When Heather unveils her new Chocolate Chip Custard Donut, she expects a large crowd, but she didn't expect it to include the angry private investigator Inspector Lemon who accuses them of stealing his cases and then leaves them on a threatening sour note. But after Inspector Lemon is in a suspicious car crash, Heather and Amy are all set to find the culprit who sabotaged the car. Matters become complicated when Lemon's last words seem to implicate Amy in the crime.
Follow Heather as she has to sift through the investigator's cases so she can clear her bestie's name and track down the real killer.
This is the 46th installment in this series and it’s a clean read. The author indicates that this book is typo free with no grammar issues; however, that is not the case and editing and proofing are still lacking.
When fellow private investigator, Kelly Lemon, is involved in an auto accident, Ryan believes it may be a case of attempted murder and brings Heather and Amy in to help with the investigation. Kelly recently confronted Amy, accusing her of stealing one of his cases, and heated words are exchanged. When Kelly passes, his last word is ‘Amy’. Even though Ryan doesn’t believe she’s guilty, he has to question Amy and take her off the case.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Delicious new treat today!!! Heather Shepherd, owner of Donuts Delights and certified private investigator has produced a new donut. It is the Chocolate Chip Custard Donut. While customers are enjoying the new flavored donut, an old acquaintance, Inspector Kelly Lemon comes raging into the shop. He is accusing Amy of stealing his case of the missing lunches. They have words. Next time, Inspector Lemon is heard about is after he crashes a car into a tree. Foul play is found with the car. His dying word is Amy. So Heather needs to clear her friends name. A good variety of colorful, well defined suspects are presented. Will Heather be weed out the culprit??? This is book # 46 in the Donut Hole Mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone. I volunteered to read this Advanced Readers Copy. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
This is the 46th in the series. Heather and Amy start with another PI coming into the donut shoppe screaming that they are taking his cases and ruining his business. Leaves there yelling that he will solve a big case and the next thing you know, he is in the hospital and barely hanging on. He calls Amy 's name as he is dying and they have to put up with the police looking at Amy for the cause of his accident. But in the end the figure it out and save another persons life. They know this all still goes back to Lyle Clarke but still can not prove it but I am sure will soon.
Another murder in Hillside has Heather investigating once again. Except this time the victim is none other than private investigator Kelly Lemon and Amy is suspected of the murder. Eva and Leila are still bunking in with Heather and Ryan as they wait for insurance to come through so they can do the renovations. Fun read with twists and turns. Another yummy donut.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I am so glad to see that Susan Gillard is back at it again. This book was amazing!!!! Of course we have Lyle Clarke in the mix but I'm glad to see this book really picked right up from the last book. Can't wait to read the next one.
Inspector Lemon barging into their store and slinging insults. She stole my case, he yells, the missing lunches. Amy stands up for herself, and that she was a good PI. Inspector has a mishap, was it sabotaged or something else.after he threatened Amy should they help him. Good plot.
I like the easy read but I think these books are more suited to teenagers. I'm always disappointed that many authors world build with no minorities, at least theres not much of characters' physically description to suggest there are any. The story began to be too similar or have a well used trope.
After a brief absence, Heather and Amy return in an all new story -- number 46 in the Donut Hole series. While trying to focus on rebuilding Eva and Leila's house, the pair is called to assist with the investigation into the death of another Hillside private investigator.
As always with this series, the story is a quick, clean and entertaining read. Susan Gillard continues to keep the series fresh by continuing to develop her characters and providing enough mystery to keep the reader engaged.
Amy is suspected of murdering another PI in town and is unable to help Heather clear her name. Eva and Leila are still living with Heather and Ryan while waiting for the insurance to come through on their home. I enjoy reading this series and can't wait for the team to bring down the new bad guys in town!

I have to say that I enjoyed this book a lot more than the previous books. Though I don't like Kelly, his character was well used in this book. This book gave him more of a background than previous books. He turned out to be more than Kate's lap dog.
Though Clarke made an appearance in this book, it wasn't over whelming... well until the end. I am starting to not mind him as much, but I feel like that is just due to repeated exposure.
It was kinda nice seeing one of the main characters in the hot seat again. I normally don't like it, but it's been a while so it's a nice throw back to the beginning of the series.
I still want more with the bakery staff but I've almost given up on that.
