Doesn't Meet Expectations

When you are reading a crime thriller written by the best writer of this genre in hindi languages who has written around 300 novels , you tend to have some great expectations , but for me sadly it didn't match my expectations

Plot : Jocam fernandes who is working with amar naik gang is given responsibility of handling diamonds worth 20 crores along with another person , but he double crosses the gang to usurp the diamonds, but he is pursued by virat pandya who is from a rival gang , he manages to get in taxi oh jeet singh , who is a do gooder , with a history of being a lockbuster in robberies. Jocam gives the diamonds to jeet singh for safe keeping and is killed by virat pandya .Noe begins the cat and mouse game between the gangs in search of diamonds and jeet singh gets into this mess. Will jeet singh be able to get his hands on these diamonds this time ? will his luck change this time ?

Positives : Ending of novel is suspenseful & zaps you , the use of real places, local language, local cuisine , potrayal of underworld , subject treatment is good.

Negatives : The Character of jeet singh is now becoming boring for me , bcos the end with him is predicatble ,u know he is going to lose his money , in this novel only glimpse of his heroism is when he captures virat pandya and overpowers him in the chawl . otherwise he is just running amok , fearfully with no retaliation. amar naik appears to be the hero of this novel . Jeet singh series is not growing , he was same what he was in first novel . The earlier novels of this series were good.
The pace of this novel was too slow, same scenes were repeated in conversations with different people , there was lack of thrill & novel was too predictable barring the last few chapters .

An excellent thriller which goes like a fast-paced movie leave reader to get glued to the book and leave the chair when done with the book.

Surendra Mohan Pathak is the biggest name in Indian crime fiction. His main USP is real-like characters, a smooth narration of incident and a full dose of suspense and thrill. In this novel, he is at his best.

A man is trying to live a straight life after getting involved in few crimes but not able to. He is trying to earn his bread and butter by being an ordinary taxi driver. One day a passenger hand him a briefcase for safe custody and his life again get back to the old routine to save his life.

A very interesting, fast paced , superbly crafted , crime novel by the maestro. With Jeeta being the hero the Mumbai backdrop was a certainty and that really adds to the flavour of the book. A neo-noir start, fast paced middle and sensational climax, act like magnet and leaves the reader gasping and wanting for more.

More than 300 books in 50 years of writing career !! - that is more than the books written by Agatha Christie(~71), Stephen King(~88), James Hadley Chase(~90) COMBINED - that is one book every 2 months - that is more than most people read in one life time.
Unbelievable!!!
Let me admit, this is my first book by the author, and most probably, the last. Clearly, I am past that phase of reading where I enjoyed pot-boilers and pulp-fiction. However, I can't help but admire the reading pleasure that Surendra Mohan Pathak has given millions of Indians through his books. Take a bow, Surendraji.

As far as this book is concerned, it reads like the script of a low budget 70's Bollywood movie. Sadly, I got bored and left it half way through.

Surender Mohan Pathak’s ‘Diamonds are for All’ is translated by the author from Heera Pheri and takes place within the span of a week in which a haul of diamonds is brought for a don and gangster, smuggler and racketeer rolled into one through a half official, half illegal channel: only a fraction of the haul is registered with the Customs with a hefty bribe being paid off. The diamonds are being brought in the backdrop of one major gangster at odds with another one and other players at a loss after their gang leaders have been arrested or finished off. When they are being brought in, there are plans within plans and various actors with different agendas who want the diamonds for themselves.

The turn of events in ‘Diamonds are for All’ are fast paced and all that the reader can do is to turn the pages and keep reading. There are personal agendas that clash with small time players getting ambitious and planning betrayals and then there are other players who are keeping watch to grab the diamonds. Things go to a head and taxi driver Jeet Singh is caught in the scheme of things. As events unfold at break neck speed, one is caught in the tension of it all but also realize that there are layers into Jeet Singh whose middle name could well be resourcefulness. When Jeet Singh becomes the hunted, the manner that he turns to his friends and how they help him be one step ahead of his pursuers is believable. The talk of his back-story is pretty interesting and I would love to read more of Jeet Singh though I am not too sure whether all the books featuring him have been translated into English.

I would definitely recommend this book and any other of the pulp fiction that Surender Mohan Pathak has written to readers who want to read noir for the sheer local flavour that the author brings to his characters and the situations they find themselves in.

The story depicts the scenario of Mumbai, the city of crime and crime masters. The well known don of Mumbai, Amar Nayak, calls for his consignment of diamonds worth Rs 20 crore from Dubai. He lays down his selective and most trustworthy men for this job. But so much money can make anyone a traitor. Hence one of Amar Nayak's men, Jocum Ferrando, tries to run away with Amar Nayak's consignment. Because of his fate he falls into trouble and ends up running from people of opposite gang.

Running from them, he blocks the path of taxi driver Jeet Singh. He entrusts him with the briefcase and asks him to deliver the same to a girl in Jogeshwari; he jumps off from the moving taxi. And the next day when Jeet Singh goes to return the bag at Jogeshwari, he finds that both the man and his girl are dead. And now he is left with that briefcase with diamonds worth Rs 20 crores.
Now what will happen next? Will he keep all the diamonds and encase it and lead a luxurious life ahead or will he fall into a much big trouble?
💎💎
Reading this made me fall in love with the character of Jeet Singh. The selection of words he uses. The presence of mind is everything. It is a novel worth reading for every crime fiction lover. I assure u that u will fall in love with the book and will be glued to it.

Readers who are more comfortable with Hindi than English can also read its Hindi book named "हीरा फेरी".

Diamonds Are for All is a real gem from the master storyteller. A novel so fast paced that one will forget everything. It's a must read. I read it in one sitting. The Underworld is here with the full flow. But that is expected from Mr. Pathak. As he is the person who coined the term "Company" for Underworld. Five stars from me.
