Is your Christian life weighing you down? Navigator author and Bible teacher Cynthia Heald helps you get your second wind to identify and lay aside those burdens that make you feel stuck in busyness. With challenging insights and thought-provoking quotations from classic thinkers and writers, this book’s 11 sessions will help you develop the actions and attitudes you need to think differently about your self-worth and identity in Christ. If using in a group, personal study is needed between meetings.
CYNTHIA HEALD is a popular speaker and author of the Becoming a Woman Of . . . Bible studies, which have sold millions of copies. Her passion to help women walk more closely with God and live life to their full, God-given potential is seen in Drawing Near to the Heart of God. She and her husband, Jack, are full-time staff with The Navigators in Tucson, Arizona.
The book was what we used this summer for our Sunday school study. It probably deserves a better rating. The chapters are divided by laying aside hindrances, the old self, the past, pleasing people, bitterness, busyness, anxiety, doubt and fear, the flesh, the world, and discouragement. There were lots of Scriptures to look up and some good quotes. Teresa of Avila: "It is a great grace of God to practice self-examination; but too much is as bad as too little." Neil Anderson: "Forgiveness is agreeing to live with the consequences of another person's sin...Forgiveness deals with your pain, not another's behavior." Eugene H. Peterson: "Endurance is not a desperate hanging on but a traveling from strength to strength." The book was a reminder again that I want to finish well. Psalm 119:45 "I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts."
I needed to read this book. I will read it over and over. This is a timeless reminder how to step into the race, while laying aside all that would hinder your finishing. This book gives several Bible scripture references that will encourage you along the race. The race is more like an obstacle course and we must be equipped to meet those challenges and keep persevering. I believe this book will be useful for men and woman alike.
It's a quick study - I encourage you to take your time going through it. I spend a week on each chapter. I don't agree with everything but it does make me think. One of the few Navigators publications that I like. Plus there's a girl on the cover doing a cartwheel. Doesn't that just sell the book? ;-)
This was a wonderful, eyeopening Bible study. I think you could wait awhile and do it again and learn something new. I pray that through this study, I have become freer in the Spirit, and more able to allow the Spirit to work through me so that others may see Jesus in me.
I really enjoy going to my Bible study! They are such a great group of ladies! This book sparked a lot of great conversations but really stretched me with having to look up a lot of Bible verses and doing a lot of writing! Sign of a great Bible study!!
This is one of my favorite studies in the series. I think I've gone through it a couple times because the issues covered are ... tougher ones for me to deal with. A refresher is always good. :o)
This was my second study by Cynthia and I would recommend them without hesitation!! She has helped me deepen my relationship with Jesus and through many hard times.
It was so fun making this into a study with my friends!! Excited to start another of hers, leaves me with such a spring in my step and motivation to be the best version of who God created me to be.
Solid learning to focus and ground you. Personally the focus on not living just to please and see people's approval was freeing. Live internal/divine peace instead.
