The craziest wedding...Bespoke wedding planner Callie Labeau has a reputation for embracing the crazy. The weirder the concept, the wilder the party, right? And her love of all things OTT is about to be tested - because the cyber-geek wedding Matt Paulson has asked her to organise for his brother sounds insane...the wildest time planning it! ER doctor Matt has come to New Orleans to lock down the plans. And working with the gorgeous Callie is just an added bonus! But with the city engulfed in a heatwave, the chemistry between them is getting more scorching by the day...and it's proving to be one seriously big distraction!
Callie Labeau is a wedding planner who does themed weddings in New Orleans. Matt Paulson needs Callie to plan his younger brother’s wedding, which is to be based on an online game--Dungeons of Zhorg. Matt’s brother Tommy, and Tommy’s bride-to-be Penny, are both recovering drug addicts. Matt feels a responsibility towards Tommy since their parents’ death when Tommy was still a teen. Since Tommy almost died from an overdose, Matt keeps a very close eye on Tommy. He still lives in his hometown in Michigan with Tommy, and is a doctor in the small town’s E.R. when he’d much rather work in a big city E.R. When things begin to heat up quickly between Matt and Callie as they work together planning the wedding, both decide to put the brakes on their relationship since neither is willing to make the move from their home bases, and they don’t think that a long-distance relationship would work out.
This was a really cute and sexy story, but also with some serious undertones concerning drug addiction. It featured an endearing cast of characters, and the planning of the medieval themed wedding was a lot of fun. I only wished that we got to know Tommy and Penny better and that they had been featured more throughout the story, since after all, it was their wedding that the story was primarily revolving around. I also would have liked to have felt more a sense of place in the story, with it being set in New Orleans. Besides that, I still enjoyed it.
I actually really liked this apart from the back story.
Just felt a little put off by the people getting married where both ex addicts and the brother wasn't letting them live for themselves and almost still holding their sins against them still. People make mistakes after all and they could let you down again but maybe they won't.
Also found her situation a bit shit. She made one teeny mistake. Not even a big one to me and her whole life is ruined and yet we have a kid that rapes another in college and he gets a slap on the rest. OKAY DOKAY. I am aware its just a book but the crime didn't fit the punishment and the constant reminders of one mistake.
New Orleans doesn't play as big a character in this book as the first in the series. Both characters have some serious hangups, but it is a nice side look at he emotional toll on family members of addicts. It is a good quick beach read type of book.
Callie is a successful wedding planner. When Matt wants to arrange the perfect wedding for his brother he knows who he should ask. That's why he's flying all the way to New Orleans to discuss his plans with her. He's asking her to pull off the impossible. She says yes, but there is a condition and that is that he needs to be there to make some of the bigger decisions. Matt is worried about his brother and his protective nature prevents him from doing the things he wants to do in life. Callie has made one single mistake and is still trying to make up for it many years later. Slowly they're becoming more than just the wedding planner and her client. What is it that they're sharing exactly? Don't Tell the Wedding Planner is a quick and fun read. There's a lot of chemistry between the two main characters. There are several sexy scenes and they were tastefully described. Even though this is supposed to be a light and easy romance there was some depth in this story. Something I hadn't expected at all. It was a very nice surprise. Nothing is simple and the main characters often have to step out of their comfort zone to keep up with the fast pace their lives have changed into, all because of one event. There's quite a bit of wedding talk in this book and it's all original. The weddings are themed and I liked the way they were described. This book is a great choice when you're looking for a nice read to brighten up a cold winter evening.
The first time Matt found his brother unconscious, Matt's heart broke. After rehab the third time he felt like leaving. And how could he be sure that rehab five had actually done anything the other four hadn't accomplished. Especially since Tommy was now in love with another addict. Either of them could drag the other down.
Callie had her own messes to deal with. The disappointment she'd caused her family that resulted in the loss of her scholarship and chance at law school. And when she saw any family, it was the topic of conversation. What of the fact that her EX is her best friend? She seriously needs a life, buts she's happy with her business and where the themed wedding business is going. She enjoys setting everything up and giving couples their happy ever after.
How can Matt and Callie have their own happy ever after? It takes some tough love from both their families and a bit of self introspection.
This was a very romantic story with some very real issues. I've enjoyed Aimee Carson's writing and story telling talent. Her characters are easy to love.
Carrying the burden of an addict can be tiresome and emotionally draining. You either spend your time enabling the addiction or trying to convince them to acknowledge the problem in the hope they will want to help themselves. The addict certainly doesn’t spend the same amount of time worrying about him or herself.
Matt carries that burden when it comes to his younger brother. He is always expecting him to fall back into old habits every time he comes up against any type of difficulty. It also doesn’t help that is brother is planning a wedding and intending to marry a fellow addict. Not exactly a recipe for success and staying clean.
Time to just let go and perhaps Callie is the right person to teach Matt how. Perhaps she can help him battle his inner fears and anxiety about his brother? If she can’t and he doesn’t let go, the two of them are going to go nowhere quickly.
This is a turbulent and funny romance with a serious sub-plot, with plenty of sizzling hot moments between Matt and Callie.
