Complete Spectrum of Magic Series Book 1: Spell Breaker Book 2: Fate Shifter Book 3: Cursed Stoned Book 4: Magic Unborn Book 5: Libra - Spectrum of Magic - Epilogue

Orla and Lorcan are back. They have been successful in creating a new life for themselves in the Daimon Gate, but that life is now being threatened by another. Another gatekeeper wants them to turn on the one who helped them cheat the process. He knows about Orla and her unique abilities and he seeks to expose them for what they are. But they aren’t the only ones in danger. Someone is seeking a unique and special key. So Orla and Lorcan are recruited to locate and find the key. It won’t be an easy task. The former gatekeeper is “unavailable” and while the key is hidden it is being sought after by those who would misuse it. It is now a race against time as Lorcan and Orla seek the key in a race against other creatures who wish to exploit it. Fate Shifter is book two in D.N. Leo’s Spectrum of Magic series. This book picks up where the first book left off. I really like this because that means that it flows from one story to the next. While we don’t get a lot of information about this new world that Lorcan and Orla are living in, I like that we get a small taste at least to have some understanding of it. The author throws in a hint of danger to the two main characters very quickly in the story. The danger quickly expands from just them to other characters being involved as well. It is a delicate work of weaving deceptions while not being caught. Quickly the author gets to the main line of the story – the key. I like the various elements that author brings to the story. In this book we get more paranormal creatures than in the first book. There is magic, danger, deception, and surprises. While this story is engaging, there are some issues that I have with the story. There are some editorial issues with the story, misspelled words that catch the eye. Also, there are some sentences in the story that breaks the flow of the story. The sentences are too simple and don’t seem to fit in the story because of it. Also, there are moments and situations that are just too predictable. I want moments of surprise in a story. With certain situations you see the next scene coming a mile away, and I feel that this takes away from the overall story. All in all, I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed the story. It’s fast-paced and engaging, but I feel that there could be more done with it. With the editorial issues, the simple sentences that don’t fit, and predictable scenes I feel like it takes away from the overall story. I think that the author would do well to keep the reader guessing and not be so obvious. If you enjoyed the first book in this series, then I say go ahead and pick this book up and start reading. Orla and Lorcan escaped to the Daimon Gate, a virtuous universe far away from Earth. The dark magic was not supposed to follow them. Physical rules were strange here, so she was encountering a black wall blocking her path home. She knew if she turned around, that direction would suddenly be blocked as well. Her psychic ability was giving her no feedback. A branch on the ground flew up at her and cut her arm.
The black walls continued to close in to trap her. She threw fireballs again and again until the wall collapsed and vanished. Then a man, clapping, stepped out from a dark corner. Lorcan had told her there were invisible networks of dimensional holes that only gatekeepers had access to and could control. The walls were created from those. So she knew he had to be a gatekeeper. And he knew they had cheated their way in. And he had tricked her into showing what he called dark magic to prove his point, using the walls to shield her actions from the EYE. But he needed a favor and was holding back the proof of how they entered the Gate in return for this favor. He wanted Ciaran LeBlanc, the king of Eudaiz who had helped them cheat the system, to be reported to the central. Instead, she threw fireballs at him. When Lorcan appeared, she didn’t see the wall move and knock her in the head as she slid into unconsciousness.
Already, the reader quickly finds excitement and suspense within this fast-paced story line! The reader’s attention is immediately grabbed and the wild rollercoaster adventure begins. Will Orla and Lorcan be able to protect the people they care about? What awaits them? You won’t want to miss this excellent book! It contains strong characters and a strong story line that won’t let go!
I don't know how DN Leo does it, but once again we have a fun story, here starring Lorcan and Orla (two of my favorite characters) in an action packed adventure in her Multiverse, with an insanely great mix of paranormal, sci fi and fantasy. Strong plot, strong lead and supporting characters, and strong writing (it's a real pleasure reading the dialogue among these characters and watching them interact with the surroundings and deal with everything that hits them). Result? You guessed it: another strong book in this series that I definitely recommend (strongly).
One caveat: it's highly recommended that you read the complete set of the A Shade of Mind Book Series prior to starting the Spectrum of Magic series. It's not that the latter can't stand alone; it most definitely can. It's just that the storylines of these two series are interwoven so knowing what happened in the prior series enhances the already high level of enjoyment of this series.

It is strongly suggested that you read the complete set of A Shade of Mind Book Series as this Spectrum series storylines are interwoven. The stories a represented in each book as you read further so it is like a spoiler alert if you have not read the previous series and it will help explain actions for which there is no background in this series.

Oh my this story is fast paced and will have your heart beating fast! We meet up with Lorcan and Orla and they;re given a mission to find the key of Psuche and to take it to the Daimon Gate for safekeeping. They go to the gate to speak to the keeper who had been turned into the stone of the gate. They learn the key is in Japan. So off they go. This is the second book in the Spectrum of Magic series and I highly recommend that you read the first book in order to get the full enjoyment of this one. Orla and Lorcan have entered a new world by entering a daimon gate. They soon have to go on dangerous missions to earn their way. There is plenty of action and adventure as well as a little romance.
If you enjoy fantasy, this book is entertaining and well-written. The author has done a great job of world building and character development and you will feel all of the emotions experienced by the main characters.
