A MOM FOR HIS DAUGHTER is Ms. Gordon's most recent book. I finally obtained a copy, and enjoyed getting to know Marc and Fiona. The story was sweet, set in the cold, snowy, New York winter, and involved winter activities such as sledding. Stella, the daughter, seems a bit bossy, but she is three and some preschoolers are. Marc is a work-aholic, and Fiona is living out her baby sister's life--and death--in Stella. I was a bit surprised Marc's whole family took Fiona in as family, but it was sweet. It was more wife like than sister of the birthmom like. I can't explain that real well.

Anyway, an adorable wintery story for days that are too hot to handle (to cool you off) or to curl up with in front of a fire on a cold wintery day. I enjoyed it.

I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

Gordon created a beautiful story with the hero and heroine dealing with the past and a young child that is the center of both of their interests. I was drawn into this story from the start and kept turning to see what, how and when Marc and Fiona would find their connection. A Dad's Second Chance is filled with determination, pain, family issues, second chances with God's grace and love. I enjoyed reading this latest release by Gordon and look forward to reading more of her books.

Wonderful read of a workaholic man who lost his wife and now has an adopted toddler to raise. Along comes the sister of the child's biological mother. All she wants is to be part of the child's life as her aunt. God has other plans for the three of them. This story is well written and enjoyable. The author has done an excellent job of giving you a sense of heartbreak and the finding of a new love wrapped around the feelings and actions of a cute little girl.

God sets the lonely in families.
Psalm 68:6a

The synopsis on the back cover:
"Widowed single dad Marc Delacroix doesn't have time for surprises -- especially one like Fiona Bryce. Finding out that she's the biological aunt of his adopted daughter, Sella, is a big shock. While Fiona's commitment to the little girl appears to be genuine, Marc wonders if he can truly trust her -- or his own heart, which he vowed never to risk again. Fiona's eager to connect with the sweet young niece she never knew she had, but Marc seems determined to keep her at arm's length." Marc's and Fiona's shared love of Stella is going to be a bond that transforms their business relationship into a real family.

The little girl, Stella, is the center and focal point of the whole story. Other than having an extensive vocabulary for a two-year-old (!), she is a delightful and convincing character. Fiona is another character that I thoroughly enjoyed in this book. Her upbringing, her past challenges, and her motivations, decisions, reactions in the present made a lot of sense and were interesting to read.
I cannot say the same about Fiona's and Marc's relationship though. Going from a business partners to being married did not happen logically to me at all. I would have liked a more seamless development here.

However, the most important takeaway and encouragement for me was the simple truth that God will surround the lonely with a family. The unwanted baby, Stella, and her Aunt Fiona found their forever home with people who loved them. Beautiful!

A Mom for His Daughter by Jean C. Gordon is an enjoyable book. It's a good story about a widowed father of a three-year-old and the child's biological aunt. As a side note, I think the cover is really pretty with the pinks, purples, and snow.

Fiona had a rough upbringing and doesn't have any living family. Fiona is used to making her own way and not relying on anyone but herself. She is shocked and excited when finds out that she has a niece who her late sister gave up for adoption and she is willing to move mountains to be part of her life. Her niece's father, Marc, is someone Fiona knows from work. Fiona starts to have feelings for Marc as they begin spending more time together with her niece, Stella. Marc's family is a balm for Fiona and they represent something she's always wanted - an intact family - but it's hard for her to believe that they want to include her.

Marc finds himself attracted to Fiona before he knows she is his adopted daughter's biological aunt. Once Marc and Fiona start spending time together because of Stella, the line becomes blurred about whether he is spending time with her for Stella's sake or his own.

Stella is an adorable addition to this story. I think I smiled every time she called Fiona "Feena"!

This story didn't have as much of a faith element in it as I like, but it is a good story and if you like light, contemporary Christian fiction, I recommend this book.

Thoroughly enjoyed this visit to Paradox Lake and getting to know another member of the Delacroix family. This was a challenging story of Fiona, a biological aunt, wanting a place in her newly found niece's life. This was complicated by the fact that her niece Stella had already been adopted by Marc Delacroix and his late wife Cate. Stella has health issues that bring back memories of Fiona's late sister and her upbringing. Marc is still grieving his wife as well as trying to open a new restaurant. I liked the characters and could relate them. I thought the events seemed true to how the characters would react. I enjoyed how the author brought everything together.

Although there are several books set in Paradox Lake by Jean C. Gordon, they can be read separately or a series. The Delacroix family has many members so I am looking forward to future books. I was given a copy of this book by the author. The opinions are my own.

Could Marc and Fiona’s shared love of Stella be the bond that transforms their fragile connection into a real family? Her fear and knowledge of what killed her youngest sister cause a divide they can’t cross?

There's a lot of drama and sadness with a little romance thrown in...still good story, but gird up!

I totally understood Marc wanting to help his young adopted daughter to feel comfortable around other children. . . and his reluctance to include the child’s aunt in his daughter’s life. It’s difficult to trust — especially after you lose the people closest to you.

But of course when Marc and Fiona develop feelings for one another, we’re all rooting for them! After all, they both experienced so much pain and loss, and they certainly deserved a happily ever after story!

And I loved how Marc — and Fiona — push beyond their own comfort zones to do what was best for young Stella, even though Marc’s own mother discouraged him. Thank goodness his sister was there to encourage him to do the right thing.

Don’t miss this sweet story of happily ever after!

Happy Reading!

The story is about a woman who receives a letter stating that her sister has a child that she gave up for adoption. As she meets Marc Delacroix and his daughter, she feels that the child looks liker her sister, Mairi did as a child. Once she pursues finding out if the child is her niece, Marc feels that Fiona needs family and she works with his sister Claire, so she is introduced to his family in hopes that she can have help from his family, since it was verified that she is Stella's aunt. As time goes by, Fiona feels that she can break down some barriers with Marc.

If you want to know what happens, you need to buy the book. It was enjoyable.

A Mom For His Daughter by Jean C. Gordon. Widowed dad Marc Delacroix has a three year old daughter. Stella was adopted at birth. Stella has a hard time adjusting after her mother passed away. She doesn't like younger woman. She has allergies which they find out latter is why she has stomach problems. Enters Fiona Bryce claiming she is Stella's aunt. Fiona's sister gave the baby up for adoption just before she passed away. Fiona was out of the country when all this happened. She didn't know she had a niece. A romantic story with it's ups and downs.

What let this down and made me DNF it was how contrived it was the biological aunt just also happened to be the person coming to work with the father. Unnecessary detail that seemed unrealistic. This was a DNF for me.
