I love how the author discusses a painting, then breaks it down into specific focus areas to discuss painting techniques and color mixing theory. Very helpful to a novice oil painter.

My review was written and then lost!

So let me just say that this is a superb and brilliantly illuminating book, a granular formal and technical study of the whole of 19th century painting (not only Impressionism) — as it studies the aims and techniques of the pre-Impressionists as well as that of the Neo-Impressionists.

I give it multiple extra stars.
