Textbook for my COMM 260 News Writing Class that I took during my spring semester of my junior year of college, 2022. Solid text, more explanations/examples then information but was reliable to study from for tests.

What you get out of this all depends on how your professor uses this book, therefore I didn’t rate it.

I read this back in 1989 when I was toying with the idea of writing for a living. It was a decent basic writing book with an emphasis on getting noticed and writing to be memorable. I would recommend this as a beginner's journalism book.

Its a textbook, and for a textbook really not so bad. For a 100 level class, I think it provided a good deal of detail and a decent overview of the subject, journalism.

There were some nice sidebar hints, tips and tricks, and all that. The only thing lacking was a bit more depth to the discussion of AP Style, but I imagine the authors assumed you would receive that part of the discussion in class.

I purchased a separate book to help with the AP style sides of things - it turned out to be the one recommended in the text, so that was rather nice.

Not a bad read if you are interested in learning more about the art of being a journalist.

I had this book for a news writing class and though I think it could have condensed its ideas more, it was ultimately helpful and made it easy to understand how to write for news media. I didn't read every chapter but I read the bulk of it and if you're looking for something to aid in understanding and organizing news reports, this book combined with the most updated version of the Associate Press Stylebook will be just the ticket.

Great textbook for my journalism class. Excellent examples. To the point. Easy to read. (And doesn't use fragments like I do; I promise .). The accompanying workbook is also quite good, though a bit dense.

What didn't I know already? A good starting point/foundation, but not a bible.
