For most of his life, Clint Gresham, like many if not most of us, experience the world through the lens of outcomes: academics. Behavior. Sports victories. Career. Relationships. Material success. The underlying message? When the outcomes are good, you were good. When outcomes are bad, you were bad. Becoming unfolds a grouping an inspirational reality check, reminding us all at the point of life is not the destination, but the journey. Each of us is in the process of becoming who God designed us to be well the journey can be painful, it is also necessary-A process that must be fully embraced if we were to experience wholeness of salt. I fixing your heart on gods process, the outcomes take care of themselves. Step back. Breathe. Stay in the moment. And take a long-term approach. Your ups and downs are a beautiful story God is telling through you. We are all becoming… Something incredible.
An inspiring book for sure. Clint shared transformational, emotional, and Godly stories all connected back to the Word. I learned a lot about how to overcome fear, gain confidence/courage in myself and the Lord, and love others selflessly. The last chapter “Coda”, (super clever play on words seeing that this is defined as being the concluding passage of a musical piece), reminded me how fragile our lives our and how to recognize each day as being a gift and opportunity from God. Becoming is a beautiful word and way to live!
“Don’t buy the lie that just because you are around other people you are doing life with them. Community that makes you whole doesn’t happen by itself. It’s a constant fight to stay vulnerable, unoffended, and humble.” (p. 239)
As a Seahawks fan, I bought this years ago when he was speaking locally. This was on my to read list, and I finally got around to it. I am okay with not finishing books and moving on, except my yearly to be read lists. This was on that, otherwise I might have moved on. His bigger points are good- like do the work to heal from trauma, connecting with people is really important, etc. Then some of the things, were a bit rough or maybe others could have been explained better. The parts were he shared about his experience with the Seahawks was cool.
Loved this book. Clint shares so transparently of his struggles with identity and all that he tried to fill that hole in our souls. I especially loved how he differentiates between loving God and serving Him, and actually accepting our identity.
This book is a must for everyone who is really wanting to deal with identifying what keeps you stuck and from becoming, thus the title, everything you can be in life. Clint writes to a new generation of readers without leaving out older people who already walk in a lot of this wisdom. Thanks Clint. So many experiences for such a young man.
I was honestly blown away at how hooked on this book I was. I heard Clint on a podcast and decided to give the book a shot. I had low expectations, but this is honestly a book I will keep in my collection and reread regularly. He really connected to me. His stories were powerful and lessons so relevant to the inner battles we all face. Thanks Clint!
I really tried to give this book a chance but it was so repetitive I couldn’t bother finishing it. If I have to hear about self worth and valuing myself again I might kill myself. This book is too long and drawn out I found myself skimming through for good parts where there were none.
I didn't even realize that the author was a former NFL player until I started reading. The title is what got my attention. I could relate to many of his stories, which was surprising to me since I'm not a huge sports fan. The questions at the end of each chapter got me thinking about my journey.
Read this book on my 3rd deployment. It was a great read after my long days. I purchased the wristband to remind me that we are never finished with becoming.
