Cindy Dees started flying airplanes while sitting in her dad’s lap at the age of three and got a pilot’s license before she got a driver’s license. At age fifteen, she dropped out of high school and left the horse farm in Michigan where she grew up to attend the University of Michigan.

After earning a degree in Russian and East European studies, she joined the U.S. Air Force and became the youngest female pilot in the history of the Air Force. She flew supersonic jets, VIP airlift and the “C-5” Galaxy, the world’s largest airplane. She also worked part-time gathering intelligence. During her military career, she traveled to forty countries on five continents, was detained by the KGB and East German secret police, she got shot at, flew in the first Gulf War, met her husband and amassed a lifetime’s worth of war stories.

Her hobbies include professional Middle Eastern dancing, Japanese gardening and medieval reenacting. She started writing on a one-dollar bet with her mother and was thrilled to win that bet with the publication of her first book in 2001.

Her Mission With A SEAL is a fantastic romantic suspense by Cindy Dees. Ms. Dees has delivered a well-written book and furnished it with a stellar cast of characters. Nissa is a CIA agent, assigned to work with a SEAL team to find an Russian operative. Cole heads the SEAL team. Nissa and Cole's story is packed with drama, humor, steamy sexy bits, action and suspense. I loved this story from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from Cindy Dees soon. Her Mission With A SEAL is book 3 of the Code: Warrior SEALs Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Her Mission with a SEAL is the third novel in Cindy Dees' Code: Warrior SEALs series, but it's the first novel in the series I've read, as well as being the first novel I've read by this author, and while at first glance, it appeared to have everything I look for in a romantic suspense novel, a strong, handsome, sexy and brave hero, a smart and brave heroine, an elusive and murderous villain, lots of action and suspense, as I was reading it, while the writing was good, I never became invested in either of the main characters or their story, and for that reason, it only gets a 3-star rating from this reader.

As heroes go, it was hard to find fault with SEAL team leader, Cole Perriman, who is nearing the 20-year mark as a Navy SEAL. He's focused, strong, brave, and leading a mission to take down Markus Petrov, a shadow villain who's prided himself on never being seen or captured, with one exception, CIA psychological operations analyst, Nissa Beck, and to say that this novel opens like gangbusters is putting it mildly. She and 3 Navy SEALs are being tossed around in dark, stormy seas in an inflatable, motorized dinghy, as a hurricane is rapidly approaching. They are trying to capture the elusive Markus Petrov, who is believed to be fleeing the country aboard the container ship, Anna Belle, but when they find and board her, the ship is about to capsize and is devoid of all personnel. They barely manage to flee the top heavy freighter and escape with their lives, and are next trying to beat the hurricane back to land, somewhere along the gulf coast before the hurricane makes landfall. Exciting? Absolutely. Yet as tension-filled as the opening of this novel is, the characters just didn't come alive for me.

The rest of the novel follows the standard pattern for romantic suspense novels--dangerous situation following even more dangerous situation, the attraction between the two main characters, sexy down times between Nissa (is there now a movement to create unusual and odd character names that I'm unaware of?) as the team attempts to gain intelligence on and track down the evil villain, a good balance of sex vs. suspense and danger, but, to reiterate, I never became invested in these characters or in the outcome of their mission, knowing that there'd be an HEA ending eventually.

I think that the missing ingredient in this novel was the complete lack of a backstory on Cole and Nissa. Having a strong penchant for and addiction to novels about Navy SEALs, I could understand why Cole wanted to be one, but how did Nissa end up in the CIA? What made her talents so special that she was either recruited or applied for her job? What was her childhood like? What sort of upbringing did she have? Her self-esteem throughout the novel is rather low, but why? Finally, although she and Cole are obviously sexually attracted to one another, I also never really felt a deep emotional connection between the two of them.

All in all, Her Mission with a SEAL was an okay and well-written novel, but the issues I've already mentioned, and the fact that it was a series romance, limiting its page count, kept it from being a great one.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Terrific book that dropped me into the middle of intense action and didn't let up until the end. Nissa is a CIA analyst working with a SEAL team to locate and capture an elusive Russian operative. She is not a trained field agent and spends much of the book scared spitless, but she does what needs to be done.

Cole is the SEAL team leader, code name Frosty for his ability to bury his emotions and get the job done. He's been a SEAL for many years and is a few months from retirement. Unfortunately, Nissa proves to be an unexpected distraction to his determination to capture Petrov.

The book opens with Nissa and the team attempting to board a ship that Petrov is reportedly escaping on in the middle of a hurricane. But when they get aboard, they discover the ship is deserted and about to capsize in the storm seas. They barely managed to escape and had to beat the hurricane back to land if they wanted to survive. I was glued to the pages as they struggled to find shelter and then wait out the storm.

The intense suspense of the story continued as Nissa, Cole, and the rest of the team continued their search for Petrov. Nissa's brilliant detective work brings them closer to their goal and puts a target on her back. The danger intensifies when Nissa uses herself to bait a trap, and an unexpected twist puts them all at risk. The final puzzle piece led to a confrontation that had me glued to the pages until it was done. Cole and the team were great, but Nissa was amazing.

I enjoyed watching Cole and Nissa's relationship develop. The sparks between them are immediate and explosive, which freaks out Cole. He's never had this kind of reaction to a woman, and he doesn't know how to deal with it. Colw is especially worried because he feels it is a distraction that he can't afford if he is going to keep Nissa safe. He also has trouble believing anyone could love him knowing what he's done. Nissa's reaction to his insecurities and vulnerability was fantastic, and I loved seeing the effect on Cole. Cole's big moment at the end was lovely.

I really enjoyed this book. The action starts on the first page and never lets up! Nissa Beck has come to New Orleans in the middle of a hurricane on assignment to help a team of SEALs locate a Russian spy named Petrov, whom they believe is hiding in the city. Nissa needs to be there because she is one of the few people on the planet who knows what this guy looks like, even though she’s only got twenty year old photos of him.

Cole Perriman is a few months from retiring as a SEAL. He’s known as Frosty to his teammates for his ability to hide his emotions and get the job done. He doesn’t need a distraction like Nissa Beck in his life, but he is unable to fight his attraction to her. There’s something about the analyst that gets to him. His teammates all like her; even though she’s not trained like them and shows her fear, she does what she has to anyway.

Their first attempt to capture Petrov fails, and Nissa vows to stay with the SEALs until they succeed in capturing him. In the meantime, Petrov manages to put a hit out on Nissa after he discovers his attempt to fake his own death failed and she knows what he looks like, and Cole and Nissa manage to locate previously unknown ties he has to the city.

They’re getting desperate to catch Petrov, as they believe he’s about to flee the country, so Nissa does something crazy – she offers herself as bait by hacking into one of Petrov’s overseas accounts and stealing thirty million dollars. She’s betting it will draw Petrov out, and she’s right. Cole is terrified of losing Nissa, and he’s initially opposed to her plan but is eventually persuaded to dangle her in front of Petrov.

You can guess what happens – they eventually track him down, but not before one of them is hurt. While at the hospital, Cole asks Nissa a question she can’t say no to, and they get their happily ever after. And how awesome is that cover?

I like Cindy's books they are kinda neat. In this book I met Nissa and Cole. I really like how she made the character Nissa she is someone alot of us can relate to. Then there is Cole he is another person alot of people can relate to. I love the way she wrote this story. Its about taking courage in your hand and using it even when you are scared. I love the way there are unexpected plot twists and then these little unexpected surprises. Its a really neat book to read. I'm going to be looking for more of this SEAL team.

I just finished this book and I read it in 2 days, it was so good! I couldn't put it down! Romance and action are all through this book - especially the action at the opening scene! omg! Cole & his friends are so sexy - I love stories with Navy SEALs! I read the other books in this series also and am looking forward to the next one about Bass - another sexy SEAL who "talks" French Cajun. Can't wait! I totally recommend this book and the others in the miniseries!

Just the right amount of romance and action. There are moments where all senses go straight to hot & steamy, and then there are the moments when the story makes your heart race because you don't know how it will end. I did not want this book to end.
