A super interesting guide to help children and parents explore the world of bugs safely for both people and animals. A great way to do something outside and discover the living world and learn about new things. The book has clear, simple explanations with lots of illustrations.
I think I would also be great to help someone get over their fear of insects and spiders.

Kids are curious. Most kids will at some point be curious about bugs as well. And if your child is scared of bugs this book just may help them turn curious also.

Did you know 95% of the worlds animals are actually bugs. In this book Mississippi State University associate professor, extension entomologist (bug expert), and educator John W. Guyton team up to teach you and your child all things bug.

There are so many illustrations, photos, activities and facts about Bugs in this book it could turn anyone into a bug expert on a childs level. This is not some cutesy story it is true facts. The book teaches you how to dress to find and collect bugs. It teaches safety while finding and collecting, which is very important when dealing with bugs.

The book is broken down into chapters. It has the bugs put into type, it has science projects, t has collection tips and so much more. Great book for kids of all ages.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com to read and review.

There is so much contents in this books that the bugs lovers will have everything there need to learn more and explore those little insects. Where to find them, how to capture and observe them, how to make you're own equipment so you don't have to buy stuff, and many more. The book is for kids, but older one, around 10 maybe, because there is quite a lot of text and information in it, but if you have a kid around that age and he love bugs, this may very well please him. Well done!

I will be trying some of the activities out during the summer holidays with my nephew, as he likes looking for bugs.

Definitely worth having a copy if you have children or even work with children.

I'm not sure what I was expecting when I first saw this book but what I do know is that it wasn't what I thought I was getting - I know, clear as mud, but there you have it. With that in mind though this is a really comprehensive book for a beginner or intermediate budding entomologist.

This highly detailed book looks at safety as well as the identification and collection of bugs. In this respect, this book would be an ideal reference book for a science teacher. It allows for easy integration with occupational, health and safety requirements as well.

The photographs are fantastic visuals and show just how kids can get involved. They accompany clear activities that are presented well and can easily be replicated either in the classroom or at home - yes, we even tried a couple here but the rest will need to wait until spring as our winter weather is keeping most bugs at bay

A great book for looking at the scientific method. Great for children 8+ or as mentioned as a teacher reference book.

I didn’t expect to love BUG LAB FOR KIDS as much as I do, but what a cool guide for learning about butterflies, bees, beetles, centipedes, spiders, and more!

This colorful book is written by bug expert and educator John W. Guyton, a Mississippi State University associate professor and director of Arthropod Adventures, the oldest bug and plant camp in the world. Gee, I would have loved to go to a bug camp as a kid. BUG LAB FOR KIDS offers that experience right at home!

BUG LAB features an array of photos, illustrations, fascinating facts and fun activities — a perfect tool for getting kids stoked about science and nature. 5/5

Thanks to the author, Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry, and NetGalley for the review copy. Opinions are mine.

I was sent a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I may not be the biggest fan of bugs (and spiders), but this book is amazing! And great for instilling a passion for bugs in kids instead of fear.

This book offers you a lot of information about bugs without long paragraphs that might be found boring, but by giving you interesting facts and by featuring a lot of experiments that kids can do to understand and learn about bugs.

It was simply great!

Borrowed from King County Library System. One of the coolest library systems ever. This is why I love WA state.

Loved the book on bugs. Very educational. Safety protocols are enclosed at the start for kids and parents. Written for older elementary to high school. Could be for all ages. Gives you ideas for how to help bees find homes.

Lots of good activities for kids! I liked that it included ways to create some of the materials used in later lab activities, for example it had instructions to making a bug net that one could use to complete the bug catching activities.

If you have a kid who is interested in bugs, then Bug Lab for Kids is for you!

This book will walk even a novice bug-collector parent or teacher through learning where to start to more advanced techniques on collecting insects to how to preserve them. The book is set up as forty-three labs that kids can complete. The labs start with learning where to look, using sketching as a tool, and the scientific method. Later labs include photographing insects, making papier-mâché nests, creating a pollinator habitat, and more.

Bug Lab for Kids offers a variety of insect-centered activities and will keep kids busy and engaged! Perfect for summer!

A first rate book that both children and adults would enjoy and learn from. The book is written in a very easily read and understood dialogue, with lots of photographs and information provided in a logical manner.
In this day an age of computers it is nice to have a book that encourages and explains hands on approach to learning of our outside world.

Bug Lab for Kids by John W Guyton is a basic introduction to entomology, or the study of bugs, geared towards teaching kids. It's not just a book of information, but is packed with information related to all aspects of bug collecting. Several units focus on creating appropriate tools, such as a net, spreading boards, and kill jars. Then follows several units devoted to different orders, such as Lepidoptera, or butterfly, and Coleoptera, or nettles. Each of these has its own set of experiments and/or tasks. Later units discuss other types of arthropods. I even learned a few new things myself! I had no idea pillbugs were not bugs but land crustaceans.

Some of these experiments seemed a bit sadistic, though. Really, we wouldn't be encouraging kids to cut off mice tails, or to throw kittens in an alligator pen, so why encourage them to cut the halteres off of flies or throw moths into spider webs. Humane collecting I do not have an issue with, but those kinds of 'experiments’ I'm against. Thankfully, while many of our cubs were interested in learning about insects, they came to the same conclusions over some of these experiments that Jonas and I did. Recommended for those interested in bugs.
