Set amidst the last days of the Comanche wars, The Last Hunt continues the story of the Rivers family, whose fates are intertwined with the Comanche—and their great war chief, Quanah Parker—both personally and professionally. The decisions Quanah makes as the conflict nears its end will have a far-reaching effect beyond his Comanche nation, and the long-brewing showdown for Josh to reclaim his kidnapped son reaches its conclusion. In The Last Hunt, the third book of The Law Wranglers series, the stakes are high, and unexpected parties must forge paths of trust, friendship, and forgiveness in building their lives for the future.

Josh and Cal come up to the comanche camp and are welcomed
The people of their teepee Tabitha Jael and Michael their son are starving so they share their supplies with them. Jael promptly says to Josh that it's time for a father to teach the Sun how to hunt and to fire a rifle. So Josh takes off with Michael and they go north to the canyon to hunt for game and to practice hunting and target practice. Michael learns quickly and they soon fell a couple of deer and then a buck and a doe. They dress the meat and get it ready for those that camp when they find that someone is following them and Michael sneaks off to spy on who it might be. He comes back and reports it's a friend from the tribe and probably one that is Mama sent to watch over them in case they run into trouble so they invite him to come in for dinner and bring his ponies in. There's plenty to eat with all the venison so the brave is very glad to join Josh and Michael. And eat several helpings of venison.
When I signed up for Ron Schwab's The Last Hunt, I didn't realize it was the third book in a series. When I started reading it, I felt a little lost - if the first two books had been available at our library, I would've borrowed them to catch up - but eventually I pretty much caught up with the characters and the story. Judging by the other reviews I've seen, perhaps reading the first two still would've helped me connect to the story because everyone else who's reviewed The Last Hunt gushes about the book, the author, and the series. However, I found it sort of boring and quite predictable. For a novel centered around the final days of Native American freedom, an underexplored and crucial period of U.S. history, the writing was rather simplistic and lacked, I felt, emotion. In short, the story was good but the writing didn't do it justice.
This is an amazing book. Loved it! You know that when something accidentally happens, it is often for the best? Well, I got this for my husband's kindle and somehow it popped up on mine. (It's the white ghost thing) Anyway, I love this genre' and decided to read this story. It's fabulous!! I can't say how many times I made a sound like a gasp, or just wept, or got the Kleenex and read on. This book has happy times like meeting Michael; it has devastation like starving tribes of Indians; it has love between those of mixed races; and, most of all, it has a great storyline that few authors can match. Thanks so much for writing this series. (I'm going back and reading Books 1 and 2) This can be read as a stand-alone.
Mr Schwab's story, though fictional, was true to the story of Quanah Parker and an end to the major war between the Indians and the Whites. He wrote the story primarily from the viewpoint of the Rivers clan, but depicted the Comanch as the people they were.
The clash of cultures has been true throughout history. Many are remembered only as tales of long ago. The clash of the White man vs the Indian is close enough in history that the feelings have still not been resolved, and much of the actual history has been preserved by historians.
I recommend this book in the Law Wranglers series.
This is a must read for all you fans of western lore. A thrill on average page and a scant look at the plight of the American Indian...specifically the Comanche. I highly recommend this book. You will not be disappointed. So, Giddy Up. Be sure to read all there books in this series And I recommend you read them in order written. The Last Hunt is the third and last book of the series. Superb.
I have become more and more involved in this series rather than losing interest as in most series. I have already purchase the rest of the series. I have read accounts of Cynthia Parker's time with the Commanche, so this book held a special meaning for me. A good love story, family saga, and history of the heartbreaking theft of a great people's way of life. I loved every page.
After reading this entire series , I have to say that this is one of the best series ever. For those of you who are in doubt please know that you will not be disappointed if you choose to read this series. Great job you have done Mr. Schwab. He has other books he has written that you may want to consider reading as well.
Exciting and interesting story of family and friends in a time that Indians were a threat to homesteads and travelers.
Written well. The book was edited and the story flowed throughout. Sorry this tAle is over as I read all three books. Loved the story. Looked forward to reading d daily.
This was the third book in the Ron Schwab series. Simply outstanding. It is filled with adventure, Indian battles to survive, treachery, deceit and greed. All is offset by the ongoing and growing love of several characters. The end to the book is Heavenly and what the reader would hope for. A heartwarming old western history story.
Schwab writes so well that oft times the reader believes every word to be true historical fact, although this is indeed a work of fiction. All elements of great storytelling are extremely well developed, but only as the complete series of three novels unfold.
Fantastic historical fiction about the Comanche and what the American Government did to get them to relinquish their freedom. Some of my own ancestors were incredibly cruel, and most of all selfish. Mr. schwab is a great writer.
I enjoyed this series completely. Easy reading that moved along at a fast pace. Great action stories. Chapters were just the right length. I am going to search my kindle unlimited to find more Ron Schwab western novels.
Many of the characters in this book did exists and you can read about them in history. The entwined lives are fiction and make enjoyable reading. I have honestly enjoyed each of the books in this series and recommend reading each book.
Any that enjoys WESTERN stories will be Well pleased with this book. I read various books on different subjects but keep an unread western within easy reach.
I enjoyed all 3 of the books in this series. The insight portrayed into the life of the white captives, and how they became important members of the tribe, was interesting. I hope to read more of Ron's books.
I am very interested in stories of the West. Most of them are about therewith settlers. This story is more about a group of Indians and their facing of the end of life as they knew it.
I confess I have been a little backward in that I read his last books 1st. The series was not as good as latter books but I have really enjoyed this book. Beautiful story well written.
These books are very well written---not your basic pulp western. Not much going on in the courtroom. But characters & plot are believable and enjoyable.
I enjoy the history of this series. I feel that I am a friend to the characters. There is enough action & excitement to keep the story moving. Enough romance to be fun.
It has been awhile since I read these first two books. This third one is fantastic on its own. A true western. Heading to the forth book. My house will never get clean
