'Yoga can feel elitist but the book does not alienate. Partly because of its gentle humour, and partly because the language does not assume any knowledge of terms or sequences. It's straightforward and to the point. And the scenery beats a sterile yoga studio.' - Evening Standard
'Apparently there is something about the recipe of beards, kilts, butts and the Scottish highlands that just works.' - Finlay Wilson
'Yoga and kilts in a Perthshire forest has proved to be just what the world was waiting for.' - BBC

Aside from the pictures which were well worth meditating upon, snicker snicker, it is a well-thought-out instructive book and yoga positions and practice. With a little humor injected here and there it Gave it more of a relaxed atmosphere, which is what yoga is all about. Insight to its inception and how his Kilted Yoga videos on YouTube are now viral and vital. There is also an aside where he admits to the freezing temperatures while filming said video and how when they did the handstand at the end, his hands actually went numb. And oh what a shot that is. Kilted, you know.
Giving a bit of background as to his own journey, he tells us how he began as a healing to his own pains from surgery. Wilson readily admits that he was not the best student and had been kicked out more than once for swearing when he couldn’t get a pose right. His own yoga studio, Heart Space Yoga & Bodyworks, in Dundee, holds special for people with disabilities, but not exclusively to.
Sectioned off into sequences, we start with Connection onto to Sanctuary Meditation, Serenity, Sensory Meditation, Strength, Breathing Meditation, Power, and Walking Meditation. Each has its own series of poses, durations of and breathing techniques during.
The gorgeous photos are taken at the Hermitage in Perthshire, Scotland. Cliff side, rocky terrain and forest settings give credence to the meditative examples set forth.
It’s very easy to follow, once you quit looking at the pictures, snicker snicker, and the poses shown are very easy to do, as he has primarily focused on beginners or those with a hindrance.
I couldn’t help but laugh out loud on one of his boat poses where he gives the option to “Grab your sit bones and feel the lower buttock muscles engaging. I think that I will refer to them as such from here on out.
First impression: a very sexy man performing yoga poses in a wild Scottish setting. Sometimes with very sexy Scottish man friend.
Second impression: sexy man, kilt, scenery gimmick aside, the work is genuine. The yoga is authentic and interesting little bits of Finlay’s story comes through.
Third impression: yes, it’s a cheeky concept wrapped in eye candy , but it’s authentic storytelling too. Now I want my own kilt 💆♀️
I love that there is an emphasis on options for injury and other immobility issues. That it is such a big part of Finlay's practice and outreach is amazing. This makes a big difference for people like me who have had major trauma/injuries or just repeated smaller irritations to main base points (ankles, shoulders, etc.)
Lots of photos of geezers in kilts doing yoga. If that makes you excited then this is the book for you. It doesn't really help in learning yoga, but some may find it useful for something. Go read while eating haggis maybe?
Less provocative than the title might suggest, the poses presented in this little photo book have been thoughtfully sequenced and, together with brief personal reflections by the author and teacher, make the practice very accessible.
