Sweet. Reads like a biography of a folk artist, not just a tale, except that there are no names, no geography. I do like that the main character is Black, and that the woman is the successful entrepreneur.
Despite the title, this has very little to do with chickens. This is about a Black boy born on a chicken farm who loves drawing and painting chickens. He grows up into a man who loves to draw and paint chickens. He thinks he can make his fortune in the Big City selling chicken paintings. He fails, but falls in love with the woman who turns his life around.
Um ... what?
I guess this is a commentary on the art market, and how women are much smarter than men. Other than that ... your guess is as good as mine. The book description here at Goodreads claims this book is autobiographical, but I haven't found any popular artist of chickens who is a Black woman.
And there really isn't anything about chickens in it.
The full-color illustrations are much better than the text. In fact, forget the text. Just look at the artwork and make up your own story.
