Trisha Greenhalgh’s book breathes fresh air into what can quickly become a dry and staid topic. I read the book during the formulation phase of a PhD, giving thought to the barriers of implementing evidence-based practice in mental health service settings.

The good: The book is sensibly and sequentially laid out. Although I consumed the content cover-to-cover, a more focussed reader could easily find what they were looking for. The language is accessible and the writing style incorporates humour and some anecdotes, which really help to anchor the concepts in the real world of healthcare. The author disseminates existing theories and examples of practice, while also bringing novel approaches and ideas to the table.

The bad: None that I could find.

The summary: Read the book! While the focus lies with EBP, I have also found myself brimming over with ideas for lecturing and my personal development. I can advance in my studies with a far clearer understanding of the relevant language and concepts of implementing EBP and I will be referring back to this text as my career progresses from thinking to doing.
