Disappointing
But not surprising. I lost interest in trying to finish because of the story's logic or lack thereof. Where to begin?
The twelve person platoon is a little hard to fathom, think 40 to 50+ as a better number. Wolf pack as the unit's name may be suitably macho but it doesn't convey defender of humanity.
The ships being commanded by admirals was irksome. Admirals command groups of ships. The ship that carries the admiral is actually commanded by a flag captain. There was no size comparison of ships, to explain crew composition or function.
These platoons have remote controlled landers? The navy couldn't spare shuttle crews of two? Why the mix of naval and military ranks in such a hodge podge manner.
Does it really make sense that a few groups of twelve soldiers can restore order to a planetary population of millions?
Catholics quoting the bible even in the future, I don't think so. That's why we have priests. They catch us up on any good stuff we might have missed. He describes a seriously stratified society dominated by a breakaway Catholic church, and is surprised that civil war might erupt. Really?
There was a nice jab or three at the clergy living well at the expense of the poor but given the above, it feels more like someone's not so latent anti-papism.
The story suffers from a lack of clearly drawn colonial societies, the authority behind the defense force, the terran society that created it, or its mission other than to be the "tip of the spear".
These books are proof that you can enjoy first person shooters in a science fiction setting but that's not enough of a foundation to write military fiction of any sort.

Book 1, pretty good, book 2... really, really bad
Wow, where to get started. Really liked book 1, thought it went just a little overboard with the Navy vs Recon rivalry and that was about the only negative.
Let me just throw a few things out there that, for me anyway, really ruined this book and the potential follow ups.
The worst part was the first 70% of the book. This book is split into the standard 70%/30%, setup then action sequence and ending, with a twist. Rather than follow on from Book 1's setup he creates a new, completely unrelated stand-alone mission for the first 70%.
Without giving away details. It is pretty much an entire mission telling us that not only is the Catholic Church an evil institution but it's followers are all murderous thugs as well. Yeah, he decided to just go on a soapbox rant attacking a church and all of it's members. Then it goes to a completely different mission for the last 30% that relates to book 1 and even that is a disaster.
Science fiction can be fantastical or detailed with regards to actual science, but not just wrong at the most basic levels. Example; their ship creates a gravity well so we can't communicate with them radio waves. I guess communication with satellites from down here in earths massive gravity well is a mystery?!
The basic human condition. Example; men and women within a combat unit should, not are, but should be fraternizing because it is a good thing. If we bred the male's instinct to protect woman out of them they probably wouldn't start a relationship in the first place. You can't just change the human condition, Tony!
I could go on and on, but I won't. Real, real shame as this series had such promise.

No more repeats please
I enjoyed this book very much, I Will eagerly be awaiting the next one I did not like the repeat premise of a troublesome recruit that gives the captain trouble, that was already done in the first book. I also believe that the captain is too nice. I enjoyed the cast of characters and was sad that some were killed and injured. If you like science fiction, fast-paced action you will enjoy this book I suggest that you give it a try.

Great military sci_fi Read
This was a very interesting fast pace action packed story that I really enjoyed. This story follows a young man straight out of high school into the military space force reconnaissance divisions. It covers his training and his first few missions. He makes it to captain and has to deal with all the bs politics for being such a young officer.
Now if only this Author can finish any of his stories it would be great.

Must read
Even better than the first novel in the series. I was hoping it would be, and it beat my expectations hands own. I'm always glad when I come across a series like this years after it was first published and can then binge read every book one one go, but at the same time I'm dreading finishing the last one and then looking for something else to read. But currently I am enjoying this series and can highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys high quality science fiction.

Awesome
Okay I enjoyed the first book in this series a great deal and wondered how book two would stack up to it. Well I wonder no more. It was better 😁 great story, great set of charecters and the introduction of the alien bad guy's lol I'm glad that a couple of the recon squad from book one made it into this one as it gives some continuity to the story, not just about Dean. Not sure about the romance bit though lol

Excellence in a story well told!
The Wolf series (Books 1&2) were my first exposure to this author and I was thoroughly pleased... Pleased with the telling of the story as well as the character development and superior editing. The author has set the bar high for others and that's a very good thing! I can't wait to read the next book in the series!!

I like it
This was different then my normal series of books. Each book start slow but gets better. Like the author have to get his creative juices flowing. If you kinda like the first book, the second really validate the characters and the world. I look forward to reading the third book.

Book 2
Book 2 was a fun read and had errors throughout. The plot and characters have developed well enough together. The plot has increased and added another species to the mix. The main characters are well developed and have good points and bad to their character. Some parts dragged on and were repetitive in places and Dean is sometimes naive about others on hin team.

Welcome Indeed!
I've been waiting for this second book of this series ever since I finished the first one. Toby Neighbors is an excellent wordsmith and story teller. I'm anxiously awaiting book three. Highly recommended.

Great read
Fast easy read. Book flows on its merits does not depend on foul language or gratuitous sex. Wholesome and exiting. A rare commodity. A book I would give to a preteen as well as an adult.

welcome to the wolf pack
Good military science fiction no surprises in plot. I did like the story so I finished it. I generally give a 3-5 depending on plot twists.

Best series ever
I loved the action of this series. To be honest I get wrapped up in the action and it reminds me of my time of being in the military.
