Heather Shepherd, owner of Donut Delights and certified private investigator, is helping with a bake sale for Lilly's school. Lilly is the Shepherd's adopted daughter. Lilly and Heather have created the Funfetti donut for the occasion. The President of the PTA is Marcia Lindau. She is a very outspoken, mean and pushy person but manages to raise a lot of money each year for the school. She gets very snippy with Heather about her busy schedule then about Lilly not being her real daughter. Then the Shepherd's along with Amy are called to investigate a murder. Marcia Lindau has been murdered. She has been poisoned. When, where, how and by whom will need a lot of leg work as the suspect list is a long one. Unique murder mystery with a creative cast of characters will keep you guessing. This is book # 52 in the Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone. I volunteered to read Funfetti Murder. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
Funfetti Murder is the 52nd installment in Susan Gillard’s Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. This is a fun and clean read series. Even though a murder is involved, there is a strong message of family, caring, and compassion. Editing and proofing are still needed but there were fewer errors than usual in this installment.
Heather is happy because she and her adopted daughter, Lilly, have been working together to create the perfect donut for the PTA’s fundraiser. Hurtful comments made at the sale by Marcia Lindau (the PTA President) have Heather worried that she is juggling too much and not giving Lilly the attention that she needs and deserves. When Ryan receives a call that a woman was murdered at the Lindau home, Heather tells him that she needs to be cleared as a suspect before she and Amy can help with the case. Since it appears Marcia was poisoned by a bottle of her own wine, Heather isn’t considered a suspect.

This is the 52nd in the series. In this Heather is asked to help investigate a murder of a woman she had just met and really didn't like. She had to have hubby Ryan clear her before she could help at all. That was a first. The victim was head of the PTA and while she raised a lot of money for the school, she was also a mean bully. They had a lot of people to choose from. Getting the right one was a challenge. I thought I knew who did it a couple of times and was kind of surprised at who did it.
After 52 books in this long running series, Susan Gillard continues to entertain readers with her cozy mysteries set in small town Texas. Each story is unique, the mysteries have enough twists and turns time keep the reader engaged, and the characters have become old friends. Give this series a try, you won't regret it.
I read mysteries as a child and I think this one would be entirely appropriate for younger readers or older ones who want something light and entertaining. I like mysteries that have their characters involved in interesting occupations or hobbies. It can increase our knowledge of things or help point us to interesting things to try ourselves.
Bake sale at school for a fund raiser, Heather’s daughter Lily wanted something eye catching and colorful, to help sell. Talking to Marcia, before leaving, her comments about Lily made her see red. To hear later that she was poisoned by a bottle of wine. She was not very well like, and down trotted so many, so suspects are plenty. Good story.
Can't get enough of Heather, Ryan, and the gang. Definitely love Lilly and what dynamics she has brought in the mix of things. Cannot wait to see what other murders and mysteries await for us in this series.
Susan Gillard always writes a good, solid story. This one has Heather wondering if she is giving Lilly enough of her time as a Mother. This is a heart warming story in spite of the murder of a self centered woman. I loved this story and hope there will be many more.
Who murdered the witchy P.T.A. president. Suspects abound but Heather, Amy and Ryan work on clearing the innocent until Heather's epiphany leafs to a confession.
I love this whole series. Its a great cozy. If you like a cozy with great stories and great characters you will love than I recommend Susan Gillards books can't wait till 53
Well, this was a fun book. Unlike in previous books when Heather is potentially one of the suspects in this book. She actually does volunteer the information to Ryan when she finds out who the victim is. We get to see the relationship between Lilly and Heather grow deeper in this book. We also get to see Heather work through her feelings after being confronted about not being Lilly's biological mother. For parents who are busy, the worry that they are not taking care of their children the way they should is always a worry.
The murder was fairly simple to solve however, I wonder if the means of murder wasn't thought through. I work with insulin needles daily and they wouldn't fit through the cork. Gillard never specifies if she removed the cork or put the poison through the cork but the description of a "big" needle is wrong. My cat's insulin needles is much bigger than my mother's and it isn't long enough to go through a cork.
Other than that inconsistency, it was a fun story.

Heather and Lilly have fun concocting donuts for a school bake sale to raise money for playground equipment. Well, the PTA president is poisoned by someone who obviously does not care for her. Seems she was not the nicest person. So Heather and Amy once again have a case to solve. This one really kept me guessing to the end.
