Jessica had never imagined such a place as Star City existed, let alone that something like a Bastion protected it. With Serenity behind them, the crew of Sabrina now faces a vast nebula, rife with dark matter, stretching along the inner edge of the Perseus Arm. Going around will take years, but there is rumor of a path through. A path known only to those who live at Star City But Star City is interdicted, its outer reaches patrolled by Orion ships. Though Misha knows of a hidden FTL route that can get a ship close enough to the city, using it assumes the city’s inhabitants are friendly. Jessica and Trevor risk the pathway, travelling to Star City where they find something far more amazing than they ever expected—only to learn they must make a sacrifice unlike any they had ever dreamed.
Malorie Cooper likes to think of herself as a dreamer and a wanderer, yet her feet are firmly grounded in reality.
A ‘maker’ from an early age, Malorie loves to craft things, from furniture, to cosplay costumes, to a well-spun tale, she can’t help but to create new things every day.
A rare extrovert writer, she loves to hang out with readers and people in general. If you meet her at a convention, she just might be rocking a catsuit, cosplaying one of her own characters, or maybe her latest favorite from Overwatch!
She shares her home with a brilliant young girl, her wonderful wife (who also writes), a cat that chirps at birds, a never-ending list of things she would like to build, and ideas…
Author M. D. Cooper continues the voyages of Sabrina and her crew with the Last Bastion of Star City. The crew of Sabrina are split up again as they are trying to get passed the Stillwarter nebula but they run into the Orian Guard. Jessica and her husband take the Sexy and go ahead to Star City a place that we find out is a Dyson Sphere and that is home to trillions of people who are on their way to ascending. (What Daniel Jackson and the ancients did in StarGate SG-1 and Atlantis) While at the Dyson Sphere they meet the custodian of the Sphere who maintains not only the Sphere but the people who live in the Dream (an alternate reality sim) Where Jessica and her AI Iris and her husband give birth to the next generation of Bastions who will forever protect Star City. This is a great book and I highly recommend it. Also I recommend if you're interested in stories featuring a Dyson Sphere there is the novelization of the ST:TNG episode Relics and the ST:TNG book Dyson Sphere. I am looking forward to the last two books in this season and starting season 2.
I've got to give it to Cooper, he really does have a grand imagination. I really hope he returns to Star City in a later book or series, and that we see Jessica and Trevor's children again...this was a very awesome and grand concept. The novella is short, but it had a poignancy to it which I really enjoyed.
[note, you probably won't enjoy or appreciate this book if you haven't at least read the rest in the Perseus Gate series]
I really enjoy this story - it provides a bit more information around possible pathways humanity can take in the Aeon14 universe, which I always find quite fascinating. Star City is quite an impressive and fascinating place, and still retains a bit of mystery about it. After the previous story being very much a Jessica and Sera show, good to have the whole crew involved in this one, with a few surprises / unexpected turns for the characters along the way.
Jessica and Trevor go to Star City to learn the only safe path through the dark layer. They find an AI but no people. The cities are all deserted. Deserted, that is, except for the world full of Dreamers who must be protected. But how? Great plot, wonderful characters, action, romance and more!
It just keeps getting better and better In this one the tech gets better, the story takes massive leaps forward in terms of possibilities and in reader interest. Its very hard to talk about this Aeon 14 story without doing spoilers but all i can say is you won't be disappointed at all. Oh and i hope the author hurrys up with the next one as this will have you on the edge of your seat.
So much happens in this one! Jess, Trevor and Iris have 16 children in The Dream to become Bastions to protect Star City. Can’t wait for the next one!!
So amazing, right up until Cooper laid some mathematics on me. Come on bro, I hated remedial math in college and it still gives me the shivers. Was that supposed to be a horror story? Thanks again.
Well thought out book with intriguing, developed characters. M.D. Cooper is a great story teller and he has me hooked. I keep coming back for more of his stories.
Great characters and a wondrous new world - built around a star! Still fighting the bad guys, but this episode has an unusual twist to it. Very enjoyable read!
