Did she want Marsh's help to snare Calvin?

At home Shona had never questioned her relationship with her flautist fiance. But now, working as Calvin's piano accompanist aboard the cruise ship Sea Wanderer, Shona's mind filled with doubts.

It was handsome Marsh Faraday who had made her see that Calvin was taking her for granted. And that she was letting him!

Calvin seemed as much a part of her life as music, but Shona felt this cruise would entirely change her life.

I'm confused. The weirdest thing was how the h was figuratively battered, ridiculed in public, cuckolded, insulted, walked upon, and a mincemeat made of her self confidence by her fiancé and she literally only officially broke up with him in the last 20 pages.

Never fear, all sorts of groping and kissing and fondling was still done by the H cz the fiancé told her they should keep their engagement on the down low (so he could sleep with another crewmember, but that's another story lol)

The one thing that I can't forgive is the 3 times the H was physically abusive to her. 1. When she tripped and he deliberately didn't hold her so her head hit the radio and telephone and gave her a nasty bump 2. He pushed her unawares into a swimming pool then spanked her very painfully in full public, so much that she started crying 3. He punched her in the shoulder another time, to trip her into the pool again.

The only semi saving grace was that the H clearly couldn't keep his hands off her.

This book was published in 1982 and for that time he is a fairly passionate H. They don’t go all the way, but they do make out a bit.

The h is engaged to another man and the great mystery of this book is why she stays engaged to the OM.

Even after making out with the H, even after knowing the OM cheats on her, even after being mistreated by the OM, she doesn’t break off her relationship. Very strange.

Anyway, the H is in lust and in love and he takes every opportunity he gets to kiss her. He can’t get enough of kissing her. So romantic.

Her job as pianist on a Mediterranean cruise should have been as much fun as work for Shona - if only she hadn't had to cope not only with the jealousy of her partner and fiance Calvin, but the unreasonable sarcasm and dislike of Marsh Faraday. And she was only trying to do her best!
