Tales of Vampires #1

The Vampire's Slave

Rate this book
It was late when Claire first heard the knock on her door - too late. Upon opening it she is met with a mysterious and beautiful stranger, who claims to have just moved in across the hall. She makes the mistake of inviting him in - not realizing that her life has just changed forever.

Claire quickly learns the man she has invited in is no man at all. He’s Eric Belmont - heir to one of the most powerful vampire families in the world, and a highly sought after bachelor.

Eric’s appearance at Claire’s door is no mistake. He’s been watching Claire for some time, waiting for her to reach her Red Moon. Claire may think she’s just a normal human, but she’s in possession of a rare and extraordinary power - she can breed with vampires.

Eric takes possession of Claire and escorts her back to the Belmont family castle. Here he begins the long and tantalizing torture of the human vampire mating ritual. It will be some time until Claire’s body is completely ready for him, and during that time Eric has to do everything he can to keep her safe from other vampires within the castle.

Little do they both realize, they are just a small piece of a much bigger story…

Tacky and tasteless. Starting with the title. 'Slave', really? How is that romantic at all. The typos are very, very real and all over the place. Another reviewer reminded me that the book starts out with Eric intending to rape Claire, using mind-control powers on her, and her eventually seeming to forget these transgressions and, worse, forgive it whilst melting in his arms. It's disgusting, but add it to the list, folks.

The dialogue that should portray each character's personality or manner obviously changes based on the writer's mood. Claire, for example, spends a few days in the vampire castle and all of a sudden sounds like she walked out of a historical drama. The extravagant and magical changes in personality, intention, and creed with no character-building at all are especially annoying; Novak didn't make me believe it when her characters had changes in their behavior and thinking.

Novak's characters are flimsy and flighty. Claire is a desperate mess of hormones rendered useless by the presence of an attractive vampire jerk named Eric. Again, there is literally no character-building. Claire just kind of gives into Eric, no matter how messed up his unapologetic family is.

The reader finds out Claire is pregnant with triplets before they even announce it when the writer has Veronica say, "I will give my life for these kids (plural), you have my word at that ".

Her characterization of Ezra wasn't really that bad...until she consistently described her only vaguely as "ebony" in skin color. Then had her traipsing through a jungle only to be killed by mysterious "elder" figures to be reborn or some mess. Okay, it was bad. Not to mention, Ezra is put in a "protector" role, the reason for her rebirth. Because Black women don't have their own stories, they only live to float around white people and play extras in their stories. *rolls eyes*

Ira has all this knowledge of the vampire families and is later made out to be the villain and knocked off. ....What?

Wraith gets a pass because, guess what, lil folks? He is possessed by a demon. This book is very busy with no real explanation for its cosmology. Everything was just, bam, right there. Its a patchwork kind of story, drawing on different themes and creatures of mythology with no intro.

Its a bad sign when I pick a book up and put it down repeatedly just to save the energy required to finish it out of sheer spite of giving up. This story has potential. Too bad its a fail. There are just so many things off about it that I don't have the patience to discuss its good points. Among many, one reason reading this hurt is because I like red eyes and dark hair.

Not even three pages in and I had to stop.

Terrible. Claire turns 18-and she complains that she has been praying for years for a man and a baby. But she just turned 18! I wasn't even past the third page and could go no farther.

DNF! Just no. Bad book. It took off at lightening speed. He's going to rape her yet she really turned on by this. So no thank you. No star, no rating.

There were parts of this book that broke my brain. They just didn't make sense, or perhaps because its such a short novel maybe there weren't enough pages to explain, but regardless this story has a ton of promise and I don't want to dismiss the whole thing on some writing inconsistency that irked the fuck out of me. The reviews dismissing this book based on it being too smut are fucking laughable, like what did you think you were getting into? Its called Vampire Slave... there will be fucking, says so in the title for fucks sake. Also, the smut is like missionary level, and honestly, I could have used way more vulgar fucking. However, 10 points to the author for waiting only two and half seconds after our MC (Claire) gets kidnapped to request anal. Absolutely hilarious.

The synopsis didn't sound terrible... unfortunately that's the only positive thing I have to say about this one. I didn't finish it, but I couldn't justify spending any more time on it and I wouldn't recommend anyone else waste their time either.

All for the steamy scenes. In mute

Chapter one alone the guy already declared he's a vamp without any hesitation or what so evah. Then the words " fertile servant for an agent of darkness.” come out to play, i can only cringe hopelessly. To add in, he can control her mind. Basicly forcing her to do his bidding, and while the O was great and she enjoy it very much because oh he was so handsome snd she's just this overweight 18 years old girl, it was straight up rap3.

All in chapter one.

The best of all chapter one? He have huge, massive wings.

First book of the series, and i wonder İF their world is so casual about vamps??

The steamy scenes are hot as long the H/h shut up.

200 and so pages and i can only survive 2 chapter

Horrible childlike writing

Where to start..I read 2-5 books a week, average books to really well thought out stories. This one was sub par. The sentence structure is abysmal and choppy. It was like reading a Dick and Jane first reader book. The plot..well..just wow. There is very little plot and what there is, is all over the place, there's no flow to the story. I had to check several times to make sure I hadn't accidentally skipped a page or two.

***warning*** Below I'm going to give you the plot...what there is of one****

It all takes place within two weeks; Claire is sexually assaulted by Eric the vampire whom she just let's in to her apartment because he's cute, he abducts her and takes her to his castle , falls in love, gets abducted by another vampire, saved by Erics brother and finally becomes pregnant. That's it. It's as if the author just wanted to write about a woman and a vampire having sex...oh and at the last moment thought to add a few sentences here and there so as to not make it one entire bedroom scene from start to finish.

You may ask why I read it to completion, I kept thinking surely it's going to get better, nope it never did. Bad, beyond bad. I'm just glad I have Kindle book readers monthly subscription and I would have hated paying for this book. I had downloaded the series.. I'm deleting them right after this review.

After reading some of the reviews for this book series, I was abit skeptical in starting. Now that I am finished with the first book, I'll say, it's not too bad. It's a paranormal romance with a HEA.

Claire is an eighteen year old human who wants to be wanted, by her family and men. Eric, a vampire who's been stalking Claire because she's a breeder for his kind. It's rare that breeders exist, and when Eric realizes that Claire is a breeder, he takes her against her will to his castle for protection.
Eric later finds out that allies to his family tries to take Claire from him. Though the bond between Claire and Eric is stronger because they have connected not just physically, but mind and spirit, it's makes the bond impenetrable. But in every war there are casualties.

This book was a good read, had a few errors and it took a while to get into it. But in all books we love a HEA.

I was disappointed

I was excited about a new vampire series.
This one begins with an 18 year old girl, who lives alone and has been working long shifts in a hospital for years and dreaming of having a husband and lots of babies.
I re-read that page three times to ensure I had that right.
Then she prays to God for a boyfriend and a vampire knocks on her door.
There is zero build up in this story. It is so unrealistic even for fantasy, that I had to stop reading it.

Ok I admit, I downloaded the book because the guy on the cover was hot, and it was about vampires. While I’d never “do” a vampire (if they were real, which they are not), I do find them completely sexy, but jaded and too cynical for my taste. But I digress. . . I’ll cut to the chase here, this book is awful. There’s the suspension of disbelief, and then there’s this book. Honestly, the FMC is firmly in TSTL territory. Vampire is still sexy though (unfair, I know).

Here’s the obvious points of contention to me;
1) She just turned 18 and she talks about all she’s ever wanted was a baby. Slow your roll there sweetheart. Live a little. Claire’s thoughts: “She’d wanted a baby more than anything for the longest time. Celebrating her sister’s amazing womb was only a painful reminder that Claire was single and very much not pregnant.”
2) She just turned 18 and she’s a nurse. Right. When did this prodigy begin her nursing education/training? When she was 15?
3) Eric charms his way into her apt, then compels her to remove her clothes and “assume the position” where upon he proceeds to perform oral on her even as she says no.
4) for whatever reason, they can’t have “normal” sex until she’s “ready for him.” Remember, this is one day later so she suggests anal. Uh huh.
5) while she may feel like her parents like her sister better than her, she’s not fully estranged from them. But once she reaches Eric’s lair, she makes no mention of them or her work. So what? She just fell off the face of the earth to them, and she doesn’t care?

Whatever. I honestly didn’t want to finish the book, it was that bad. HOWEVER, as bad as the writing was, I am intrigued with the overarching storyline. I noticed that this book has the lowest average rating of all the books in the series, and the rest actually have some pretty good ratings. So I’m willing to stick it out another book and see where we go from there. I have read other series where the initial book was the weakest of the bunch. Just never had one that was this bad.

I did skim a lot, but enough to keep up with the storyline. I am just not invested enough with these two characters to care about them.

Juvenile writing, boring sex, and a COMPLETELY misleading title.

1. A virgin who just turned 18 is a) almost 100% cool with being stolen, told they'll be impregnated, and kidnapped b) proposing anal sex that same day and c) has been yearning for children for years???

Come on, seriously? I mean romance novels are fantasy, but this is absurd.

2. Title is utterly misleading. There is zero domination and without the title you wouldn't remotely think she's a slave at all. One step slightly above vanilla and only because they had anal sex.

3. There is not an ounce of tension or anticipation in this book. She capitulates immediately and the book becomes a boring snooze fest within the first 5 pages. Although, there is a "twist" that you can see coming a mile away, so you might want to stick around and read the whole book!

4. I unfortunately thought I would like these books from the title and bought the bundle. Huge mistake!

5. The plot is not even worth mentioning.

6. The male character is so poorly written I forgot most of the time he was a vampire.

7. It's like someone who has never read a romance novel wrote this.

8. Being a female, this really feels inauthentic to me personally. Anal does not feel like this for 99.999999999% women! And if they say they it does, they're 99.999999999% LYING to you. And yes it's a fantasy book, but the sex doesn't stretch or strain the line of incredulity, it completely snaps it.

>Book Review – The Vampire’s Slave
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Tales of the Vampire series and ends in an HEA. Claire is a special kind of human, one able to successfully breed with vampires. Eric scents her out and kidnaps her to his family castle. Once at the castle, Eric battles all sorts of creatures and his own brother in order to keep Claire safe. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Eric and Claire. Eric used his powers of Influence to force Claire to disrobe against her will. Even though this is a paranormal story, some semblance of rationality must be present. In this story, Claire is kidnapped and there are no consequences or people wondering about her whereabouts?
>Eric does begin to care for Claire, but only for the reason of his good luck in finding a breeder. Eric’s brother has the most interesting backstory. I almost wanted him to fight his demons and claim Claire. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 4 stars.

Tropes and painful writing

I just couldn't make it past the first few chapters. Our weak as milk heroine is introduced to us complaining about her rounded figure and praying to God for a man and babies. Lots of babies. I should have stopped there. Then a stranger appears at her door, like three seconds later, he's hot. She invited him in. He throws her up against a wall informs her of her new place in life then takes control of her mind and sexually assaulted her. But it's ok because she's conflicted. Check two. Then he kidnaps her to his castle, yes castle. Second chapter. Cause all that crap happened in the first. She's there and cold so he gives her a bath, which he has to join and pleasure her more..... Suddenly she is now all on board with him while in the prior chapter it's no I won't have your demon spawn. Now it's suddenly if we can't go all the way this second can we at least do anal? Wtf? Yah this book is just not well written.

I received a copy of this free, based on the title and blurb I expected it to be “paranormal smut” which can be alright when you just need mindless reading.

Within the first 3 pages we learn that Claire has just celebrated her 18th birthday. She’s living alone and has wanted to have babies for years, but God has not listened to her prayers.

Then a beautiful man with pale white skin and ruby red eyes knocks on her door, and she says thank you Jesus.

I wish I could say things improved after that, but not much. The writing is very immature, there is no character development, there really isn’t even a plot. And this was somehow made into the series (??)

I didn’t expect a lot, but it still has to be entertaining. Try Cynthia Sax, or Lauren Dohner:)

I tried to go in with an open mind since most of the reviews are not good. The first half of the book is pretty bad. It gets somewhat better towards the end. It’s almost like the author had three different ideas for the story and characters and couldn’t decide which direction to take, so they just took some of each idea and threw them together and crossed their fingers. Plus, if I had to read the phrase “swallowed something stuck in their throat” one more time when referencing a character clearing their throat before speaking, I think I would have lost it. I’ve never seen a single phrase used so many times in one book.

I did see the reviews are better for the rest of the books in the series, so I am going to give them a chance and see how I feel.

I honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into, I didn’t pay much attention to the title, and it turned out to be a mess.

Nothing was believable. First, the just-turned-18 FMC complains about why she doesn’t already have multiple children. (Really?)
Then she gets assaulted and kidnapped by a hot vampire (of course), only to be immediately happy with the situation and burning with lust for him (sure).

Like… the author didn’t even try.

There was too much “plot” for it to be corn. The protagonists lack any real characteristics. I wish it had just been corn... minus the lapping and the daddy kink. Ugh.

If I hadn’t needed a quick read to meet my reading goals, I would’ve DNF’d.

Slow start but good

It took me several pages to get into the book. Idk why but I just couldn't get hooked. When I finally did get hooked I wasn't putting it down.
There's more than two books for the series so be forewarned if you don't like cliffhangers don't read these just yet. This one doesn't really end on a cliff, you know what happens to your main characters. The second book is a huge cliffhanger.
Idk if grammatical errors bother you, they don't me so I can finish the book. I know that a few errors here and there makes us humans. However, between both of them there are several. Its still worth the 4 stars on both in my eyes.

This book was nothing but how desirable, disgustingly sweet, pure, and innocent Claire is. Absolutely no substance, whatsoever. The beginning of the book was warning enough, but I just didn't heed the signs until it was too late. I DNF at 85%, but in my defense, it's a downright miracle I made it that far. I deserve a medal for wading through this disaster and coming out the other side alive, however scarred though I may be.

If you're looking to read something about nothing, this is the book for you. I'm really disappointed, because the premise of the story had great potential. Claire and Eric just ruined it for me. Prepare for nothing and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised?

Ok I had to force myself to get through the first half of the book, and many times I almost stopped reading it. This was not well written! But with that being said, i liked the brother a lot and had to know what happens to him, with that I say I'm glad you changed how you wrote the second and third book, they were amazing and a great come back. You took me with the next ones and they weren't bad at all like this one. Sorry but I could tell this one was all over the place and you weren't sure we're you were going with. I am glad the next two are amazing and can't wait for the 4th one.

Was this after I finished IT Lucas immortal series latest book, which are awesome. This book, however, needs a lot of help. I finished it scimming through most of the sex, I'm not a prude, but one of two descriptive sex scenes are nice, but it was 98% of the story with an occasional plot thrown on top. I agree with another reviewer Claire just turned 18years old and She has been waiting years to have a man and baby???!!!! If you want to read something without substance to for it, but not worth your time.

Not adding much other reviewers haven’t. Short read, and I feel like if I hadn’t desperately wanted to read something vampire, I wouldn’t have been able to finish it.
Dynamics were super weird, the FMC was very inconsistent (virginal, religious, 18yo desperately anting children, kidnapped but then immediately wanting anal sex was a bit much).
I think there were hints of a bigger plot but some of the action scenes were messy and it was hard to tell what was going on or whose perspective the chapter was in.

I got a few pages in and had to quit. I don't mind the pregnancy trope, it works in some books and not in others but being sad that your sister has an amazing womb whole you have been dreaming of having kids for years at the age of 18 is a little cringe. Also, living on her own and working as a nurse.....again at 18. I only know she is a nurse because I read people's reviews, I made it to him knocking on the door before I had to give up. She did talk about working stuff the hospital, the auther should of.made her a cleaner or kitchen staff...something more believable.

The sex scenes were something else as far as Claire was concerned. The reason I gave the book 3 stars was the fact that there were way too many literary mistakes made throughout the book. I really enjoy the vampire genre and this book gave Claire all her dreams and more. I think that's what I would like if I were in her shoes. The book was a very easy read. I'm hoping that book 2 will be a little more enjoyable with less misprint.

Geez, this was an intense book. Overall I really enjoyed the premise and the book. I was a little taken aback by the nonchalant way that the girl was kidnapped and kept without do much as a Mentone of her going missing or what would happen in the real world. She stated with Eric without even a care for her family or job. It all works out in the end, but I did find that part a bit unsettling.

Amazing story

Great details. Claire and Eric's romance is hot and sexy. I had to take away a star because supposedly Eric finds Claire on her 18th birthday, but she works as a nurse, has been wanting to have babies for YEARS, is jealous of her sister's baby shower on her birthday, and has her own apartment. Claire should be in her 20s and not 18. Sorry, but the math bothered me.
