A wonderfully organized book of the first century of the US, ranging from the lead up to, battles of, and drawn-out end of the Revolutionary War; the struggles to build up a working government; the challenges of expansion and political clashing; the debate over slavery ramping up and up into a final breakdown of war.

Illustrated with lovely paintings and giving examples of cause-and-effect for history, this may be a drawback if you are looking for ALL the ins and outs of these years, but for an introduction to non-history-buffs and a reflection on the details that matter, it is well done!
