Constanza Mayer was born in Santiago, Chile. She spent most of her childhood living in different cities across Chile until she finally settled down for about six years in the small village of Beecher City, Illinois. There, she began her true journey into the realm of fantasy and all things magical—Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars fed her imaginative mind. This is when, at 13, she began to write her first fantasy novel, but, sadly, it was lost due to a computer virus.

In 2004, she moved back to Chile with her family where the cultural shock, and having lost what she had written, stopped her writing streak. Only in her last years of university could she write again. This is where "The Battle of the Erathiel" began to develop. The seed was planted.

After a few years of hard work and living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she finished the first novel of her series in Santiago, Chile on October 29, 2016. Currently, she is working on the Spanish edition of "Across the Enchanted Sea" with Chilean editorial Tríada Ediciones and preparing an anniversary edition of her first book. Book two of the series is soon to start its edition process as well.

Constanza is an avid reader, a lover of the arts, and a devoted piano player and composer. Among her dreams, she hopes to continue traveling across the world to fill herself with more experiences to write from, as she typically says:

“Hay que vivir para poder escribir.”

“You must live so that you may write.”

On June 5, 2023, she married the love of her life, Carter Shoemaker, making her dream of finding true love a reality. She is now Mrs. Shoemaker but will continue using Constanza Mayer as her pen name.

Truly enchanted and amazing adventure from Constanza Mayer is here!
The book The Battle of the Erathiel: Across the Enchanted Sea is a greatly mastered fantasy work with a fascinating plot, breathing with life characters, full of events and experiences that fill readers with excitement and overwhelming desire to turn pages and investigate the sequence of events submerging into the fictitious world, which nevertheless surprises by its reality.
As the story begins, we are watching the royal family of King Thinidiel, the last Elven King, his Queen Nimtar and their children in their journey across the Enchanted Sea. Driven by woes of war initiated by the dark and malicious elf Bragolthar, dwarves, humans, and elves have started their difficult, full of perilous turns, travel.
Having lost most of their ships, they at last found the land. What awaits them in the mysterious harbor, desert, and mountains? Will this land become their paradise or hell? How many battles do they have to win with their swords, daggers, axes, bows, and arrows?
This is a true story of fight, courage, friendship, magic and trust! The narrative is very descriptive, full of sparkling details and vivid dialogues. The characters are developed in a very unique manner, accompanied by an emotional upheaval of feelings: from anger and fear to empathy, love, and concernment.
If you are looking for mysterious, enigmatic worlds, magical powers, and surprising adventures - this book is definitely for you.

"The Battle of the Erathiel: Across the Enchanted Sea" is great! I loved the characters in the story, specially King Thinidiel. The story is gripping and interesting and I just can't wait for the next book to come out. For being Constanza's first book, it is very well written. Keep up the good work!

3.5 stars.

A tribe of Elves, traveling through the enchanted sea with 3 ships. But After an outrageous storm, one ship was destroyed, another is lost, and the last one landed near a deserted Land, the surviving elves settle into these lands, only to find that it’s already inhabited, not by elves, but another species, they haven’t even heard about them before.

The story is quite original, i have not read anything even remotely similar before.

A ship lost in the See? elves? kings? Princes and princesses? YASS PLEASEEE!!
description
Across the sparkling Enchanted Sea, sailed a ship whose white
sails shone like flames of pure light.

The first issue had with this book, which lead to other several ones; is the length of the book, 166 pages is very SHORT for a fantasy book.
And this short length didn’t leave a space for the characters development or for me to connect
with the Characters to an emotional level!
The story included A LOT of names, i didn’t have time to connect with each one.

The World Building was quite Good, it took a great part of the novel, which was definitely a bonus!

The first 50 pages of the book was so GOOD and MYSTERIOUS! It got me waiting and anticipating for more, for something deep and Swarthy; but when i kept going, i found myself facing the ” About the Author” page, with my expectations crashing the walls.

The story included quite A LOT of magic, it was so overwhelming, i loved it!
description
Nimtar smiled as with the wave of her hand, more vines and plants began to grow around them, making a gazebo of many colors and light, with curtains of flowers separating them from those around

I really do wish Book 2 is bigger and deeper than this one!

I read the book and I have to say that I am very impressed with the details written out during the action scenes. The magic scenes were not so bad themselves. I will say though that the multiple of characters introduced at the same time lost me there during the plot development. The story is still a good. The writer is outstanding. I look forward to more writing from the this author. Until next time my fellow readers. Read on!

Okay let’s start with the fact that the concept is brilliant! Tribe of elves, ships, wolves, deserted lands, horrible weather, discreet names, fated mates… it just keeps getting better and better

The scene between Lothar and the guys was so funny and sweet when they were talking about the said “landscape”

It’s a fast paced book and it’s very easy to read (except for the names) and it’s so interesting that you keep reading to figure out what’s going to happen next. It’s a short book though

The names of the title were so cute and I realized they’re part of the chapters. Like they’re words or phrases the characters say and I thought that was so nice

The characters were unique. There was a lot of growth. Emotional growth especially and I thought that was very important

However, I gave this book a four star rate because there was soooo many names for such a short book. It’s a series but I just wish half of the names were introduced in the books to come. I couldn’t keep up with the names, I had to keep going back forth

Overall, the book has a spectacular plot and I do recommend you read this one! The plot and the settings were magical and whimsical and enigmatic and mysterious. I really liked it

First - thank you so much for the author for this ARC!

This one kept me on my toes from beginning to the very end! Amazing work! This first part of the series really leaves you craving for more and I’m already so excited for the parts to come!

World building was very well written, there was plenty of it - without it being confusing at all. I really felt like I was there. Magic system is also very interesting! I haven’t read anything quite like this before and the story felt so original.

The book is very short for a fantasy book and even though we saw some character growth I felt like I didn’t have enough time to really connect with any of them or find my favorite one since there are a lot of characters introduced to us. I hope we get to see more details in the next book - the characters are very well written and I feel like they have so much to offer!

Over all, this being the authors first book, again, amazing work! This really checks the boxes if you are looking for a fast paced fantasy with intriguing plot.

I'd recommend this story to anyone who loves an epic journey, dark vs. light magic, and cliffhangers.

Over all, I enjoyed this book. This is one of the better debut novels I have had the pleasure of ARC reading. Constanza Mayer's writing style gives old-world storytelling vibes, which is a perfect fit for this story. You won't be disappointed if you pick this one up.

Without spoilers, the book starts with a huge storm, and some distressing events for the royal family. Even though I had no idea what was happening at first, the first chapter's events hooked me fast, and I was immediately eager to figure out what was going on. What happened to the characters? Where will they land? Did they make it out alive? The rest of the tale had great descriptions that helped me visualize what was happening or where I was transported to, although in some instances, it was a bit too wordy. The story is short, but jam-packed with magical lore, events and characters. It was refreshing to read a book about elves and dwarves, because I feel that a lot of modern fantasy focuses on fae or the likes. I liked that this was something all of its own, and it is the beginning of what could be an amazing series. I felt like the plot moved fast and kept my attention, and made me want to keep turning deeper into the pages of this epic journey.

My only true criticism, and the reason for 4 stars, is that because the novel is so short, it was difficult for me to keep track of characters, and I felt that I was missing some information in some parts of the story. I enjoyed the different POVs, but at times I was a bit confused. That being said, it did not discourage me from wanting to give the second book a try when it is released. I am looking forward to continuing this series. I think it is obvious that Constanza Mayer has amazing talent as a writer, and I am happy to have gotten a chance to ARC read The Battle of the Erathiel: Across the Enchanted Sea.

I really enjoyed The Battle of Erathiel: Across the Enchanted Sea. This is my 3rd fantasy book, but first that wasn't romance. I loved the elves aspect. The scenery was very detailed to the point where I felt like I was there myself. I liked how the elves came in peace when they arrived to the land of Orodor, and accepted the people of Orodor's help. I like how the villain of the story, Delufer seems to know where the elves of the land of Eidelvar are at, at all times. Reminds me of a Disney villain! The story is very original (to me at least), and I need to know what happens to Isilen. I can't wait for book 2!

A big thank you to Constanza Mayer Release Team, through @haylingbookstorm Master ARC Team!

This was a short, entertaining fantasy read. The Erathiel have to leave their homeland and after months at sea find new land. What follows is a tale of good vs. evil featuring dwarves, elves, humans, dark lords and lots of action.

The world building was done nicely, but I feel like the character development could have been a bit stronger. There just didn’t seem to be enough back story to the individual characters or even the group as a whole, like why they had to leave their land. It was described in just a few short sentences.

Despite that, the book was still an enjoyable, fast and easy read. I will definitely read book two to find out what happens to the Erathiel!

I received an advance reader copy from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Best Fantasy I have read
I should begin by saying that this is an exemplary piece of art well done. I have loved the plot, the characters and the whole flow of the story. Fantasy has been taking over my interests and to say, this book has only heightened my love for the genre.
The story of Thinidiel and his kinship as they leave a troubled and haunted homeland, in seek of a better and more hospitable land to occupy. But sailing to that destination is not in the least any form of fun, one because they did not have a map to a potential home, and secondly because the sea was also haunted, and befriended by violent storms. In these struggles in the sea, they lose two ships, one wrecked by the unforgiving waves and dark spirits of the waters, and the other lost in the sea, to the dark spirits inhabiting the waters. It is breathtaking just how Erathiel’s leaders, King Thinidiel and Queen Nimtar, who led the trio group: humans, elves and dwarves. It was a trio not by nature but by fate, because they had only come to be one as a result of the dark spirit-mediated war back home, Eidelvar.
Having found a desert, the trio had some time to breathe. But will the desert be as hospitable as they hoped? The desert was one living oven, wide and vast, giving nothing back besides intense heat. Second, it was a home to species strange and larger in numbers as compared to the trio’s own. But the elves were of great counsel. However, it seems that the Erathiels would not be free of trouble and challenges, for as long as they live. But there is this one Delufer, this evil witch that torments them like no other they had before. They can only relate this to their first plague, the Bragolthar that had led them to this treacherous journey. Delufer takes the soul and life of an innocent boy before vanishing, leaving the Erathiel and Orach some space to sigh. If this book was a movie, or if this book could be used to plot a movie, even those who least like fantasy would love it truly.
Whoever lands his/her hands on this book finds great pleasure. It is a five star book that I recommend to everyone.

Stormy Seas and Shifting Fates

"The Battle of the Erathiel" promises an epic journey into a fantastical universe full of action and adventure. In the midst of a fierce storm, Elves, Dwarves, and Humans find themselves transported to an unknown land. This magic-filled story explores friendships and foes, hope and loss in an adventure where wizards and shape-shifting adversaries intersect.

With vivid descriptions, C. Mayer immerses us in the midst of the storm, where Isilen, a resourceful Elf, fights to keep her crew alive. The details transport the reader into this fantastical world, and conflicts and dangers unfold at a brisk pace. Characters like Thinidiel and Telwen add depth to the story, showcasing the author's mastery in portraying relationships and constructing the fantasy world.

The story strikes a remarkable balance between action and character exploration. Intrigues develop gradually, keeping the reader in suspense as they uncover this magical world.

Valruin, the heroic prince of "The Battle of the Erathiel," stands out for his courage and loyalty. Amidst the destructive storm and the unknown, Valruin maintains his determination to protect his people and family. His character is defined by a blend of royal responsibility and profound humanity. Despite painful losses and challenges, Valruin remains anchored in his principles and belief in a brighter future. His presence adds compassion and strength to the narrative, and his evolution promises an intriguing character development.

The incorporation of mythology and fantastical elements adds an extra charm to the narrative. The conclusion of the "From the Ashes" fragment suggests an interesting direction for the story's continuation, leaving the reader eager to learn more. The author's sharing of the first chapter from the next book adds value to the overall experience.

"The Battle of the Erathiel" is a captivating journey into the world of fantasy, filled with complex characters and thrilling events. I recommend this book to all lovers of adventure and magic.

This book had a lot of potential, and the author did a great job of transporting me into a different world. She had a unique ability to make each species completely different and the story was fast paced and pretty short. There was a lot of beautiful description of the surroundings and I enjoyed the main characters and the family interactions and obvious bond with each other. I’m a big fan of spinning old themes and making them into original storylines, which I think is what the author did really well. The last remaining members of three different species (elves, humans and dwarves) looking for a new home and finding themselves in an obviously magical-rich island. They’re immediately met with an evil species, find some new friends and also meet an overarching, darker force.

However, I’m rating it three stars because there were a lot of characters and names introduced that were similar and I was constantly getting confused on who was who, as well as other characters that were mentioned briefly and then barely touched on later. I’m not sure the different POVs were helpful in that aspect either or really brought much value to the story, but maybe it will in the second book. At times it felt like I was dropped into book two and I was missing the previous context for relationships, histories, magical systems, etc. Maybe a better way to explain it, is that it felt like a high-fantasy world was shoved into less than 200 pages, leaving out important details, relationships and systems that would make it easier to understand for the reader. There was a lot of lore introduced but not really fleshed out and I felt frustrated at times for not being able to pick up the book where I left off and keep reading, but normally had to go back and try to figure out where I was or figure out which character’s POV it was.

Overall, I think it’s an interesting read if you’re looking for something original, and maybe a lot of these issues will be resolved in book two, which is releasing sometime this year.

Fantastic story!

These characters will consume you and keep you locked in their world. You will be sucked into a faraway land as the protagonists, The Erathiels, start their journey to a new land.

The King Of Erathiel, Thinidiel, his family and his kingdom are traveling across the sea to find a land to live when their daughter, Princess Isilen got lost at sea. They were unable to find her anywhere, however her parents didn’t lose hope and still believed her to be alive.

Soon after they came upon a land and started searching for a place to live, however little did they know the land was already inhabited by mysterious lizard-like creatures who do not want to share their land. The Erathiels didn’t receive a warm, friendly welcome instead they were attacked but after a series of events the creatures left them alone and they were able to continue their journey

They came up with a territory called Dôr Annon and the people called themselves Orach. They are very welcoming and peaceful. They accepted the Erathiels and gave them a place to stay. With a peaceful abode, The Eratheils can finally continue searching for the lost princess.

I really don’t want to get into the story because that is not fair to the author or you. Read the book and enjoy the story for yourself. I will say that this book was fun to read. I love that it wasn’t as long and drawn out like most fantasy books. It was a quick read.   I love the originality and uniqueness of this story. I love the grittiness of the story and the twists and turns.

I enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Fantasy and Adventure!

A binge worthy read!

For a debut novel I was blown away. This authors attention to detail and descriptive writing has you immersed in this book from page one. I must say from the second I picked this up I was unable to put it down and I may have lost a couple hours of sleep last night because I wanted to finish this book and know the ending more than I wanted sleep.

A fantastic fantasy this book has it all from elves to wizards to royalty. Lets Strat with characters, Constanza has written a ton of amazing people into this book that you get to meet along the read, to me King Thinidiel and Queen Nimtar stood out most to me, they were well developed and felt like characters you could easily connect to. Along with their children who won my heart over during g this book.

Plot wise this is unique and not something ive read before. Infused with a lot of mystery we get to embark on a journey alongside the main characters as they try to flee war. As this is book one in a series im sure all the questions I have from reading this book are going to be expanded on in book two but what we got in this book is the perfect start to what I think will be an amazing series. This book is filled with magic, emotion and mystery that will keep you engaged from page one. I don't know how much more I can rave about this book but its definitely one of my top fantasy books I've read this year!

I can't wait to get my hands on book two.

Passionate. Magic. Well-written.

"Fate calls out to us and when it is your time, you will answer."~

King Thinidiel and his people are forced to leave their homeplace 'cause the adunance of the darkness. After a long journey the tired elves land on a desert island. They lost one of the their three ships on the sea, and with that part of their loved ones, all the humans spared and Isilen, the strong beautiful princess, daughter of king Thinidiel and queen Nimtar. They need to begin again, trying to regain their old lives even if grief and weariness weigh on them. When hope is running out, it reflames again: on the desert land they find good magic and... life? A very fascinating people welcome them with open arms. Dark times wait for them and their new pacific friends and new challenges are looming on the horizon.
Magic, elves, dwarves, humans, new civilizations, spirit animals and sorcerers: everything entangled perfectly in the frame of this very fascinating and exciting story! The characters are great, the author's skills very high, the atmospheres will lift you up and welcome you in a wonderful worldbuilding.
I have only one bad comment to leave here: it was tooooo brief! I want to read more, more and more abour this world and those characters, to know more about the loyal and brave Turion, the young Valruin and the kind, charismatic Camlhach(yes, the first prince stole my heart!).
I can't wait to read beyond!!!

Ok so first off, Fantasy is not my thing. When Constanza reached out for me to read it I was hesitant. The blurb caught my attention enough for me to give it a chance. I am SO glad I did! I enjoyed this so much that I imagine an actual fantasy lover will love it even more.
The story grips you up right from the start as the elves are caught in a storm and a ship goes down. When the survivors make it to a new land with a new species it gets interesting! I love the all the magic within this story as well. I honestly wish that it was longer. It felt like this should be a novella between two very much longer books! I kept thinking I’d like to know why they were going out to sea and how it led up to that point. When I got to the first chapter of the next book I was like oh yay! We’re going back to how it all went down! Then that last little paragraph… so mean! 😭 I need the next chapter immediately!!! My only complaint, and it’s probably a me problem, is that there was so many characters for such a short book that I was having trouble remembering who was who and was having a bit of trouble connecting with them. But overall this was amazing and I appreciated the originality of everything. I really cannot wait to read the next book!

Thank you so much Constanza Mayer for signing my copy 🫶🏼

* Thankyou to the author for a copy of this ARC

"Well," continued Camlhach, "at least you can continue admiring the landscape when we receive everyone else and dine at the feast."
"Right you are," replied Lothar with a hopeful smile across his face. "I would like that."
"Good," spoke Turion, "because the landscape was admiring you, too."

This was a great read! I am so happy that the author reached out to me about this book because I am now fully invested. I got strong Tolkien vibes, but a bit more mainstream (not as descriptive).

"Your burdens are my burdens. Your joys, mine as well. It is because you allow me to see you that I do."

I found myself connecting well with the characters, and I was able to get through it quickly since it was such a short read!

You get:
• Novella
• Series
• High adult fantasy
• Elves & dwarves
• Battle
• Mythical creatures

I suggest you pick it up for yourself and give it a chance!

Beautiful

The descriptions and the way in which this book is written is beautiful. It reminds me of older books and stories, especially when it comes to interactions between characters. A few sentences or areas felt clunky, and you couldn’t always tell who was talking, but it didn’t trip me up a lot.

There were a lot of names. For a book this short, it’s kind of difficult to keep track of everyone, especially because the names are all unique and some are hard to remember. There are a few that are hard to say, but I’d only stumble for a moment.

The story as a whole is wonderful. The struggles, the connections, the world—they were all masterfully crafted. I love the history and the path this story paves. The ending is somewhat abrupt, however, but that makes a great jumping point for the next book. This is a quick read, and you won’t be disappointed.

Follow along with the last elves, dwarves and the only human as they embark on a journey to find a new home after they had to flee their own because of the shadows. You start across the enchanted sea where loss is bound to happen before you make it upon a mysterious land they are reluctant to call home, at least for now. Upon first inspection of the new land it is bare and not something they have hope of ever loving, but after a night in a cave and further inspection, they find life. Something they never thought to find. After a night of enjoying themselves with their company and ally’s they meet “The Dark One” the big bad. It does end on a cliffhanger but definitely makes you want to continue the story in book two when it comes out. It’s an amazingly written book in the fantasy genre.

How wonderful to read a story so full of magic in which friendships but also enemies, hopes and losses are explored in an adventure in which wizards, enemies but also shapeshifters cross paths.

The descriptions are so real of Mayer that we are transported into the storm, where Isilen, an elf must fight to keep her crew alive. The novel is so detailed that I felt transported into this fantastic world where the pace, thanks also to the conflicts and intrigues, is not slow, in fact I was in suspense.
In the story we find action but also the characters are explored and characterized.

Valruin, the prince of «The Battle of Erathiel», impressed me with his courage and determination to protect his people and his family. He is so human and so responsible. I loved that he never loses hope... Never..
If you loved Cs Lewis and Tolkien and love the mythological, magical and fantastical elements, you will love it as I did.

«The Battle of the Erathiel» is a journey with complex characters and events that will keep you connected to the book. For those who love books about adventure and magic... You have to read it.

After losing their home to a dark and evil force, the ancient elven race of the Erathiel must embark on a treacherous journey to find a new home. During the journey, many are lost to the sea, and one is marooned somewhere far from her family but at last they reach a new land. As they explore this new land, they make allies and have hope for a new future. However an evil entity threatens their chance at a having a new home and protecting their new allies.

What a great read! This is a fantasy book so if that’s a genre you’re interested in, this book is for you! It definitely hooks you from the beginning and you fall in love with these characters. Lots of interesting characters mixed with some romance. Can’t wait for the 2nd book!

An epic adventure!
ARC Review ✨️
For this being a debut novel, I'm throughly impressed! It's hard enough writing a fantasy book, let alone a fantasy book filled with so many characters and information. It amazes me that this book contained all of that information but still made sense. The characters and the plots all flowed together perfectly, and I think each character came in at the right timing, so it wasn't all that confusing✨️ The world building this story contained was fantastic, and the descriptions were so vivid I was easily able picture everything that took place in the story! If you're looking for a great start of a new fantasy series filled with elves and dwarves, then you'll most definitely want this book added to your tbr🤗💕

I really enjoyed this book! Immediately, you get sucked into action, adventure, and even a little mystery! Elves, dwarfs, and other creatures. What more could you want!? I love the writing style.

I've had friends ask me recs to get started into the fantasy world, and this is absolutely perfect! It's much shorter than your typical fantasy book, which beginners can find a 800-900page page novel intimidating. I will definitely be giving them this novel as a rec.

This book has everything you'd want in a high fantasy novel and is definitely worth a read!

This book was a delightful read, I found it to be the perfect length for me. The world building was great, as was the characters in it. My favorite characters are Lothar and Turion, Mayer did a perfect job of capturing the warriors bond of teasing the crap out of each other. I am looking forward to the second installment of this series, it has amazing potential and a wonderful story.

I feel lucky to have this book on my bookshelf. This book is fictional but all the events seem realistic. The writer knows very well how to describe the thoughts, emotions, and attitudes of the different characters in a thrilling manner and draws the reader into a fantastic world full of unforgettable adventures. This book is a to-read book, it should be in the World Best Seller.

If you’re looking for a short fantasy that isn’t 800+ pages and you like books like the hobbit or Lord of the rings then this might be the book for you.
Fast paced binge worthy read!
I picked this up and finished it the same day.
From the first chapter you get pulled in to action and adventure. There’s Elves, dwarfs, and many more.
I really enjoyed this and recommend grabbing a copy!

What a great read 😊

I really enjoyed this book and the only criticism it gets is for being to short because I really like big, chunky books.

The characters are well written, although some of the names were tough to read/pronounce. The story was great, the writing solid.

I'll definitely look out for more of this author in the future.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Battle of Erathiel is part of the Across the Enchanted Sea fantasy series. When the elven race of Erathiel are forced from their home by the darkness they travel across the sea to find a new place to live. They eventually find land, but it is already inhabited. The occupants seem friendly enough, but when the darkness seems to follow them you never know what is going to happen.

I’m going to start by saying that fantasy isn’t typically my first choice of genres, but this book looked interesting so I gave it a shot. I think the author did a great job of world building in this book and I thought the story was easy to read and get into. I did have some problems with the characters names and trying to keep everyone straight. This book ends on a lead in to the next book in this series, so if you are hoping for a quick easy read that is resolved at the end of the book, keep looking. I thought this first book was intriguing and would like to see what happens to the Erathiel people next. If you are looking for a fantasy series to start, this is a good choice.
