Redemption Thriller #11

Ivy Nash Thriller # 5

As in many series to get a better understanding of the chain of events surrounding the protagonist past, it is always preferable to follow the reading order but since each book features a different story there is no trouble to start here, “In Control” works pretty well as a stand-alone.

I like this one the best and by far. The story is more exciting and thrilling read than the previous books in this series. It opens with what appears to be a kidnapping and as the story develops from a steady pace into a fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping tempo when Ivy discovers there is more to the case than she thought. Things get even more complicated when she finds herself embroiled in another case involving her best friend. At first, the two threads appear unrelated but as Ivy digs deeper this is not what it turns out to be. Either is going to cause Ivy a few headaches……

Mr. Mefford did it again with his great storyline that kept me on my toes from start to finish, with the well-developed characters playing excellent roles in this multiple plot twists adventure, with the way he has intertwined his two stories and most of all how he pulled me into an international drug trafficking ring, professional hit and one cover-up after another.

This book is full of suspense and hard to put down.

Knowing that this is the next to final book in the Ivy Nash thriller series, I was quite sad when I started reading. Thankfully, John has a way of gripping you tightly and pulling you down deep into a story that you can't stop reading. The intensity builds with the turn of each page. Ivy gets deeper into an investigation than she's ever been before. She is on the verge of getting too far down that she'll never be able to be "IN Control" again! I thought I was getting close on closing my conclusions during this story; however, the twists and turns kept me guessing all the way through the final words. The fake kidnappings and drug ring investigation end up being twisted together and I lost my way in the thriller trying to put the mystery pieces together.

I'm not looking forward to the series ending; however, I am anxiously awaiting the finale that Mefford has planned for Ivy -- I know it's going to be HUGE!

I received a book for review. As with most of these stories, there are two mysteries going on at once. Ivy is looking into the kidnapping phone call that Megan received that turned out to be fake. And, she has been asked to look into the background of her best friend’s fiance Zeke who is thought to be involved in a drug ring. Simple as these both look from the outside, there is so much more going on in both of these cases. I love the John Mefford books because there are so many twists and turns. Just when you think you know what’s going on, something happens and you realize that’s not it. The ending totally blew me away and was nothing like I expected. While you don’t have to read the previous books to enjoy this one, I really recommend you read all of the books in the series. Cannot wait for the next one!

I love John Mefford. I love his thrillers and I recommend him all the time to my friends looking for new reads.

I have to admit, I was slightly disappointed with IN Control. I felt there were too many players, too much going on that even after finishing the book, I am not 100% sure who was linked to who and what. I felt a lot going on but a lot of confusion.

The thrill and suspense, in my opinion, wasn’t as intense.

Spoiler Alert if you haven’t read the previous books…

With Milton being arrested in the last book, I was wary how this book would go – there is no one after Ivy now.

Don’t misunderstand me – this was still a good book. There was action, there was suspense. It lacked a little but not enough for me to not still love and highly HIGHLY recommend John and his awesome books.

I look forward to what comes in book 6 and seeing how the series closes out.

Every book I have read by this author has been a treat for me. Since starting the Ivy Nash series, I have found myself on an extensive roller coaster ride with no apparent let up in sight. When I heard IN Control, which is book 5 in the series, was releasing I was eager to get my hands on a copy. You may be wondering, since this is a series, can each book be read as a stand-alone? Yes, as each book features a different case. However, to get a better understanding of the chain of events surrounding Ivy’s past then it would be best to follow the reading order.

Like the previous books in the series, IN Control was an exciting and thrilling read. The story began with what appears to be a kidnapping, but as the events, unfolded Ivy would discover there was more to the case than she originally thought. Just when she thought, things could not get any more complicated she finds herself embroiled in another case involving her best friend. At first both case appear unrelated, But the more Ivy digs she would realise both cases are connected.

The story started out with a steady pace, but as it progressed, it slowly developed, culminating in a fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping end. It may not have been as fast paced as the previous books, but there were aspects of the story that were intense and thrilling.

Secrets, both past and present drove the plot. These secrets had not only personal implications, but also national and international. These secrets had the propensity to hurt many persons in ways they may never recover from. Ivy found herself enmeshed in this nest of secrets. It is not a place she wanted to be, but if it meant keeping her best friend safe, she would suck it up and do what she had to do.

This is not of one of those mysteries that is easily solved. Every incident that occurred took me by surprise. It kept me guessing until the end and there were aspects of the story that kept me on the edge of my seat.

As usual, Ivy has proven to be a fearless, perceptive and determined heroine. Once she takes on a case, she puts out all the stops to ensure her client’s satisfaction. The supporting characters played their part in helping to move the story along. I had difficulty separating the villains from the good guys. It had me wondering who was in control. Characters from the Alex Troutt series provided assistance in this installment.

However, although I enjoyed this installment, a few things did not sit well with me. I can’t go into all the issues as this would lead to giving away the story. However, I can state the main issue I had. This had to do with the kidnappings. I am not clear about how Ivy discovered the identity of the mastermind behind the kidnappings. I was surprised to see her questioning a character who never appeared until that moment. That aspect of the story lacked fluidity and left me scratching my head as I tried to figure out what went down.

Conclusion/Recommendation

This is a great addition to the series and I can’t wait to see what is next in store for Ivy and her friends. If you are a fan of engaging mysteries that will take you on a roller coaster ride, then you will enjoy this series.

Every new book by John W. Mefford is a treat - and this one is no exception with a plot that is as complex and satisfying as the previous books in the Redemption Series of Thrillers featuring his other detectives such as Alex Troutt.
Mefford is starting to pull the strands of his thrillers together and you can sense that they are building up to a climactic finish involving all the crime solving characters we have come to love.
Ivy is back and this time her case is uncomfortably close to home. Could the fiance of her best friend be all that he says he is? Or has he links to a nefarious underworld where a psychopathic drug lord rules the roost and doesn't care who he hurts?
Supported by her chopsy but lovable side-kick, Cristina, Ivy also takes on the case of the kidnappers who fake child abductions to get their hands on the money - but where exactly are they getting their information from and how do they know who to target?
There is even an appearance from Alex Troutt's partner Nick and Alex herself makes her presence felt.
Ivy is potentially Alex's equally ballsy and intelligent younger partner and putting the two of them together is going to make a very enjoyable read.
Like all the previous thrillers, In Control can be read as a stand alone novel, but if you don't read the back catalogue and immerse yourself in Mefford's world of crime, you really are missing out.

I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Ivy and Cristina are helping a new client, Megan, with a case involving child abduction. The parents must wire transfer large ransom amounts in hopes of seeing their child again. She learns from Stan that they have several related cases across the state, and that his cousin, Nick, with the FBI, is working the case as well.

Ivy then gets a visit from her best friends father. He insists that she investigate Zahera's new fiance'. He needs her to find out if he is involved with an international drug dealing ring. How can she do that? Zahera would never forgive her.

Ivy is thrilled to learn that Cristina's favorite teacher, is actually the daughter of her favorite teacher from high school ... until she learns about her connection to a case she is working.

Ivy has many irons in the fire in this story. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I will say that it is an action-packed thriller from beginning to end. The author’s story telling skill has you riding an emotional roller coaster full of twists and turns.

If you like reading thrillers, read this book. If you like reading series, read this book. If you like reading stories with strong, inspiring women as the main character, read this book. As you have probably guessed by now, I loved this book and highly recommend it.

4 STARS … I can’t wait to read the next book in this series :)

Well, if you have been paying attention, you know that I have read and reviewed all of the other books in this series so far. And guess what? I am already signed up to review the next one! The reason is because I have definitely been drawn in by the character of Ivy Nash and can’t wait to see what happens with her next, because of course there is ALWAYS something happening with her! I read this book quickly, because it was so enjoyable and I didn’t want to put it down. And FYI, you don’t have to have read any other books in the series to pick this one up, although it wouldn’t hurt.

Although the bad guy that had been tormenting Ivy in the last few books is supposed to be gone, I kept expecting him or someone associated with him to maybe make an appearance, but that didn’t happen. However, the twists and turns that are so characteristic of Mefford’s writing kept me drawn in. My only “problem” with the book was one sentence that referred to Stan “suffering a decapitated arm a couple months earlier.” So…. an arm can be amputated, but only a head can be decapitated. That only threw me off briefly though.

The next book is the final book in the series, which makes me a little sad, but I am looking forward to seeing how Mefford pulls everything together.

I just finished putting down IN Control for the final time. This is a book that I read in less than three days while also working, watching football and spending time with my boyfriend. I had problems putting the book down but that could be because I have been invested in Ivy Nash and her co-worker, Christina, and her friends, Stan and Zahera, since the first book of this series. Does this mean you have to read all of the books? No. Each is a great standalone but the entire series is amazing.

This particular book starts off oddly. A woman thinks her daughter has been kidnapped while she is actually with her husband. The twists and turns that come up in that one simple plot amazed me. They wrapped around every other part of the book, including the other plot line of Zahera being engaged. I am absolutely amazed at how John Mefford pulls these plot lines together and makes it totally believable.

I definitely think you should pick up IN Control, along with all the other Ivy Nash books. While you are at it, pick up a few of Mefford's other books as they all never disappoint. I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

An entertaining suspenseful and mysterious adventure!

IN Control is a fast-paced suspenseful thriller that is your typical John W Mefford novel that you come to enjoy. A well-written story that is easy to read and follow with an intriguing and distinct plot. There are so many twists and turns that you will wonder if what you thought is a possibility or is it another twist in the story. There is a lot of action and suspense that keeps you second-guessing yourself. The characters are well developed and engaging. John does a great job of intertwining the different characters from previous books in the series throughout.

Once again, John has written a superb book! I have read several books in this series by John W Mefford. I am never disappointed in his writing and know that when I pick up one of his books I will be thoroughly entertained. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out so that I can be entertained by another mysterious adventure. I recommend IN Control to anyone that enjoys reading suspense/thriller mixed with crime.

I’ve got to be kind of honest and say that I’m sad that this series only has one book left. I’ve enjoyed Ivy Nash series so much! One of my biggest fears is getting a phone call saying that someone has my kids that isn’t supposed to have them and in IN Control, Megan goes through this. It took maybe 1 paragraph at the beginning of this book to know that I wasn’t going to put it down and would likely read it in 24 hours or less, and that is exactly what happened. I was confused as to how Megan and Ivy’s stories would mesh at the beginning but then it became pretty clear a little in the book. I’m going to say it, just like everyone else is, the Ivy Nash series just keeps getting better and better. This book is probably one you should read the previous books in the series before you read this, but it’s not necessary! Keep in mind if you read this one first, you WILL want to go back and read the previous 4 because they’re just that good and you will be hooked!

Another great book from John W Mefford. In Control really made me think, I really thought I had it figured out about half way though the book, but I really had no idea. The book starts with Ivy finally having an office for her business, she's happy and ready to take on the world, then the crazy starts. Her best friends dad wants Ivy to Investigate his daughters fiancee. A potential client takes down a sign in front of Ivy's office because she drunk and that all happens at the beginning of the book. Oh did I forget to mention the faked kidnapping that resulted in a lot of money being taken?

I recommend this book and the other books in the series to anyone who loves a good thriller and is looking for something that will entice them, make them not want to stop reading and make you think a little as well.

This one will keep you guessing----who is the bad guy and who are the good ones? The answer will surprise you as will the convoluted lies over the years. Are the kidnappings real or fake? Who is behind all this--and more important--WHY?

This book will truly grip you in more ways then one. I'm afraid to say much more or I might give something away--Now you know I would never do that!!

You really have to go get this book-or if you are real lucky you will be one of the 3 to win it!

Ivy and her friends have had a really rough time over the past several months, and they're finally getting back on stronger footing. Z has even found love and is thrilled with her life.

Then Zahara's father visits Ivy and asks her to look into her fiancee, and a mother asks Ivy to look into a series of fake kidnappings. But can she survive this series of events? Will their friendship survive the heartache that is coming?

Mefford has does it again with this story! It's gritty and fast paced, and I'm obsessed with his characters.

I have to say that John W Mefford is one of my favorite authors when it comes to thrillers. His new book is IN Control, which is the 5th book in the Ivy Nash Thriller series. While this book is part of a series it is a great stand alone read.

This book really had me on the edge of my seat. This book deals with what I believe is a mother’s worst nightmare, the kidnapping of a child. This book was so captivating that I could not put it down. I read it in 2 days. This book has non-stop action and kept me wanting to see what happened next. If you’re like me and like thrillers, you have to check out this book.

Holy Moly! Our gal, Ivy Nash, is getting hit with one thing after another. A faked abduction and then a little background check for a friend turns up some difficult things. Like usual, Mefford brings mystery and excitement to his readers with vivid and true to life characters. The truth is, from the moment I turn the first page, I am held captive by this author. It is full of twists and surprises!

This is one of my favorite thriller series by far! It is always something fun and different when it comes to Ivy Nash. Always having to solve a hard case. This time a child is kidnapped and Ivy is on the case. She is able to hold herself together while looking out for her friend and trying to solve the kidnapping. Ivy is such a great character because she is strong and confident. There are some characters in this book that are from Alex Trout series I have read in the past. This is so neat because I know who they are. Even if you had not read the series you will understand the characters. I loved this book and looking forward to next one!

There is one glaringly, awful, horrible thing about this book: it ends! I absolutely LOVE the Ivy Nash series, and John Mefford has once again managed to top himself with this installment in the Redemption series. There are so many unexpected twists, turns, and heart pounding moments that you'll forget you're reading a book and not in the middle of a thrilling action movie. So take control and grab this book, then buckle up for a wild ride!

In my last review I said that I hoped that, with Ivy’s tormentors captured or dead, we could move on to a new part of her story…one that wasn’t quite so Last House on the Left. And, I got my wish!

At last we started to pull out of the death spiral of Ivy’s past and bring in some new people, new action, new concerns. We also took some threads from past books that felt like they were going somewhere, and now they did. There are still a few loose ends hanging out there, but I expect that those will tie up in the last book.

I am going to reiterate that I think that someone should be talking to Ivy and Christina about therapy, counseling, medications—something. One of Ivy’s comments made it sound like it’s only been about a year since her first abduction, and the cracks are starting to show, but there has to be a price to pay psychologically for what she’s been through.

I’m not sure that I entirely followed the last part of the book, when all the puzzle pieces were slotting together, and I definitely don’t understand how Ivy figured out how one of the characters figured into the plot. Some of it could be intuitive leaps of logic, but there seemed to be some gaps in the information that would have been necessary to make even the broadest jumps.

I also could have just missed something.

There were also a couple of false notes to Z’s part of the story, and even though that plot was presented as being completed, I have a feeling that it’s not quite done yet. I’ll have to see in book six.

Ivy is finally free from the sadistic Milton Weber, and has just settled into her new ECHO office space, Christina is still attending school and her relationship with Saul is moving along nicely. Could this possibly be a nice and easy ride of a book for Ivy? Ha! Don't be daft! Nothing is ever simple for Ivy and when she takes on two seemingly unrelatable new cases it soon becomes apparent that they will or may cross at some point - how? well you need to read this book to find that out!

One of the cases involves Zahara's father - Z is Ivy's best friend - who asks her to investigate her new fiance, and you just know that something is going to go down in this book that will hurt a lot of people, but how the two cases are entwined will actually throw you into a depraved world of child kidnapping and much worse!

Honestly each book in this series just keeps on getting better and better! What is going to happen next for Ivy is anyone's guess, but I really don't want this series to end! It was good to get more on the connection between this series and the Alex Trout series as this involved more help from Nick - Stan's cousin and partner with Alex in the FBI.

I am not sure if am ready for the next book IN the End, as I am not ready to give up Ivy just yet - I thought I loved Alex but her and Ivy are on most definitely on par!

In this edition of the Ivy Nash thrillers, Ivy has a new mission. There’s a series of fake kidnappings and she needs to find out who is behind them. The crimes involve hacking and, of course, kids are in danger. At the same time, her best friend, Zahara, has a boyfriend who may be into something shady. Z’s father pulls Ivy in to find out if Zeke, the boyfriend is working for a drug lord and putting his daughter in danger.
While the Ivy Nash (IN) thrillers are a series, they can each stand alone, as this one does as well. As usual, there are lots of supporting characters, and Alex Troutt from the AT series shows up, but only by mention. Her usual detective cohort on the local police force also aides her as Ivy and her sidekick, Christina, unravel these crimes while the murder and mystery continue to mount.
John Mefford is doing an amazing job giving us a complete character in Ivy Nash. Her character has developed exponentially, and we now see even more complexity in her role outside of the ECHO organization she created after leaving her job with social services. I can’t wait to see how much more she evolves in future IN thrillers.

Well, what can a reader say when words won’t cover how great an Author like John W. Mefford is?
EXCELLENT!! In Control can be added to the great books of reading. Filled with deepening characters who grow in each book from all their experiences and Ivy Nash has captured my heart because she is tenacious in her passion and endeavors to protect the innocent children. And she does it with FLARE. Although we are captivated with a story, we are never left to realize that what is at stake is HUGE...the lives of children. That lends a great redeeming social value to his books as well as his wonderfully skilled writing does. When a talent like John Mefford comes along, the reading world NOTICES. You will definitely notice with In Control. How he can keep producing such fine reading, at one time was a mystery to me, until I realized it is because he is a great talented writer who is not going to disappoint his readers no matter what book he writes. So I highly recommend you get on board and grab a copy and meet up with a talented and skilled writer who never fails to deliver what the reader wants every single time every single book. Ivy Nash was a wonderful vehicle to deliver that news. GO JOHN MEFFORD!!!

The Ivy Nash series keeps getting better, hard to believe, but the characters are wonderful, the plots intriguing, and there are enough twists and turns to mess up a bloodhound! This story will keep you turning pages until the end, because you can never just guess what will happen. Ivy, in her PI Agency for children,ECHO, gets two different cases at almost the same time. One is from her best friends' father, as he asks Ivy to please investigate his daughter's new fiance,Zeke. The second case arrives with a literal bang in front of her office, as a woman was tricked into believing her child had been kidnapped and sent $50,000 to the kidnappers. Let the fun begin, as quickly plans are made and interesting things start happening! The story is fast-paced, with incredible scenes in which you feel yourself, as forces work to pull together to keep everyone safe. This book can easily be read as a standalone, but is so much better if you have read of Ivy's earlier cases. Love this series and hope author John Mefford keeps on writing them, as he surprises me every time!

This is by far the best of the Ivy Nash books, the best of the 'Redemption' series, and one of the best books that I have read this year! The plot is so clever and original that it is almost impossible to predict where it will head next. The opening is simply breathtaking with a mother being told that her young child has been kidnapped, the threats and the mother's reactions are so convincing that it makes the blood run cold.
From there things go from bad to worse for Ivy, her best friend Zahera and Ivy's young protégé, Christina. This book lacks some of the physical violence that defined the early Ivy Nash books, but the psychological abuse and sheer terror experienced by the various characters throughout the book are frighteningly realistic, and for just as effective.
On a lighter note it was nice to have characters from the Alex Troutt series making a 'guest appearance'.
I can't wait to see where this 'Redemption' series goes next, it looks like it's going to be a wild ride!

As Ivy gets settled in at her new ECHO office, she takes on a case involving fake kidnapping. It seems that parents are tricked into paying to get their children back, when they in fact, have not been taken. Ivy’s client is an alcoholic that keeps causing trouble for herself. Ivy does her best to keep her out of trouble, with little success. While trying to get leads on the crooks, Ivy also gets guilted into investigating her best friend’s fiancé causing her stress level to skyrocket.

It’s high strung, fast paced, non-stop action Ivy Nash style. I don’t know how she gets into as much as she does without trying. This series keeps me guessing with each crime adventure it dishes up. I love Ivy’s character and personality. It is entertaining, and I love reading the Ivy Nash/Alex Troutt crossovers. The characters blend in with each other so well. I’m really going to be sad when the Redemption Thriller Series ends.

Once again, author John W. Mefford has delivered an amazing story in the Ivy Nash series. Honestly, I can’t get enough of this series. This book In Control is the fifth in the series and can be a stand alone but I highly recommend reading the entire series because you won’t be disappointed.

In this book Ivy Nash and her one employee Christina, caught up with a client who’s child was kidnapped but really wasn’t. Someone was just “fake kidnapping” to get the money. Along the way, Ivy’s best friend, Zahara, gets herself involved with someone who is a little questionable about his line of work and if he was involved with a drug trafficking group. Ivy ask for help from her friends Stan and Nick to help her out in finding exactly what is going on. The book has everything going for it; mystery, suspense, drama and little bit of fun. I highly recommend this book and every book in the Ivy Nash series. You won’t be disappointed.

Wow, the best Ivy Nash Thriller yet. In this 5th book of the Ivy Nash thrillers, Ivy is forced to choose between a fine line of being a loyal friend and protecting someone close to her and in the process she is pulled into an international investigation that threatens the lives of so many. Is she in over her head this time? Guess you will have to get your copy to find out. You will not regret it. This book introduces some unique story lines and dangerous situations that keeps the reader guessing how it will all play out.

Favorite part was seeing Ivy in a broader role outside of her typical ECHO job to protect kids on a individual basis, while in the end she was still protecting more children than she could ever imagine. This book showed the breadth of character like none other. My least favorite part and only somewhat negative thing I can say is that the book does have swear words but thankfully they are not prevalent. Highly recommend.

"Better to be lucky ..."
Ivy Nash is finally free of Milton Weber, the sadistic monster who has tortured and terrified her, but the price has been high for her friends as well as herself. But those friendships have endured and now she and her young colleague, Cristina, can think of finding office space for her growing company, ECHO, dedicated to helping young people, whilst best friend, the extrovert Zahera, is madly in love and planning to marry. But nothing is really what it seems...
This very fast moving and intriguing story from the excellent John Mefford is the best Ivy Nash so far and the reader is even treated to reunion with news of old favourites from the earlier series. But this is still a stand alone novel which anyone enjoying well written mystery thrillers should enjoy. Recommended.

John Mefford never fails to deliver a captivating thriller. As usual, when I read his novels I cannot peel my eyes away from it. I really love his series!

Ivy Nash is a strong, well-developed character who I look forward to with each book I read. As Ivy works tirelessly trying to figure out who’s behind the kidnapping scheme, she keeps us on alert to find out what happens next. This book is full of suspense and it’s not something I could put down. You won’t regret reading this novel….it’s a must-read for everyone who loves thrillers.

This Author has been a favourite of mine since I’ve started reading this series.
