Maine Justice #4

Heartbreaker Hero: Eddie's Story

Rate this book
All detective Eddie Thibodeau wants to do is marry the woman he loves, but after a Facebook post goes viral, that may not be easy. It seems half the women in Portland are in love with the handsome detective, and Leeanne Wainthrop isn’t sure whether she can trust Eddie’s declaration of love or not.
A dead man found in Chief Mike Browning’s back yard on Christmas Day is the first clue to a plan hatched from vengeance. Can Eddie ignore the distractions of his love life and measure up when he comes face to face with a hired killer? The men of the Priority Unit are ready to stop a released criminal intent on murder. Once again, they set out to deliver Maine Justice.

FROM AUTHOR'S WEBSITE: I'm a native of central Maine, and grew up on a small farm with a wonderful mom and dad, three sisters and a brother. Most of my books take place in small towns, many of them in Maine.

My husband, Jim, and I moved to his birth state, Oregon, for a while after we were married, but decided to move back to Maine and be near my family. It allowed our six children to grow up feeling close to their cousins and grandparents, and some of Jim's family have even moved to Maine!

Our children are all home-schooled. When Jim retired from his vocation as an editor at a daily newspaper, we moved from Maine to Kentucky.

I've always loved reading, history, and horses. These things come together in several of my historical books.
Another longtime hobby of mine is genealogy, which has led me down many fascinating paths. I'm proud to be a DAR member! Some of Jim's and my quirkier ancestors have inspired fictional characters.

For many years I worked for the Central Maine Morning Sentinel as a freelancer. This experience was a great help in developing fictional characters and writing realistic scenes. I also published nonfiction articles in several magazines and had several short stories appear in Woman's World, Grit, and Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine.

If you are a fan of faith based, inspirational stories, you might enjoy this series about the Portland, Maine Police Dept Priority Unit. The mystery aspect is not overly involved but the characters are inspiring.

This latest in the Maine Justice series is a well done addition. The mix of police life and personal life has a good balance with lots of detail into police work. The characters are well developed. The story line moves easily from start to finish. Very much looking forward to more in this series. Highly recommend. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Eddie is probably my favorite character in this series, so it was cool to read a book that centered more on him. Davis brought back the rest of the characters along with the suspense and mystery of the other 3 books in the series. Another awesome read in the Maine Justice Series

Enjoyed seeing from Eddie's point of view

While seeing the priority unit from Eddie's view point was very interesting, I especially liked the difference his French Catholic heritage brought to the story.

This falls between 3.5 and 4 stars for me (rating shown may vary depending on whether site allows half star ratings).

I heard of this series through a friend who listed them on GoodReads.

The back cover blurb seems a bit misleading. Yes, there is a question about Eddie's past dating life that affects his relationship with Leanne, but the viral Facebook post doesn't come until about halfway through the book, and the issue had already been brought up before then, so the Facebook post really didn't create the drama that the back cover blurb seemed to imply it did.

I appreciated learning a little more about Eddie and his family. There's also a bit of discussion about his French Catholic background and his new belief in Jesus and how they conflict.

It certainly seems like the plan is for Leanne and Eddie to eventually get engaged.

I was glad to see Abby's love triangle change. I had liked Greg's character until this book where he both issued an ultimatum-ish idea to Abby and made his decision without giving her even a few days to give him an answer to the ultimatum he'd presented to her. Perhaps it was just fear at having another potential broken engagement--the action happens off stage, so we don't get to see the actual scene or see the characters in the moment--we only get to hear Abby's account of it.

At the same time, I don't know if Peter is the one for Abby either

Although I have never been fond of the name Eddie, I enjoyed reading about this Eddie. He has come a long way since the beginning of the series. I appreciate that he is not embarrassed to share his faith. He is quite believable as he struggles with his past and desires to get as far as he can from the reputation he once had. Harvey has been a wonderful influence and a great mentor for him and I sense that will continue as long as they work together. The sad thing is that too few young men have a man like Harvey in their corner. The suspense is intense as they seek to protect the chief and his wife from whomever wants to take him out. Leeanne and Eddie seem so different that the reader has to wonder if they have any chance at a relationship. Jennifer and Harvey are so supportive of her sisters and their friends. I loved how they constantly had friends and family over for meals and games, although I doubt I could have kept up their pace. I had to sympathize with Eddie when it came to his own family. He seemed to be constantly under attack any time he got near them. The excitement continued to grow throughout the book. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I received a copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

This is Eddie and Leanne's story. After one of his former girlfriends posts on Facebook about what Eddie was like and had left a lot of girls crying - and a lot of other girls start talking about how he made them cry - well, Leanne isn't sure what to think. Eddie is rather distraught about it because he has truly changed and he really loves Leanne.

After seeing an accident and saving the little boy and putting out the fire in the car, Eddie also becomes a hero - that just complicates things even further!

Then there is Harvey and Jennifer, they are expecting a wee one and Harvey is over the moon. Abby has to figure out if she is going to be with Greg or Peter, time for her to grow up too. Jeff and Beth have their wedding and are on their honeymoon.

While all that is happening, Chief Mike's grandchildren find a body in his backyard while they are there for Christmas! He calls Eddie and Harvey to check it out. It turns out someone wants Mike dead!

Lots of action and romance - and clean to boot!

This story focuses more on Eddie and his growing feelings for Leanne. Harvey, Jennifer, Abby, the Priority Unit team and a few others are still a vital part to the storyline. A dead body found in Mike’s back yard starts another case that has them scrambling to find clues and answers to. Mike is put on security detail, which he hates, but the clues keep adding up to someone wanting him taken out. Abby has some upsets with one of her men she is dating and some time in contemplation. Eddie has to deal with some video of him rescuing a toddler from a wreck and a news station wanting to interview him after that video went viral. Each story stands on its own as far as cases, but the personal relationships build in each one, which I personally love. Can’t wait to continue with this series!

The Portland Police Department is changing! Since accepting Christ as his saviour, handsome Eddie has changed from the ladies' man of earlier books in the series but his reputation is still there! Eddie is a great main character in Heartbreaker Hero especially when he rescues a young child and puts out a vehicle fire. Someone wants the police chief dead and the Priority Unit is trying to find out who it is! This book includes lots of danger and death but it also has lots of love. I have liked all of the books in the Maine Justice series and recommend them to anyone who likes suspense with a little romance. I received a complimentary e-book of Heartbreaker Hero from the author. This is my honest opinion.

Heart throb & Leeanne

Eddie has broken many hearts with his pre-Christian, womanizing lifestyle. But meeting Christ has changed him, and meeting Leeanne has made him want to keep on the straight & narrow. When he makes headlines and the Morning Show in an act of heroism, all those previously spurned women start coming out of the woodwork, causing Leeanne to doubt his commitment to her.

A great book continuing the story of the Priority Unit gang. I have to say, I'm in a hurry to find out more so this book didn't go far enough along!!! It certainly whet my appetite for the next installment of the Maine Justice series.

I do think that this book very accurately portrays the progression of new believers in their faith, as Eddie has to deal with his past actions. Nicely done!

I enjoyed the continuing story line in this series. Eddie found the love of his life but I was wanting more.. left me with a lot of questions.. Maybe I'll find them in the next book to come.. Still it was well written, I enjoyed the family and faith element.

I was gifted a copy and my review is voluntary.

I really enjoyed this story. It is the 4th in the Main Justice series but you do not have to read the others to understand the story line, but after reading this book you will want definitely want to read the others in this series.

Great series!

Good read. Good characters. Only 4 books in but I feel like I’ve known the people for longer. More crime solving than a mystery. The main characters came to Christ early on the series so watching their faith develop has been interesting too

I enjoyed the entire series, but this was my favorite. I loved the way Eddie & LeAnne had to dig deep and trust God to work out their relationship. They both had to grow up, acknowledge their own selfishness, then trust God in the end.

It's hard not to like this character... for so many reasons... but his growing maturity makes him all the more likeable. However, I still like his old partner the best.

This was a good story and I enjoyed it.

Initially, it was strange to have this story told from Eddie's POV after hearing from Harvey in the other books.

I have become attached to these characters and will be sad when book 5, next, comes to a close.
