Nothing worse than getting ants at your picnic... unless it is vampires. It's the 4th of July and the nation is celebrating the United States' independence. Except someone dressed like George Washington has figured out a way to turn the revelers into mindless drones. Looks like a job for Maggie and Killian.

Red, White and Maggie: A Maggie MacKay Short Story
Good grief can't Maggie, Killian and her family enjoy just one Fourth of July celebration??!!! All started out well for Maggie MacKay (a magical tracker), Killian (her elf partner), Maggie's family and friends at a local park. They, Maggie, Killian, Maggie's Mom, Dad, sister Mindy, her husband Austin and friends couldn't wait for the hot dogs, potato salad, chip and beverages to be served!
But of course someone came to the cookout without an invitation! He immediately started to cause all sorts of mayhem, invited other nasty creatures to attend and tried his musical best to ruin the day and the fireworks display!!
BUT he had no idea he was facing the MacKay family and their friends!! After much destruction, fighting and bodily harm the MacKay's stepped up to the plate and along with Mindy's family favorite "magical brownie" sent the musical imposter sailing away, literally!
A great and humorous story and the fireworks were fantastic !!
This is a really short, super quick read. I thoroughly enjoyed the chaos and confusion, complete with all the familiar faces in the Maggie crew (or M-team).
What starts as a simple BBQ ends up (of course) going horribly wrong. There's paranormals, humans, and anything in between all thrown into danger. Oh, and there's fireworks! This is a very short story, so don't expect huge impact. It probably is more accurately somehow in parallel to the last book, not after it, since all these books line up without pause.
Excellent humorous story! A good twist on an old story with lots of bad guys thrown in. New friends and a happy ending! I am still waiting for Maggie and Killian to get together! Killian learns some new things on old traditions and things not to do, lol!
It was fun getting a little glimpse at how the MacKay family celebrates the holiday and it was nice to have a moment of normal fun without all the doom and gloom of the current problems our favourite characters are facing in the series proper.
Pipstrelle is officially my favorite! He's so cute and saves the day without meaning to. The bottle rocket was a nice touch. Even though it was short it was still packed with a lot of stuff. I loved it!
There was a lot of excitement in this fast and short story and I enjoyed it very much. It all worked out for the good. That if you were on Maggie's side.
