For recently divorced GP Laura Grant, the move to the beautiful Yorkshire village of Hawkshead means a fresh start. New patients, new colleagues, and an altogether different challenge will help, she hopes to put her failed marriage behind her.
But before long, changes are threatening her newly-found peace of mind. A proposed quarry at Black Gill threatens to destroy the landscape she is growing to love. Laura is determined to do something to prevent the destruction, and enlists the help of her ex-husband, Tom - a decision she may regret, when it becomes clear he is anxious to use this as an excuse to rekindle their relationship. But Tom has reckoned without the threat of a rival - Matthew Aire is a local landowner, and as Tom pursues Laura, she seems to be increasingly drawn to Matthew.
Entertaining read....although I had put it off for a long time until suddenly I'd read everything else so picked this one up.
Recently divorced GP Laura Grant moves out of London and far away back to her roots in Yorkshire, to the little village of Hawkshead where she joins the general practice as the 3rd doctor in a small clinic. Still putting the pieces of her life back together she meets some very interesting people and the lives they lead and the things they do...and shouldn't. When a big corporation wants to quarry in the valley, the locals are up in arms about it, and Laura joins the protest. The problem is, the land belongs to the mother of Laura's new love interest, and when the village goes to protest about the proposed quarry ruining their valley, Laura calls in a big gun for support....her ex husband, a research and investigative journalist. Things don't exactly run smoothly but the story is a very good read and I am now searching for more books by Kate Fielding.
2.5 porque no es un desastre pero sin más. Lo he leído porque me lo compré en un verano de estos que encuentras una caja de libros a 1 euro y ahí estaba esperando.
A very enjoyable book. It reminded me of the James Herriott books, in that it was set in the Yorkshire Dales, and features a woman doctor rather than a vet. A story of ordinary lives and people who can do extraordinary things when circumstances call for it.
Not the best book ever, but it is linked to a holiday that was extremely great, and therefore I have good memories of this book as well. An easy-to-read, I guess :)
