Max Gallo, en grande forme, signe un roman enlevé qui est aussi une leçon d'histoire. Car le parcours rocambolesque, tragique (et authentique) de Julia met à vif une terrible collusion entre vilains personnages, qu'ils soient du côté de Staline ou de celui d'Hitler.

About the author

He was a French writer, historian and politician.

The son of Italian immigrants, Max Gallo's early career was in journalism. At the time he was a Communist (until 1956). In 1974, he joined the Socialist Party. On April 26, 2007, the French Academy recorded his candidacy for its Seat 24, formerly held by the late Jean-François Revel. He was elected to the French Academy on 31 May 2007.

I thought it had everything for it to be a good book. But somewhere between the writing style, or the depressing outlook made it not enjoyable. I wanted to read about a woman perspective and life during that period. But somehow I was disappointed by the inability of the author to make Juli a unlikable character.

El plantejament és interessant. Tracta de la història d'una aristòcrata italiana que abraça la revolució Lenninista i acaba deportada a Sibèria i lliurada als nazis, passant per un camp de concentració..
La lectura se m'ha fet pesada per què m'ha semblat repetitiva i no he tngut la paciéncia per acabar-la.

Max Gallo utilitza la Història per a construir una drama centrat més en les persones que en la trama en sí. Les anades i vingudes en el temps compliquen una mica el seguiment de la història però donen més potència a la vessant personal.
