Rate this book
River Jackson lives in a small town known for major supernatural problems. Between a recent promotion in her coven and moving in with her werejaguar boyfriend, she's living the life of her dreams. Until her sweetheart is attacked during an assassination attempt on the local werewolf alpha. Soon after, a nearby family is found murdered by magical means. The regional circle of witches assigns River the case, filling her hands with rogue vampires and nervous shifters demanding answers. When evidence points to a warlock at the heart of the chaos, River's only hope is to unravel the mystery before the people she loves are included in the rising body count. The Impractical Magic series combines the best qualities of paranormal romance and urban fantasy, creating fast-paced adventure with a sensual subplot. Readers who love shifters, witches, and mysterious paranormal creatures will go wild over Better Than Hex.

Have I said how much I love River? She continues to be my favorite of all the Vivienne Savage characters - and that's saying a lot, because there are so many that I love.

River is strong, smart, brave, and knows how to hold her own in a fight - or at least she won't back down in the face of a fight, whether she knows she can win or not. She's not cocky and obnoxious. As a reader, I felt her struggle to figure out just what-all she can do, and then push herself even further.

And Zac is just a yummy beta male. He can cook for me any time. LOL I love the way he gets behind River and backs her up, regardless of anything else.

Yep, these two books are definitely my favorite.

Fast-paced paranormal mystery.
I about pulled my hair out over the ending.
Love River and Zac, and the rest of the cast.
This time around vampires and wicked warlocks are the threat and not just bitchy exes! River has her hands full when the Sisterhood puts her solely in charge of the investigation into the vampire threat after two innocents are murdered by a power-hungry warlock for an obscene ritual. We get to see River in action dusting vampires like a badass, thanks to some unexpected new powers that manifest. The ending is a bit of a game changer, and I can't wait for book 3 so I can see how this all shakes out!

Luv a Witch.

I really liked this story because it was packed with action and friendship. Old friends and new friends band together to fight overwhelming odds. With her panther lover by her side, our courageous witch finds ingenious ways to outwit the bad guys. I would recommend this book to anyone.

The next step

Our couple are comfortable with the way life has been going but the missing warlock makes an appearance in the worst way. Friendships are threatened, lives are taken and our heroine has her beliefs readjusted. River grows exponentially in this story and when things are at their bleakest, her friends and their support give her the strength to power through.

The stakes are raised even higher in this fast-paced exciting sequel. There was non-stop action and twists and turns I never expected. I loved not only meeting the new characters introduced but also journeying along with the characters from the previous book that I know and love. I enjoyed the mystery, suspense and revelations.
I was hooked from the first page and I definitely can't wait for more.
I voluntarily reviewed an arc from the author.

Nice follow up. Shifter/witch romance action adventure.
Update: I read it again as I just finished a related book.
Typos: punctuation, strangely written phrase ("with exception to" where I would expect "with the exception of"), extra word.

A good read

This bookwas really good. However the relationship that surrounds the story seemed to fade into the background. That being said I enjoyed it, full of surprises and mystery.

Enjoyed this second installment staring Zach, River and their shifter friends. Action packed l, still hot but less full scene. Wink wink. If you like urban magic books this series is worth a check out. Just finished Blood Kissed (release 1 Aug) last night too featuring a new couple but getting help from River and her team. Love when cross overs happens.
