Will her choice lead to peace, or will it lead to destruction?
Abandoned by her mother when she was seven, Nora fears being unloved and unwanted. Now eleven years later, Nora works for Palladium Enterprises, where she is given the secret task to locate and retrieve power orbs. It's here that she has finally found a "family" in her team-mates.
On a routine mission, she steps into a vault-like room and is frozen in time. Emerging five years into the future, she finds her friends on opposing sides of a war. While Nora struggles with who to trust, she is given a one-of-a-kind orb that transforms her desires into visible energy. She now holds the key to stopping the war.
But first she has a choice to make... Which side will she be on? ... And will her choice lead to peace or will it lead to destruction?

"A dramatic, engaging story, with impressive worldbuilding and intriguing characters. Ray of Light is sure to appeal to young adults who love fast-paced SF books." - Madeline Dyer, Amazon bestselling author of The Untamed Series.
"A real cliffhanger with all of the elements of a stunning story. Beautiful imagery and wonderfully complex, developed characters add to a plot which is fast-paced, never predictable and always twisting and turning. The differing perspectives of the characters raise important moral issues and great discussion points. First person narrative meant that I strongly felt the characters' emotions; pain, excitement, lust, embarrassment, happiness, uncertainty, and grief. I truly had those world crashing down, slow motion, stopped-in-time, internally chaotic moments. When I love a book, I devour it. I couldn't stop reading- and the best thing is, there are sequels! Ray of Light is a must-read!" - Jacqui, amazon review
"Elle Scott, and her debut novel Ray of Light, transformed me from speculative fiction sceptic to devotee." - Fiona Weaver, memoirist.

This type of genre normally isn't something I would be interested in, however, this definitely surprised me. I couldn't put it down. I may or may not have spent the entire day lazing about on the couch, immersed in my own imagination. Cannot wait for the next book to come out!!
" I face adversity and challenges but I laugh in their face. I will not run when things get rough, because I am a strong and resilient woman… And it's okay for me to leave." - RAY OF LIGHT by Elle Scott.
I do not normally read science fiction, but I decided to give it a try with this novel and I was not disappointed (slight spoiler: except with who Nora choses 😂). I loved the multiple point of views; it helped when reading how different the situation was for each person and understand how they feel.
This was very fast paced, in the best way possible, with many plot twists that kept you on your toes. I know it took me long to complete it, but that's my only regret. The characters were great and well developed (I would like to hear more from Eli and Ross though).
I cannot wait to read what the future holds for Nora and the rest of Team Alpha in the next novel, Harbor of Light. I would start it right now, but it is currently 1 am and I'm struggling to stay awake. Elle Scott's novel has captivated me and I might be reading more science fiction because of her.
Normally, I do not delve into the Sci-Fi world, but being an aspiring writer and reader I felt an urge to step slightly out of my comfort zone. Step into a world foreign to me. I've read other books that may border on the science fiction level with its words of technology, words that speak of other realms, but again, science fiction is not something that speaks to me. However, Elle Scott has peaked my interest with "Ray of Light". A book given to me as a gift. It kept me on the edge of my seat. Many of the books that I have read in my life were told in first, second or third person, never in multiple first person narrative. It was a surprise twist for me. In my opinion, Ms. Scott did a wonderful job in telling this story through multiple perspectives, but still keeping true to first person narrative. I found no discrepancies in her grammar or spelling which adds to the smooth flow of the story. Another bonus you might say is her ability to not write something predictable. Not knowing who could be trusted, who was the bad guy/villain, what was going to happen next, what really happened in the past helped drive the story and keep me wanting more. I had trouble putting the book down. There was nothing slow about this book. Every aspect of this book from the character development, setting, plot, climax and resolution went at a steady and at times fast paced but with nothing be left out that was pertinent to the story. This story is filled with so much emotion. Love, growth, anger, denial, choices, loyalty, betrayal, mystery, power, greed, self-awareness, and family. It is my opinion that Ms. Scott took her love and passion for sci-fi and blended it with small aspects of other genres. Just enough of those ingredients to make unity and a great story. I am eager to move onto the next chapter in the lives of these young people. The lives of young adults thrust into adulthood. Thrust into the world where the choices that they make affect not only themselves but the world around them.
The cover is eye catching and beautiful, the blurb gets you intrigued about what's inside the cover. I like that the story is from the points of view of multiple people, it gives the story more depth and understanding. I started reading this when I got into bed, so that I could give it my full attention. I ended up not being able to put it down, it was a fantastic adventure. The story is very creative, great for those who have a vast imagination and love fantasy. I would have to say that my favourite part of reading, was when I figured out what the 5 minutes, turning into 5 years meant! Overall I really enjoyed the book, and look forward to diving into part 2.
“Even after DARKNESS has crept throughout my body and threatened to leave me EMPTY, I don’t feel hollow. Instead, a small SPARKLE OF LIGHT glistens in the distance, and it’s called HOPE.
Firstly, a huge thank you to Elle Scott for sending us this gorgeous copy of ‘Ray of Light’ to review!!

One choice can change everything. Review:
Throughout this futuristic world, the stakes are high as it’s filled with characters that will grab and transform you from the start. Throughout the three-strong female leads self-discovery and personal capabilities are found.
This gorgeous cover is definitely eye catching and beautiful, motivating you to pick up and read this intriguing book that personally, looks at self-discovery, betrayal, friendships, love and grief.
The blurb helps get you intrigued about what’s hidden under the cover of this debuting novel! We absolutely loved reading this unique and daring story which has been written from the perspectives of multiple people. This helps to gather more depth and helped us gather a greater understanding of each character and their perspectives. It also helped to gain a greater knowledge behind the motives of the ‘uprising’ between the two organizations feuding over power and ownership of all orbs.
The way this book was set out with distinctive character perspectives raised important issues and created great plot twists. I felt the pull and release of each character’s emotions however, more in relation to the main character Nora. Throughout her pain, excitement, lust, love and grief, we devoured this book in such a short amount of time!
We just couldn’t put this book down and we felt that we were on this fantastic and unforgettable adventure along with the characters! The story was creative and fast paced. This is a perfect read for YA readers and Sci-Fi/Fantasy lovers. We really enjoyed the knowledge behind this book and the connection to the ‘Corridor’ and how 5 minutes’ turns into 5 years.
Throughout this fast-paced story line, this book was just so hard to put down. We had to keep telling ourselves, “no breaks just keep reading”. Through a couple of late nights, we finally finished this incredible and highly anticipated read. We loved the story line of ‘Ray of light’ as it was so unique to anything we’ve ever read before.
Through the use of imaginative imagery and well developed characters, this added to the plot which was fast paced, with twists and turns around each corner. We could never predict what was going to happen next! It was exactly what we wanted to read. It was right up our alley!
‘Ray of light’ by Elle Scott was an intriguing and engaging story that was interactive in the way that everyone can relate to her characters throughout this futuristic world. We could recommend ‘Ray of light’ to those who adore the genres of Sci-Fi and Fantasy and those who love YA novels and are always on the hunt for a new read!
Overall, we really enjoyed this book and will be waiting in anticipation for the sequel!!!
It's hard to find books that still surprise me. Books that can shock me with their twists, turns, and especially endings are applause-worthy!! I had a hard time guessing what was coming next, and that made me scoot to the edge of my seat in anticipation for what was coming next. Very few books have been able to accomplish this feat. Normally, I would tell a little bit about this book, but I really can't without giving it away!! I would start talking and then I wouldn't shut up!! LOL I highly recommend this book and I'm about to delve into book 2. I'll let you know how it turns out!!
I was lucky enough to read an ARC of this book, and this is a great science fiction novel for teens. The stakes are high, there's an intriguing futuristic world, and it's filled with characters that grab you right from the start.
One of my favourite things about this book is how it looks at self-discovery and the capabilities of different characters--oh, and it has three very strong female main characters.
The premise itself is great, really unique and unusual. And it made for an interesting read.
Recommended for teens and adults alike who love SF novels.
I enjoyed this story immensely and couldn't put it down - I just had to read on to find out what would happen next. Really looking forward to reading the next book!
This is an interesting story with many twists and turns. My only issue is the great character development sometimes makes the storyline move a bit slowly. Lots of opportunity for a very interesting next book. I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
A super interesting paranormal story! I was sucked in from the beginning and wasn't sure what I was going to get, but I just knew it would be good. Scott does not disappoint. From her blurb to character development to storytelling all are wonderful and well thought out. This is a great first book and I can't wait to read more in the series asap!! If you're a fan of paranormal stories then this is a book for you!
This book was just fantastic!! A fast paced storyline with believable characters made it so hard to put down...just had to keep on reading! I find that sometimes books can be quite 'same same' but really liked that the storyline of Ray of Light is unique to anything I've read before and cannot wait for the next book to come out!
MUST READ!! I literally couldn't put this book down. Everything about this story sucks you in. The characters and scenes are so detailed that you feel like you are a part of this wonderful creation. I can't wait for the next book!
RAY OF LIGHT is the first in the YA sci-fi trilogy 'The Incandescent Series'. It is fast-paced, has a bunch of kick-ass female protagonists, and delves into social issues like trust and self-discovery. I hope you enjoy. xx
I disliked so many things about this book. I don't generally like to complain about books or give spoilers in reviews, so I'll try to keep this brief.
The first thing I noticed was that another round of editing was needed for Ray of Light. I found comma errors, oddly worded sentences, and mismatched verb tenses within sentences. There were way too many exclamation marks throughout the book, not only at the end of dialogue but also in descriptive text.
There is practically no world building in the initial chapters. The author relies on secretiveness as a lure, as if wanting to know what was going on would entice readers to keep reading. It doesn't. Instead, Scott's tactic of not explaining anything was a complete turn off. I got the impression that there really wasn't anything to reveal or that the world simply hadn't been firmly established in the author's own mind and therefore couldn't be explained in the book. After finishing the book, I don't think I'm completely wrong in this. Instead of describing the orbs and the world fully, the reader gets a back and forth twisty narrative of 'these people are the bad guys! no, these people are the bad guys! no wait, it's sort of both!' It's like political intrigue for immature, brainless teenagers (I'm talking about the characters here).
Ugh, I could rant and rave on how idiotic and annoying all the characters are in this book FOREVER. I'll try not to. There was hardly any difference between the three girls whose perspective this story is told from. Meaning, none of them really had a unique 'voice' that differed from the others. I liked Viv the best probably, she was the closest to being unique. Nora was tiring, and Kate was worse. She instaloves a guy she meets once and for some reason can't get him off her mind. Ugh, ugh, ugh!
The story seemed more based on romantic entanglements than anything serious. Those bits were the most developed parts of the book. The sci fi parts with orbs and factions fighting over them was much less realized. As was the world building in general, like I said. Scott really didn't seem to do any research concerning parts of her story. I'll give you two astonishing examples: 1. helicopters 2. sunsets in Canada.
1. Helicopters are loud. Somehow though, characters managed to whisper to each other while riding in them, talk perfectly normally to each other just outside them, and walk a few steps away until the air was merely a 'gentle breeze' on their foreheads! All the groans!
2. Nora steps outside for an 8pm meeting after 7:42 pm one evening, sometime during the wintertime, in Canada. And yet, the sun is only just BEGINNING to set behind a mountain. A MOUNTAIN. Winter. Canada. Additional groans. And more groans.
There was something groan worthy in pretty much every chapter of this book. Seriously, more than 90% of the time I was cringing and rolling my eyes. I really disliked this book. I struggled through and finished it, hoping to find myself intrigued enough to read the next book in the series. Sadly, I was not, and I will not be reading the next book.
Keeps you guessing the whole way through and the characters are well-developed! Their stories squeezed my heart and brought tears to my eyes! I was a bit confused as to what was going on the first couple of chapters but soon after was swept away by this fast-paced thrill ride!
In a future full of technology, a group of teenagers work for a company on a mission to retrieve orbs. These orbs are extremely powerful- as we find out later in the book.
It’s written from three different POVs, all from the female protagonists. Although we do get an idea of what the male characters are like, it’s through a female gaze.
All the characters had dramatic backstories which gave them strength- but also made their voices sound very similar.
The time travel element really threw this book on another direction and it got very far-fetched in places. However, I did really enjoy this book. I liked the fact it had a large group of characters.
This book is amazing! The magic and suspense of the story leaves you hanging and keep wanting to read! I LOVED IT!!! So excited to read harbour of light and am proud to be a part of the Elle Scott Street Team! ❤️
