This didn't quite end up being my favorite trope--huge life changes on short acquaintance are something I am very picky about in my romance novels--but as ever Ms. Turner writes such wonderfully human people, that it's hard not to get swept away in.
this was tough to rate; definitely didn't love it like I did the previous books in the series. (that said, I'll be reading the next one.)
I didn't quite feel the connection to Ethan and Fee and it felt a bit insta-love between them. I also didn't love that Ethan got so mad at Fee for and both of them felt like he was justified in being mad about it - but it could just as easily been that Fee could have been mad that , but this fact never comes up - it just seemed like a double standard.
but in general, it was well-written and I like this author's interconnected series and all the characters.
Forever a Heartbreaker by Genevieve Turner Always a Cowboy #3
Have you ever heard a voice that rocked your world, made you swoon, made you dream…then...sort of gotten a crush on that voice? Well, that is just what Ofelia had happen to her and then she felt compelled to learn all she could about the man behind the voice never realizing that one day she would meet that man face to face. Sometimes when one comes face to face with one’s crush the person cannot live up to the man created in dreams and sometimes the person proves to be even better. Well, Ethan is oh so much better than his voice, his books or any of his videos and when he sets his sights on Ofelia and she realizes he has things begin to sizzle…only to pop and almost stop when the crush is inadvertently exposed.
I loved Ethan – what a hottie – oh my! To have his focused attention would be well, fanning myself here! And Ofelia – what a strong, dynamic, empowered woman she is with a heart that is even bigger than I expected. This couple so deserves to have their HEA!
I love this author and her books. I have never read a book by her that I have not liked and this is no exception. I would like to thank her for having me on her ARC readers’ team and also say that this is my honest opinion AND also say that I can’t wait to read whatever she produces next.
Genevieve Turner might be a magician because normally I hate lie of omission plots but I was completely spellbound during this story. It hit some predictable beats but she knows how to write compelling characters. I was completely in Ethan and Fee’s court from the beginning. I understood why Fee didn’t confess to her crush on a man she never expected to meet. I believed how quickly they came to have feelings for one another and Ethan’s reaction made complete sense as a result. They had such great chemistry and I was willing them to get over the bumpy parts so they could get back to each other.
There are a few aspects that could have used a bit more exploration—why Fee was so hostile toward her cousin who used to be in prison, for example. Josh has a book in a different series and I’m guessing it’s dealt with there but her reaction toward him took me aback, especially since he never appeared on page here. Contrast this with what happens There’s also a good deal of ableist language and some gender essentialism.
Ethan did an amazing job truly seeing Fee and taking care of her. I mean, he brought her a sandwich in the middle of a wedding she was running and forced her to eat! It was so sweet. Also: I really related to Fee’s discontentment and wondering if this was all there is to life. It made me that much more satisfied to see how things evolved for her both personally and professionally.
There are some big clues about the couple in the next book and I cannot wait to see how their relationship plays out!
Character notes: Ethan is a white Australian horse trainer, author, and podcaster. Fee is a 30 year white hotel manager and wedding planner. This is set in Cabrillo, CA.
CW: heroine talks about love in terms of addiction, codependent relationship, references to hero’s sister’s drug use, hero’s sister is arrested for selling drugs and will go to prison, hero becomes guardian of his nieces, unstable childhood (for hero and for his nieces), alcohol, gendered insult, gender essentialism, ableist language, hero’s mother died of lung cancer when he was 18, hero’s father left when his mom was pregnant with his younger sister, disparaging references to cousin who was formerly in prison
I don't know if the title really fits the book, there wasn't a lot of heartbreaking going on. But this was really enjoyable. Ofelia and Ethan make an interesting pair. If someone touched me like Ethan, I'd be a puddle on the floor. I liked how their connection started and where their relationship took them. Burning question...did Rowan ever let someone brush her hair?
Fanning myself! Wow, Ethan......... all man mixed with vulnerability. He can and will melt your heart. This series just keeps getting better and better!
Seeking discomfort with all the changes to follow a gut instinct is the way I live by! So, when the curveball was thrown into this story it made it really hard to put this book down!
