A World War II story based on a true story of survival, determination, patience and love.

YUGOSLAVIA 1939

Sofia Savich is a young girl who lives an ordinary life until her world that she knows begins to erode rapidly. With World War Two at its height, the Nazi invaded her homeland with a mighty force, and now, they had to flee to evade certain death. Hiding in a forest, in the middle of a harsh winter, Sofia and her family find that hunger is as much of an enemy to them as the fascists. Starving, and almost frozen to death, they eventually discover an abandoned place where they can take refuge until the winter is over.

Then, one day, a young soldier, Adrian enters Sofia’s life in the most unlikely circumstances. Adrian, who is an attractive, charismatic and enigmatic young man turns Sofia’s world upside down. Sofia quickly realizes how enticing he is, and she finds herself battling her own demons. Should she listen to her common sense or her heart? But soon, the past comes hunting them again. Will they have enough time to escape or will they succumb to their enemies?

Katarina Jovic was born and raised in the former Yugoslavia and lived there until she immigrated to the United States with her husband, in 2001. She now lives in the small town in Ohio with her husband and three beautiful children.
Katarina always dreamed of writing a book, but always seemed to find an excuse to put it off, until one day she finally realized that the story she had to write had been under her nose all along.
When she wrote the first chapter of her book, it was like all the excuses and procrastinations have evaporated. Katarina has loved every part of the process of writing and is determined to carry on with other projects that she has in mind.
She is hoping that every one of her readers will love her book as much as she loved the process. She wanted to write a book that people will fall in love with and she hopes this story will continue to live on, inspire and encourage women and young girls around the world to pursue their dreams, even if they seem impossible to reach.
When she isn’t writing or working, Katarina enjoys nothing more than spending time with her family, watching her sons play soccer, take long walks with her dog, Oriell, and of course, cheer her daughter on every volleyball game. If she is not watching soccer or volleyball, she likes to curl up with a book or watch a good movie.

I was very fortunate to win a copy of this book from GR. It's a richly written story about a young girl growing up and surviving during WW 2. I very much liked the main character, Sofia, and her strength throughout the novel, along with the rest of her family. A large portion of the book is spent immersing the reader in Sofias life growing up and allows for a bond to the family. I wish I felt a stronger connection to the love story, but overall enjoyed the story and how real it felt to what people faced during that time of war.

This was a very powerful read. I found this book hard to put down; the characters were compelling and easy to relate to, and the author has a nice writing style that makes for an easy read. The author did a great job in making me feel like I was right there in the story and gave me a sense of what it might have been like in Europe in the early 1940's. A great war time novel, with amazing characters in a terrible time for humanity. This book is about one family's survival during WWII in Yugoslavia and a must read for anyone looking back at that time in history. This is a novel well worth reading. Highly recommended! I want to thank the author for providing me with a free ebook copy. Enjoyed it very much, Thank you!
