This pot of gold could hold more than they bargained for…
Grand. Just grand. Clara Donovan’s failure to keep her brother from going off the rails—again—is a public spectacle. Including a handsome stranger who puts down his guitar case to help her talk Seamus down from Farthing’s tallest bridge.
Everything about Danny Brady reminds Clara how many times she swore she’ll never again be that pathetic, weak woman who got taken in by a good-looking man. Especially when, the next day, she walks into a new coffee shop in her little Irish town and discovers Danny’s secret.
Danny didn’t lie—technically—about his coffee shop chain. He’s just tired of women going after him for his wealth. Clara is a graceful, fiercely loyal, non-Irish Irish damsel in distress, a combination that tugs at his heart. A heart that’s spent its share of time in pieces.
Danny has never hesitated to go after what he wants, but melting Clara’s defenses will take more than hot tea and charm. He’ll have to prove he’s made of stronger stuff—even when her past threatens to tear her carefully reconstructed world to shreds.

As I was reading the story I could hear the Irish accent in my head. A very moving and emotional romance story. Clara has issues from her past that she needs to deal with plus trying to help her drunk brother. Can Danny help her get over her past so she can move on with the future? Read the story to find out.
Clara Donovan is a tough Irish woman who will do anything to take care of those she loves including stealing as a child to feed her fellow hungry orphans, climb a bridge to rescue a suicidal brother, and work to pay off the debts that same brother has racked up. Danny Brady has worked his way out of poverty with drunken uncaring parents to become a successful business man. He falls for Clara quickly, but when there is financial trouble with his business and he learns about her prior arrest for theft he accuses her thinking she might have has something to do with it along with her brother. Add in Clara’s abusive controlling ex who has recently been released from prison and is threatening her and this story had a lot of drama and high emotions. I loved that Clara enjoyed teaching dance to young children and all she wanted was her own dance studio and that Danny enjoyed singing even though he couldn’t do it very well. Both characters were flawed which made this Irish romance more real and interesting.
I loved the Audible narrator with her Irish accent and pronunciations and all her emotional and enthusiastic inflections. She kept me interested in the story and made me dream of visiting Ireland someday.
This is the beautiful contemporary Irish romance of Clara Donovan and Danny Brady. They meet when Danny follows Clara up a precarious bridge to stop her brother Seamus from committing suicide. Although neither is interested in a serious romance, both having had bad experiences that soured them on love, their attraction to each other is undeniable but the difference in their social status may be an insurmountable barrier. Danny is a millionaire entrepreneur devoted to his coffee shop empire while Clara lives hand-to-mouth supporting herself and her brother.
Josie Riviera developed her characters with emotional interactions that are poignant and relatable. It is a well- written clean romance that gave me hours of enjoyment. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary. I loved this book!
I loved being whisked off to Ireland for a while as I read this book. The setting was vivid. The characters were great. The romance was tender and sweet. I really enjoyed the book!
I really liked Clara. She had been through so much, and had come through it with such strength. I really admired her. I also loved the way she saw the best in everyone. Sometimes it was at the expense of reality, but I still appreciated her desire to see the good in others.
Danny was very successful, but still humble and generous. He grew up in a difficult situation, and used that as motivation. I loved his philosophy for his cafés. He had a good heart, which came through in everything he did.
This book dealt with some difficult situations: abuse, suicide, alcoholism, poverty. Unfortunately, these are things that touch many people’s lives. The author handled them very well. My heart ached for all those involved.
The book was great! I always enjoy Josie Riviera’s books, and it was no different with this one. I’m looking forward to her next one!
I received a copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.
Oh my but I am completely in love with a new to me author Josie Riviera!!! WOW just WOW Oh Danny Boy is just Absolutely Phenomenal!!! Clara and Danny will be forever ingrained into my heart. This was my first book by this wonderful talented author but it definitely will not be my last. Josie Riviera you Rock the Author World!!!
Take a delightful trip to Ireland. There are many heart-breaking moments, but also lots of joy. A sweet romance. Interesting back stories. Blind spots when it comes to family, which is normal. The book was a gift for which I am grateful for having the opportunity to discover this charming author.
Oh Danny Boy is an intense, emotional , heartwarming love story that includes a hard look at alcoholism and suicide. Do not let that stop you from reading this wonderful book because it is the main characters family members who suffer from these afflictions. Ms. Riviera manages to deal with these issues without having them be depressing. Clara meets Danny in unusual circumstances. Both Clara and Danny have worked hard to overcome issues from their pasts. This book is an amazing tale of fear, forgiveness, happiness and love. I could not put it down.
I listened to the audiobook of this story and the narrator was just wonderful. Clara Donovan has had enough trouble with men, especially her brother who was standing on the highest bridge in their small Irish town, thinking of jumping off. Then a stranger appears, Danny Brady, and he wants to help her. They finally talk him down and Danny gives Clara his card, if she needs anything else. Her brother needs help, he is a drunk and his wife died not to long ago. Clara is doing the best she can and with her sister Anna they go to the new coffee house in town, finding out it's Danny's. Again she is taken in by lies. She thought he only played his guitar there, not the wealthy owner. They both try to get past his wealth and begin a friendship. This book is magical, heartbreaking and touches your soul. Follow the path to a pot of gold.
Well written love story based in a small town in Ireland. I loved everything about this story! Well defined characters and a story with a twist here, a turn there, kept the pages turning. I have yet to read a book by Josie Riviera that I have not loved, definitely recommend this one!
This story has serious moments and some very sweet moments all adding interest to this story. There are lessons to learn and learning forgiveness which in turn allows some wonderful character growth. I enjoyed the story with all its up and downs drawing me until the story ended. There is mild innuendo and language but does not distract from the story line overall.
Oh Danny Boy is a fierce, tug at your heart journey that will both mesmerize and capture your very soul. This is a raw and very real story about life and its myrid of struggles that never seem to let us go. With each step we take, they try to mire us more and more into the mud of sadness and loneliness. It's only with the gentle and loving help of others with equally tender hearts and broken souls who can rescue us even if we don't want to be rescued. They have to quietly lift the veil from our eyes of what is and could be. No one realizes the power that we have in another's life until we begin to see real change and hope seep through their smile and actions. Every word we speak can either help or destroy our friends and neighbors and strangers.
What a soul searching journey this story turned out to be! It tore at my heart strings until there was nothing left. I felt raked over the coals because this could easily be someone's real life, and I hate seeing someone mistake misery for a normal life. However, sometimes it takes hard times and the gentle love of our friends to show us the things we should have and want. This is when our friends truly prove their worth. This is when love proves without a doubt who and what it is and what it can really do to save a life. What I witnessed was love and hope at its finest! What a glorious sight to behold!
This author clearly has a heart for people around her. She knows how deep and dark the valleys of life can be, but she can also testify to how breathtaking and majestic the top of the mountains are as well. She has seen it all and survived, and now she is a witness to those who need to see that there is just as much good as their is bad around us. We just need to stand up and decide what we truly want. We need to set the tone and the pace for pulling ourselves up from the bottom of depression to the heights of relief and peace. Are you ready to claim back your life and move on to grasp your own portion of love, peace, and hope?
This is my first book to read / listen to of Josie Riviera ‘s . What caught my eye about the book at first it was about Ireland . Handsome Irish men that makes a great love story , Danny and Clara are different in many ways but are they really ? Danny wants to be loved but not because of his wealth . Clara is looking for acceptance in her own way . Wants to be independent and make it on her own but some obstacles get in her way . She trusted her brother and that was a big mistake . Trying to forget her past and start new that is what she will do but she goes to steps forward and two steps back . She loves to dance and she gets to teach but will that dream be shattered because the dance studio had to close ! Danny is busy opening is coffee shops across Europe and that was his main focus until he lets Clara start breaking away the wall around his heart. Clara finds out he is not telling the truth about who he is and this makes her decide she can’t trust him . It would be best to go their separate ways . Will these two find their way back to each other , fix what is broken in both of them , or just walk away . I could not put the book down and I will be listening to the book over and over again . Another plus this is a clean romance novel , Keep writing beautiful love stories and I will buy them .
The story is set in Ireland. Clara has left an abusive relationship and is now struggling to make ends meet and support a brother suffering from deep grief and addiction. Her sister also needs support from her. Along comes Danny who is a rich, coffee shop owner building his multi-national chain of coffee shops. He also has issues from his childhood.
The story itself is a seemingly mis-matched romance with misunderstandings with several threads thrown in that aren’t quite followed up. The supporting characters have a good part to play.
Josie Riviera writes an intriguing, sweet love story about two people who aren't looking for love, but love finds them. Clara climbs a bridge to save her suicidal brother and a stranger follows her to offer his support and encouragement. He turns out to be a very kind and handsome stranger but Clara already has a full plate and isn't looking for romance. Will he find a place in her heart? Can Clara get her brother 'back on the rails'? Find out in this engaging story that combines romance, friendship, family and a little bit of mystery.
I was fully unaware of what kind of book I was given. I loved the language that was given through the audible book. I was complete taken in from the beginning. When Clara was helping her brother from committing suicide in the bridge and having the help and support from a stranger named Danny Brady. He invitedClara to come and have coffee and listen to him play his irish music. But Clara didn't know Danny Brady was the owner. Clara was determined to help her brother get his life straightened out. Danny was bound to get to know this woman better. But he was always keeping secrets. They came out little by little. He wanted to protect her and be with her. But Danny starting off on the wrong foot didn't help any. Clara's past can back to town and haunted her and her told nobody was have his girl. He told her in the alley then he pushed her to the ground. Danny was furious when he saw that. They where spending more thing with eachother and then out of no where the first kiss came and they realized they had feeling for eachother. Sheamus was still having his problems just covered it up with lies. Things where started going down hill for Danny and Clara. I loved listening to Oh Danny Boy ! I pictured myself with them at the coffee shop and going to Dublin and all the place that was part of the story. It was a awesome Irish story and listening to it is the Irish accent was fabulous. It was a story that went thru all the emotions. I was mad and I cried it was truly an Irish romance and I loved everything about it. It tested the strength of a relationship from a distance even being far away they where still testing the relationship. I recommend that you go out and buy this anyway you can and find out what happens to Danny Brady and Clara Donovan and her family. You will enjoy it I hope.
I give this 4 stars overall since I don't think it was badly written but just 3 stars for my own personal enjoyment. I had a hard time relating to the characters for which I am thankful. I have never been in a position of an abusive relationship, neglectful parents, alcoholism/drug use, jail time, thieving and so forth. I couldn't decide if I would react to situations as they did if I were in their shoes. I would think that after being in the abusive relationship Clara wouldn't be so optimistic especially about her brother. I think she would be more skeptical about people in general. But I've never been there so maybe her natural positive personality would override the scars from her past. I don't know.
I liked Clara and Danny I just couldn't personally relate to them. I'm glad they started figuring out how to have a happily ever after. And that Clara's siblings seemed to be making more of their lives by the end as well. It seemed that all the main characters had had difficult lives. Maybe that was part of the attraction to each other.
The book deals with difficult subject matter. There is alcoholism, physical abuse, emotional abuse, manipulation, neglect, gamboling addiction, theft etc... Some of these things had happened in the past but some are part of the story time frame. Because of these things much of the book felt darker than just fluff romance. (Part of my enjoyment problem was that I'd rather read fluff than dark).
I think others would enjoy this book more than I did. It just wasn't to my tastes. So give it a go.
Sex: innuendo, passionate kisses Language: a little Violence: physical abuse toward a woman, (and a car).
This is slightly difficult for me to review, only because the character of Danny disappoints me through much of the book. He does redeem himself, but not until after he has done a lot of damage. Clara is trying to talk her brother Seamus, off the bridge and back to safety. He lost his wife and has given himself over to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain. Danny sees Clara as she tries everything possible to save him and is immediately taken with her strength and love. It takes everything she has to keep an eye on Seamus and to make sure he's not gambling, drinking or getting into trouble. Danny is a billionaire and nothing like the young man who grew up with his demons. He owns a string of high-end coffee shops throughout the world and has plans to take his company to the United States. As Danny and Clara become close, there's a cloud hanging over their romance. Danny's computer is hacked, money is stolen and he reacts terribly. First of all, he blames Seamus for taking the money to support his habits and, because she has made so many excuses for Seamus's behavior, he turns on Clara! His treatment of her is unforgivable, accusing her of stealing the money, and I was hoping he'd have to grovel much more than he did to win Clara back; however, he did make the grand gesture and it made for a wonderful ending. Jodie Kearns does a wonderful job with the narration and the only thing that wasn't exceptional was the tinny sound throughout the book. I can highly recommend this book and audiobook!
Oh Danny Boy by Josie Riviera This book starts out with praise for the author's writings. Book starts out in Ireland and her brother Seammus is on the bridge, about to jump and probably drunk as he's griefing still over the death of his wife. A man will go with her to stop him as they climb the rusty bridge. Clara tries to console him, the guitarist behind her supports her... Danny Brady is the one that helps them down off the bridge as the news reporters are there to film it, their whole lives on the screen... Over tea they talk about his coffee shop and finds out about the scones she bakes-thinking he could make a profit at his shops selling them...he needs to buy her recipe, they are that good! They start seeing one another and Danny actually hires her brother to work for him. Some things are missing, along with money, a cyber crime upon Danny and her new jewelry from her birthday party. She starts putting things together and just knows her brother is to blame for it all, or could it be her ex boyfriend who's out of jail now and has been harassing her... Fear and scary situations but also loving, caring ones also. Love the locale and travel Especially love his other gift that he gives her, what a true sign of love. Note and scone recipe from the author are included at the end. Other works from the author and about the author are highlighted at the end Excerpt from Maeve is included. Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
Clara Donovan is determined to be strong and independent after all that she's experienced in her past. So, when her brother attempts suicide, she's convinced that she can help him. However, she's not prepared for the kindness and gentleness of a wealthy businessman to get past her walls.
Danny Brady is not looking for romance. He's simply in town to open a new location for his coffee shop empire that he's building. But, when he sees the dedication and determination in Clara to help her family, he can't help but admire her. Yet, will that loyalty turn against their chance for happiness?
This story is like two stories in one. On the surface you have the developing relationship between Clara and Danny. Mingled with it is the story of Clara's brother, Seamus, who suffers from addictions. As if that's not enough, the author delves into the emotions and thoughts of someone who's experienced an abusive relationship.
The setting is obviously in Ireland, but I was impressed by how well the author integrated the Irish mannerisms and speech in the story. It's obvious that she's spent plenty of time in Ireland to peg so many expressions and slang.
This is a very touching story of a man who overcame a devastating childhood and is on his way to becoming a billionaire. It is also story of addiction, prejudging, acceptance, forgiveness, and the wiles of romance. The story begins with an attempted suicide, then proceeds with a girl untrusting of men. She has made her own mistakes and is determined to not make more. She is a stubborn, extraordinary woman who has a bad habit of jumping to conclusions. It also centers on a man who is confident and self- driven. He is untrusting of close relationships. Little did each expect to be put together through the actions of another. The characters are portrayed very well, as are the background scenes. It is easy to feel a part of the story. The Title and Cover image are chosen well. There are some unexpected twists which adds to the story’s appeal. The performance of narrator, Jodie Kearns, would have been excellent if she had chosen a better place to record. The hollow echo sound, caused by the location she was in, was quite annoying and distracting . I offer a Four and a Half Stars rating for this audiobook. This audiobook was gifted me with no pressure, whatsoever, for a positive review. This is my honest review.
3.5 Stars. This is a perfect contemporary romance to read for St. Patrick’s Day! It is set an Ireland. Some of the story I read, other parts I listened to the audiobook. I enjoyed the reader, you can tell she is actually Irish and has a beautiful singing voice. Clara meets Danny in an odd place, saving her suicidal brother’s life. They form an instant bond, that is often stretched. She comes from a tragic childhood and is very vulnerable and self conscious. Because of that she has been taken advantage of before by men she has trusted. She hides it under a mask of independence and stubbornness. He also came from a poor and sad childhood but has turned himself into a wealthy businessman. Even though their pasts are similar in ways, their current lives are very different and they have a lot of obstacles to get over. I enjoyed this novel and would recommend it if you enjoy “Hallmark movie” reads. :)
* This novel is sexually clean but does deal with some heavier issues; suicide, addiction, alcoholism, and death of loved ones.
I received copy of this book from the author and wanted to post my honest review.
Well done Mrs. Riviera this book Oh Danny Boy was exceptional. Simply wonderful the story had such a sweetness to it that you could just feel the story come to life through this fantastic audiobook. The narrator has done an incredible job, the accents were superb. You could feel and sense the Irleand strength come through your speakers. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any book from Mrs. Riviera in the future. I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I dont give spoilers but if you are looking for a CLEAN unspoiled romance book then you have certainly found a great author. This is the 2nd book of hers that I have read and reviewed and I couldn't be happier. I was so pleased with this book that I went to Amazon and bought it for my personal library. Mrs. Riviera is now a 1-click buying author for this devoted reader. I can't wait to explore more of her work. Happy Reading! ❤💗👏
While this book review was mainly intended for her audiobook I strongly felt that the very same review should be included in the kindle version of this same work. Amazon readers need to know just how great these books are.
Readers will find themselves whisked away to the Emerald Isle in this well written romance. Author Josie Riviera’s vivid descriptions made me feel as if I had indeed been transported across the Atlantic to Ireland.
The people portrayed are very real and I felt as if I knew them. Ms. Riviera knows how to keep her readers emotionally involved in the story and moves us seamlessly between the high and low points in her main character’s lives. The book focuses on Clara and Danny, who on the surface appear to have little on which to base a relationship, but upon digging deeper have more in common than not. I not only became interested in Clara and Danny, but also in the supporting characters who have their own sub-stories that impact their relationship.
Josie Riviera is a fairly new to me author, but I’m quickly becoming one of her biggest fans.
I received an e-copy of this book from the author. The opinions here, however, are strictly my own.
The story takes off at a fast pace when Danny Brady helps Clara Donovan talk her brother from jumping off a bridge. He wears the hero cape quite well, befriending Clara, helping out her family, taking her sightseeing, giving advice about Clara's brother and his addictions. Clara isn't like the other women he's dated who only seemed interested in his money and success. Danny's top priority is opening franchises worldwide to secure his wealth, which he feels will give him the peace and self-respect he's looking for. Can he be wrong about those priorities? And what about the guilt he's carried with him for so many years? I enjoyed the "tour of Ireland" Ms. Rivieria provides as well as her descriptions along the way--of character's wardrobes, scenery, coffee shop and menu, etc., which helped to capture the essence of the story and made me feel like I was right there. A wonderful clean romance with a HEA!! Well done! I highly recommend this book!
This story had real-life characters with problems such as alcoholism, co-dependency and yet there is deep family love and loyalty. The heroine has a jaded past and a restraining order out on her ex-con boyfriend. The hero is a workaholic owner of a chain of coffee shops. Yet these two seem pretty much perfect for one another.
Narration: 5 stars
The narrator must be Irish, her accent is just so believable! She reads with good expression and emotion. Her reading speed is just right, as well. There's some singing in the book and the narrator has a lovely singing voice! I'd happily listen to her again! (Her recording studio is a tiny bit echo-y, but you don't notice after about the first 2 seconds of listening.)
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
Oh Danny Boy whisks the reader off to Ireland. I love this beautiful country. Although I have never visited, Josie Riviera brings the countryside and the people to life. Her descriptions are almost best next to actually being there. Clara Donovan has not had an easy life including the the night she and a stranger have to talk her drunk brother down from the tallest bridge. Danny Brady is the owner of a vast enterprise. Tired of women wanting his money and not necessarily him, Clara intrigues him. Will they be able to navigate their differences and find love? Will Clara and Danny see past their pasts and into a future together? I really enjoyed this story. All of Josie Riviera's books take the reader on a wonderful experience. So grab a book and curl up. I received a copy through the author. A review was not required.
Oh Danny Boy : A Sweet Contemporary Romance By: Josie Riviera Oh Danny Boy is a very sweet contemporary romance by Josie Riviera. The story and the characters both were well developed. In loved being sweep away to Ireland ,a place where I have never been. Riviera had me hooked right at the start. Clara had some family issues .She wanted to help her brother. Danny might just be what Clara needs. Can he help her get over the past and move on with her life? I felt so sorry for Clara. This was one of those page turners where I could not read fast enough to see what was going yo happen next. If You love romance I am sure you will love Oh Danny Boy. I was given a complementary copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review.
I haven't been to Ireland but now I want to go. Josie Rivera's beautiful story has me seeing what Ireland can be like and the people that really can be so caring and love life. I loved her hero and heroine. Danny is one kind of a man every woman would fall in love with and Clara is one tough lady who is still fragile inside. Danny is also remembering a past he would rather forget. This is a beautiful story with lots of emotion and caring and danger at least to one heroine. It is also one where you just might not be sure how it will turn out but you sure hope it is a good ending and well it is. I highly recommend this story and I don't believe you will ever regret it buying it.
I received this story as an arc but not for review. This my own doing as I loved this story.
What a lovely book! I felt like I was on holiday in Ireland getting to know such wonderful characters! Clara and Danny were both wonderful. They had been through hard things but worked hard to make the best lives they could. Their story is beautiful. This book isn’t all pink roses... it deals with suicide, depression, addiction and more. It she’s so in a loving and gentle way. I thought the author did a great job of grounding the book with deeper issues, while presenting a lovely and clean romance! I listened to the audio version and the narrator was fabulous! The production itself was tinny and hard to hear... but I got used to that quickly and truthfully it didn’t distract from the book itself! I received this book for free in exchange of an review
