King Liam has faced many foes since taking the throne but this one is more personal than most. The God Veros is one of the artificial intelligences from Earth and has been hatching plans and building his base of power for a very long time. The struggle shall make all those involved rediscover who they truly are, and make hard choices for the days to come.
Better than some others in the series, but this guy really needs better proofreaders or editors, prefferably ones that know the diference between possible and possibly. In addition, at the end of the book the author has a blurb about the next book. In that blurb he says ashley finally got the closure she been seeking for quite some time. Well, if you call her having absolutely nothing to do with his death because Veros had put her out of commission with a single hit while others did the killing, then I suppose it could be called closure, but if you ask me, it just looks like false advertising to me. On the other hand, I did think this book was better written, and except for one or two scenes about earth, it was left out of the book, which I think was the right move. Definitely not an award winner, but well enough to keep me interested, even if I did have to take breaks to get through it because of a few slow parts. Still, a good installment in the series overall.
Certainly better than the last book. DLC has done exactly what I was hoping, and toned down the chaotic story a bit and focused it. I'm not sure what it focused it on, but it is a focused story now. The whole thing kind of has the feel of a never ending story to it, but the next book is supposed to be the last one, so I guess I'll find out what the point of it all is then. I'd still very much like to know the higher mechanics of the universe (what is the super computer running this all, and who's doing it) but I doubt that'll be explained.
All and all, this book isn't great but it's not bad either, and I look forward to seeing where it all ends up.
Just When You Think You've Seen It All The frontal attack on the latest really tough god ends up in total loss, but don't worry, losing doesn't matter in this story.
I did enjoy Veros's corporation staffed by fairy-tale memes come to life.
The proposal, acceptance, and wedding didn't seem sufficiently developed, and left me wondering "Why, Liam, why". As our main character shouldn't we understand his decisions a bit better by now. The flippant "I have a type" logic was insufficient for me.
Poor "Death Hand" Walt has lost all interest or caring in life, which is sad as he had the most potential for development and I was rooting for him in earlier books.
Looking forward to the last book, mainly so I can wrap this series up. At this point its mainly curiosity about what new things will pop up, as I really have lost all interest in the characters.
Two stars means that I finished the book but I did not like the book.
Why didn't I like the book? Almost the entire book can be skipped. read about 10% in the start, and 10% at the end and you have the story of DLC. For me the book was a slog to read though and I did not enjoy it. I am not looking forward to endgame the final book in the series, and if I hadn't already bought the book, I would just drop the series.
This story gets back to the crucible shard, and the main characters. I enjoyed the mystery of the new DLC, and agree that most DLC is horrible and money grabbing. The ending was fitting as well, but left some open threads which will be interesting to see in the last book in the series.
