning of Christmas. It is an unforgettable story.

The Kissing Season – Rachael Johns

Hannah Elliot has returned home to her family and is working in the family Emporium business. Hannah is keeping a secret; will she get through Christmas without anyone finding out? Matteo Della Bosca walks into the Emporium and Hannah couldn’t stop gawking at this impressive specimen of a man. But she has sworn off men. Will Hannah be able to stay away from him and any other man? Hannah just want to get through to the new year.

Rachael has once again written a book that I couldn’t put down, luckily this one was shorter than the rest. I know this story was written back in 2013 but it is one of Rachael’s stories that I had not read. I enjoyed this was a sweet, fun romantic read.

12 Daves Of Christmas – Juliet Madison

Oh, how I enjoyed this story and it was even made more fun with a ghost in the story. Following Abby Solomon on a road trip to find the right Dave, with her ghost of a grandmother tagging along. She visits 12 Dave’s on her trip and the funny thing was as soon as I read the title of this book, the song the Twelve Days of Christmas came into my head, and thanks to this wonderful story I could not get it out.

The plot of this story is enjoyable and you don’t want it to end. It is a heart-warming story of love, past, present and future.

Christmas At Remarkable Bay – Victoria Purman

Mara decides to spend Christmas away from home this year, she has booked into a holiday home in Remarkable Bay. George a Police Officer is staying in the Bay also, he is house and pet sitting for this partner. Mara and George both decide to head to the local pub for Christmas Lunch. Both have booked a table for one, and that’s where the fun of this story begins. The Bay is small and they constantly run into each other. Mara has a problem over the holiday break, will George help or hinder the problem?

Another story that had me wishing that Christmas was already here.

Absolutely wonderful!!!! I am so delighted that I received this fabulous collection courtesy of Beauty and Lace. It is truly inspiring. Five Australian Women Authors with mini novels, all relating to Christmas and all love stories but none soppy, add up to a fabulous book that is a perfect Christmas present. I loved every story and was amazed how different they were but all inspiring. It's a long time since I've enjoyed any book as much and I have many that have been excellent. Only one author was familiar to me, Rachael Johns and I've put some of the other authors on my wish list because I enjoyed their contribution so much. This would be a perfect gift for someone special who loves books. It is truly inspiring.

Like many anthologies, the stories in this book are a mixed bag. For me, a 5 star, a 4 star, two 3s and a dnf.

Five stars to Juliet Madison's Twelve Daves of Christmas.
This story was fun with an eccentric grandmother ghost, and a love story that made me cry.

Four stars to Victoria Purman's Christmas at Remarkable Bay.
A tough story of how two loners, a teacher and policeman, save a teenage girl from disaster.

The DNF, in case anyone cares, was for a casual joke about drink driving. I spent several years working as part of a road crew, and have seen the disaster of drink driving first hand.
