In raw November Tina Merritt returned to her seaside home in Cape May, New Jersey, seeking solace, escape. But there was no escape from Dirk Tanger, who held the key to her trust fund--and to a lock on her heart. She tried to hate him, to blame him for her failed marriage, for her troubled business, and for refusing her the loan she needed to survive. Finally he agreed--with a catch. She could have unlimited access to her funds in exchange for marriage, his price to bail her out of debt. He was her passionate obsession, but could she really give herself to a man determined to have her at any cost?
Pros: This book was really short and a really quick read.
Cons: I feel like this embodies every single thing I hate in modern romances. Manipulative hero that uses his power, privilege, wealth to get what he wants. Heroine hates hero, but her body is traitorous. It's trying to use the tropes of historical romances but set in modern times, where it is a lot more inappropriate and icky. Also doomed love from the start. *rolls eyes*
I usually am okay at separating my feminist brain from romance novels, but not on this one. I can understand the fantasy behind this, but it's not portrayed as a kink in a healthy relationship, but a game between two emotionally immature people. The power dynamics are pretty fucked up, imho. The HEA with the changes of heart did nothing to change that thought to me. *shrugs*
