Selections from five Kate Greenaway favorites ABC book of an apple pie; scenes from country life; popular nursery rhymes; book of children's games; and day-to-day life of children and their mothers
This is a representation of Kate Greenaway's best work..."Under the Window" (1878), "Mother Goose" (1881), "Marigold Garden", (1885), "A Apple Pie" (1886), and "Book of Games", (1889). Kate was born IN 1846 in Hoxton, England, of humble origins, and lived a humble lifestyle. Her artwork in her books reflects that. Her books received international acclaim, but she avoided the public fame. Kate's work is simple, but reflects what it feels like to be a child. She uses great detail in her work; if you examine the children in her drawings they look so lifelike and detailed. So do the backgrounds. I remember reading her books as a child. Solomon J. Schepps says it quite well; "Like an English country landscape, Kate Greenaway's art has a feeling of eternal freshness to it. It is an art of childhood and springtime." I really loved this book!
