From Amazon Best-Selling Author Daphne Loveling: HAWK
I lost everything years ago. My brother. My family. Everything that ever meant anything to me.
Now the Lords of Carnage are my life. Anything I need, the club provides. Anything else is unimportant.
At least, that’s what I tell myself until I meet Samantha Jennings. She stirs something inside me I haven’t felt for years. Back when I had hope. Back when I thought life would give you what you asked for if you wanted it bad enough.
Wanting is dangerous. I’ve learned that lesson. But when I look in those deep brown eyes, I want Samantha. I want to possess every inch of her body -- to hear her call my name when she loses herself in pleasure. If I was smart, I’d push her the hell away. Do anything to make her hate me.
But I know I won’t. I’ll never stop until I have her. Even if it destroys us both.
SAMANTHA
I first saw Hawk McCullough from behind the safety of a camera lens.
I try to be invisible when I’m working to capture a moment in a photo. But the way Hawk’s eyes locked onto mine, like the lens wasn’t even there -- I was exposed. They burned into me. Possessing me. Claiming me as his.
I can tell from the look in his eyes he’s damaged. Ruthless. A predator.
I should run far away from him. But I know it’s too late. I’m already his prey.
HAWK is a scorching-hot, completely stand-alone romance. It’s also the second book in the new Lords of Carnage MC series. HAWK has NO cheating, no cliffhanger, and a guaranteed HEA!
USA Today bestselling author of alpha males, feisty females, and smoking hot romance.
Small town girl in the big city. Incurable romantic. Hopeless optimist in a realist's body.
Owned by two cats.
A sucker for a bad boy with a soft center.

Hawk is a broody man with sides no one knows about. 10 years ago he lost his brother and has only had the Lords of Carnage as his family. He was playing guitar at Ghost and Jenna's wedding when he sees Samantha. Samantha is new to town and trying to start he photography business off the ground. She lives with he uptight grandmother. When she sees Hawk through her lens its an instant attraction. When they try to stay away from each other it don't work . With a war looming with a rival gang. Will they be able to be together or will other things keep them apart. Loved this book its a sweet and action pack couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more from her
I’m enjoying this series- each book is about a different couple but there are subplots that continue to run through each novel. Hawk is a broody hero at times but at others he came across as quite light hearted- he was a bit of a mixture of character traits but I liked him. Samantha is newish to town and is the photographer for Jenna and Ghost’s wedding.
These two make a big impression on each other from the start but Hawk tries to distance himself at times because he is haunted by things from his past.
Good story with an interesting twist to it near the end. This is on the lighter side of MC books - certainly not as gritty and dark as some that I have read.
The Lords of Carnage are living in dangerous times and I’m curious as to who is giving away their secrets.
Slightly better than the first in the series, but still quite forgettable. Has all the traits of the typical MC story. Hawk had a terrible childhood, leaving him, bitter, guilty, and emotional wounded. He sleeps around, enjoying the many bunnies offered until he spots the photographer lady. I don't even remember her name, and I only remember his because it's the title of the book.
I dove right into book two when I finished Ghost. I loved the sweet wedding between Ghost and Jenna and also enjoyed meeting Sam, the photographer that has come to Tanner Springs. I like the instant attraction between her and Hawk and also liked the vulnerable side of him when he's playing the guitar at the wedding. Sam is tough, having gone through a horrible break up, but she doesn't let that get her down. Hawk has a past too and I like how he was a bit of a mystery. More secrets are revealed in this one, giving more clues as to who is out to get the Lords of Carnage. I still have my suspicions about who to trust and who not to trust and can't wait to read more in this series!
Kaden “Hawk” McCollough meets Samantha Jennings at an MC wedding where she is the photographer. There’s insta-lust between them although she is in denial longer than he is. This is a satisfactory read, but it should have been better. While there’s nothing wrong with tried-and-true MC romance tropes – they are comfortable for us since we always know what’s coming – but there’s no real individual stamp on this story, nothing that tells us Ms. Loveling wrote it as opposed to any other MC romance writer.
Here’s why: Our heroine, Samantha (aka “Sam”) is like so many MC heroines, a little (usually diminutive), beautiful (always beautiful) woman waiting to be rescued by a big (always big), gorgeous (always gorgeous), protective (yep, always over-the-top protective) biker. As are so many other heroines, she is terribly self-deprecating, taking on blame for just about everything that goes wrong in life around her. She’s also a little stupid, but the writer allows her to do some dynamic driving to get out of a sticky situation. She walked away from a nasty car crash, with all the symptoms of a concussion, but a little nap and some hot sex with a hot biker made her right as rain.
Samantha is not an interesting person, despite following a pretty good career path and living in the carriage house on her grandmother’s estate. The writer doesn’t allow her to do much. We’re told a lot about her, but we don’t see it. She tends to be pretty negative, particularly about herself. She finds herself clumsy, out of place, embarrassed easily, and at fault for whatever drama her grandmother brings to her.
When it suits the story, the writer makes her stupid. For instance, she asks Hawk how he got his name, and he tells her hawks are predatory birds and “once they have a target in sight, nothing stops them.” [Hint, hint] Minutes later she wonders why he took time out of his day to volunteer to fix her grandmother’s sink. Hello? She really can’t figure that out? Even after he comes – ominously – to her carriage house and grabs her to extract a payment of sorts for fixing said plumbing problem? Huh.
Samantha’s relationship with her controlling grandmother is all over the place. She rarely stands up to her, and is quick to do her grandmother’s bidding. We do not see the relationship between them changing but there’s a quick shift at the end; no buildup, just a deeper understanding between them that just happens to occur.
She often treats Hawk condescendingly. He’s a biker, so is he a gangster? He speaks Spanish and she’s shocked that he’s able to speak a second language. There’s no growth in their relationship, either. There is no opportunity to watch an awareness grow between them, an acknowledgement of each other’s viewpoints and way of seeing the world. They are heavily into sex and then all of a sudden they love each other. But…there’s no pathway for them to follow, no consideration of each other, no discussions shared between them. We are told they talk. We don’t hear it for ourselves.
I did find myself wondering why, if the Lords of Carnage had been in Tanner Springs for decades and performed a lot of good for the people who lived there, folks still were scared when they saw the members' bikes and their tattoos? Even with the new mayor out to get them, enough people should have been on their side.
And…Samantha is a professional photographer who dumps her cameras and equipment in the trunk of her car, then rides off on the back of Hawk’s bike, leaving her car in an empty parking lot overnight and well into the next day. A professional would not do that to her equipment which should not be left to the vagaries of temperature fluctuations.
There are manufactured crises all over the book. One in particular is a confrontation between Hawk and an old ex-girlfriend which puts Samantha into a snit so she ends up jumping to conclusions and running off. They are at Hawk’s house, somewhere that is unfamiliar to her – she’s already narrated this fact – and she has no transportation. She walks off on her own, in a huff. And the big protective biker allows this. After dealing with his ex, he doesn’t go after her. Weird. Atypical of the biker archetype that is Hawk.
There are a lot of mistakes in grammar and, presumably, typing. For example: “Off to the side…sits a single chair.” Animate objects (like humans, pets) sit and inanimate objects (like books, chairs) set. It should read, “Off to the side…SETS a single chair. “Hawk bends down then, and pick a small, flat square up off the floor.” That should be “Hawk bends down then, and PICKS a small flat square….” Quotation marks will sometimes appear at the end of a line of print while the words appear on the next line. Not a big problem, but it makes a reader pause to figure out if someone is actually speaking or if the narration is continuing. “I need to calm down before get there.” I think that should be “…before I get there.” “Her the pain in her face gives way to relief….” I’m not sure what the writer is saying, maybe remove the initial word, “Her?” “…a distraction from what we know what’s coming.” Not at all sure what the writer is saying. Maybe “…a distraction from what we know is coming.” Or some such. “Now that we’ve found what we come for….” There’s an inappropriate change in tense. It could read, “Now that we’ve found what we came for…” or “Now that we’ve found what we’ve come for….” “…setting the anfo bomb….” It’s written ANFO because it’s an acronym for Ammonium Nitrate and Fuel Oil. Most search engines use lower case, but that's only for searching purposes. “Tell everyone to try to try to hold their sh** together….” There are too many “try to’s.” “…maybe I can focus on get some work done….” Perhaps “…focus on GETTING some work done…?” “…ordering a strict ban of traveling outside the city limits….” The expression is “…a strict ban ON traveling….”
A few errors are expected in a book these days. We can generally read around them. But when so many errors appear, they disrupt the forward momentum in a book and yank the reader out of the story. Even the smallest errors become intrusive when compounded with too many other mistakes.
I rated this book 3-stars because it was the same as a great many books already written following the same tropes. A strong, dynamic heroine would have garnered at least one more star. IMHO.
Hawk is the second book in the Lords of Carnage series by Daphne Loveling.
Hawk was the quiet brooding brother. He kept his personal life to himself but had the typical loyal bond with his MC brothers. Samantha was the wedding photographer that was hired for Jenna and Ghost's wedding, book one. She was new to town and getting used to the small town life. Hawk and Samantha connected at first site, and the story began.
It was well written and a quick and light read. The main story was the relationship development between Hawk and Samantha; however, the secondary story was focused on the war with a rival MC club that will be the main thread throughout the series. Although one challenge came to a conclusion, more were left open ended for conclusions within other stories.
Although it was enjoyable, it felt slightly disconnected to me. I craved feeling more between Hawk and Samantha. With that said, it was still entertaining and a good addition to the series. Next up on the horizon is Brick.
Yeah I’m tossing in the towel! Good God, I’m a fan of a visually descriptive book but this just killed any interest in this story. I acts forgot what was going on since every minute detail had to be described. I thought she was gonna note which foot the FMC put in-front of the other and how many blades of grass the lawn had. Not even Troy Durans narration could make me go on… DNF.
This book is a little heavier on the MC which I like but not so over the top to put off the people who don’t like MC’s much. The main couple are dynamic as well as total opposites but that’s why the books work so well. There is on ongoing background story within the club so I’m guessing that it’s best read in order but this doesn’t detract from the main storyline of our main couple. Humerus at time and a good light read as nothing gets really in depth.
So the relationship story line was going so well until one assumes the worst. Ugh...I really hate that. Instead of just opening your mouth and asking...it's called communication...it's a good concept...it works...she goes running off thinking the worst of him and not waiting to hear his side of the story.
I really enjoyed Hawk's story unravel...so sad about his brother and how he blames himself...my heart went out to him. Hawk is the main reason I enjoyed this story. It wasn't a WOW this is amazing but an overall good read for me.
I really did not like Sam at all and didn't feel she was supportive of Hawk...walking away and assuming the worst does not show love to me. Once that happened, I completely skipped over her thoughts.
I liked the suspense but only wished the author expanded more on this...if some of the get to know you scenes were cut short and more MC material was added, I would have rated this higher.
ARC Review of book for Daphne Loveling - This book is starts out with Cas (a.k.a. Ghost) and Jenna getting married by President of Sons of Carnage (Rock) and Jenna’s best friend Samatha (a.k.a. Sam) was hired to be photographer for the wedding. While photgraphing the wedding, she catches the eye of Hawk while he is playing his guitar for event. He continues to pursue her attention and become involved in each other’s lives but this actually puts Sam in danger from another MC Club called Iron Spiders who with the Mafia want to push Sons of Carnage out of Tanner Springs and take over their territory. There are many twists and turns throughout this awesome book with a happy ending. To find out what happens, definitely worth it to purchase this MC Club book – you’ll love it!
This story started off great. The writing caught my attention and I was excited.
Then somewhere halfway in the book, everything lost me.
The good writing faded away and the characters, particularly Samantha and Hawk, started to get on my nerves. The connection between them seemed too quick for this story and I was left baffled by how much they cared for one another in such a short time. This story didn't market itself as insta-love, but that's what it felt like to me.
Also, Hawk kept saying "baby" and I was just not living for it. He said it too much in my opinion and the way he spoke ended up feeling stilted and weird because of it.
All in all, 2 stars. It had a promising start but somewhere along the way, it fell flat.
Hawk is book two from Loveling's Lords of Carnage Series. This can be read as a standalone but I suggest reading Ghost first to get a better understanding of storyline and characters. Hawk is one sexy male lead who rides a Harley, plays guitar and is a tattooed bad boy. Samantha is a good girl, who has come to town to live with her grandmother after an awful break up. Sam and Hawk will meet and sparks will fly. Overall I enjoyed reading Sam and Hawk's story and I can not wait to see who is next.. Happy Reading!!
I love Daphne's writing and especially her MC books. I didn't think this installment had as much grit or suspense as the first book in the series but it was still a great read. The characters really connected with me and were wonderful together. I'm looking forward to the next book and hope all these dark characters start to come to the fore and show their true colors.
OK! I will admit it! As I read the last few words of Hawk, book 2 of Lords of Carnage series by Daphne Loveling, I began to debate if I should just download book 3 and keep on reading. I look around my house with dust bunnies so humongous they should be called dust dogs and I say "leave it alone! There are things you need to do! This house needs some serious cleaning!" My mind is correct but then I counter with "but I haven't finished my second cup of coffee and you hate cold coffee!" Yet, the voice on the other side of my brain starts in! "Your coffee is already cold and bitter tasting! You need to microwave it anyway! Leave the Kindle and get your self up and going! " That's excellent advice, I know, but the other side begins to whine! Seriously! I HATE WINERS! I can't believe my inner self would even choose to adopt that voice even in my head! But ,yes, my inner voice is persistent and currently has a voice like my baby sister's, which is like fingernails on a chalkboard. I just yell at her to get on with it. Unlike my baby sister, she does! " I hate housework! One more cup of coffee and the first few chapters ,please! Then we can work the rest of the afternoon!" Huh, a compromise! Should I listen? "NO!" the other voice screams. Now I feel a headache starting and wonder if baby sister voice is right and another cup would help! Before I can act on it, screaming voice continues with "Look at your home library in Kindle. It's overflowing with books waiting to be read. You have an error message from your tablet stating you are low on storage space. You really want to add more books!"
Grabbing my head, I stumble to the coffee pot, and pour another cup of coffee. I doctor it with enough eggnog and milk to take a way the bitter taste. I take a sip and sigh as I wander from the kitchen to the laundry room where I put the load from the washer into the dryer. Leaving my coffee cup on the dryer, I re-enter the kitchen on my way to --WAIT WHERE WAS I GOING AND WHERE IS MY COFFEE CUP! Turning in circles I finally see it behind me into the laundry room. I grab the cup and take a big gulp like a lost person taking a drink after being lost in a desert for several days! Finally, I start again towards the living room and spying my rocking chair, I collapse into it. Next to me on the side table is my kindle. I grab it and quickly one click book 3 in the Lord's of Carnage series! **** it! It is available through Kindle Unlimited so it won't cost me anything extra. I can always send some of my read books from my library to the Cloud to gain storage space. Finally at peace, rocking gently, my coffee in hand I begin the next book in the Lord of Carnage MC. Ahhh! I sigh as once again I am swept away to Tanner Springs and another romance and motorcycle adventure!
OK! I admit it! I am seriously addicted to Daphne Loveling and the Lord of Carnage MC series. Each book takes you further into the world of outlaw motorcycle gangs. And with finishing Hawk, book 2 of the series, I am dying to see where this club is going! It is edgy, oh so sexy and has enough action to keep your adrenaline levels high! Happy riding!
Second story of the Lords of Carnage MC (LOC). While it could probably be read as a stand, I highly recommend these be read in order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers, as there are reoccurring characters, consecutive timelines and overarching themes.
⛔️ Contains references to, or detailed scenes, with subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some, including: adult language; steamy adult intimate scenes; violence stereotypical for the MC genre, such as attempted kidnapping / abduction, assault, fighting, murder, drug use / distribution, gun running, threats, blackmail, coercion, child neglect, etc.
There are a few grammatical issues throughout, primarily incorrect word choice, missing and extra inserted words. Just like the first story in the series, the author uses adult language, but during the intimate scenes utilizes the type of terms my niece would have used when she was a teenager (i.e. “staff”, “member”, “button”, etc.). Not sure why this is so distracting when I am reading it, but it just doesn’t fit with the characters and their dialogue. I am trying to make sure I mention what I notice as to language and/or issues for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.
The world building is more complete in this story, especially since it expands on the first story. Hawk and Samantha, aka Sam, were both fascinating to me as characters. They had strong chemistry from the very beginning (maybe it was because of her thoughts about his hands that got me), which is not always apparent.
Here is a high level overview of how the story begins:
Sam relocated almost 6 months ago to Tanner Springs, supposedly because her Gran needed assistance. The request from her Gran came at an opportune time as she had just exited a 2 year relationship that crushed her ability to trust. Now she was working to establish her photography business and living in the carriage house.
Hawk is a patched member of the LOC. He first spots Sam when she is the photographer for one of his brothers that got married. He had volunteered to play guitar, looked up and spotted her. Hawk was immediately attracted and kept reminding himself that it was bad to want.
While Sam was photographing the wedding and reception, she found herself keeping track of the great looking guy playing guitar. When she first saw him, she couldn’t stop watching his hands and imaging all sorts of things … then it seems like he is looking right at her through the camera, something that no one ever does.
After that moment, Sam makes sure to keep track of where he is so she can be somewhere else, especially after he was approached by two women together and seemed to be into playing tonsil hockey. Not sure why she was so disappointed … Then before she realizes it, he is right there and introduces himself and she pokes fun of his name because she is nervous … he quickly lets her know that she will be loving it later when she calls it out after …
This book follows on from the first and isn't quite as good, unfortunately. Now that I've read a few of these books I can see patterns in the story telling, and I'm not overly impressed with this.
In this book we see Sam (freelance photographer, new to the area) fall for Hawk (biker gang alpha male) after they meet at the wedding of the couple in book 1 (Jenna and Cas). Their interactions from the start are a little off as Hawk is portrayed as a womaniser and has no qualms speaking to Sam in that manner. Through a series of accidental meetcutes they get together and become a relatively cute couple - but there isn't much time dedicated to them getting to know each other, so it all feels a bit surface level. As with the female lead in book 1, Sam is portrayed as struggling with her personal life and getting to grips with her photography business - but we never really see any progression or anything in depth around that. She is portrayed as a man's conquest first and a person second. I wish the author would spend more time fleshing out the female characters!
We also see more of the biker club plotlines in this book and it is really interesting seeing the club 'go legit' and stop illegal activities. Although I think this is a good plotline to run with, it all seems a bit rushed and like it wasn't given enough attention to. It feels more like the author flip-flopped on her decision to make them true criminals in book 1.
3/5 stars, interested to see if the women in future books are characters in their own right, or if they are all wishy-washy and need saving by the men-folk
*****I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Review Copy of this book******
"Hawks are predators, once they have a target in sight, nothing stops them."
Kaden "Hawk" McCullough is a dangerous, raw, sexy, hard core man that was truly faithful to the Lords of Carnage MC. He had unfinished business from his past that bothers him at times; therefore, he threw himself deeply into his brothers and business with the club. He was playing his guitar at his brother wedding when he locked eyes with her. The attraction between the two was noticeable even amongst the wedding attendees.
Samantha Jennings moved to Tanner Springs at her grandmother request yet it was at the right time, Sam had recently broken up with her cheating fiancé. Samantha is a photographer, she was hired to shoot the events of Jenna and Cas (Ghost) wedding. She saw a handsome, tattooed masculine guitarist playing and was lured to a light like a butterfly. As a photographer, she just couldn't resist the moment as well as the feelings within her at that time.
The questions from Ghost was answered but many more was raised. What is going on with Rock? How is the rival club obtaining information on the Lords? Who does Charlie Hurt estate belongs to?
I love this story because it mysterious, romantic, sexy and limpid with just the right amount of angst and drama known from an MC. It moved along smoothly while piquing my interest in the direction the writer was heading with it.

I received an Advance Reader Copy for Hawk written by Daphne Loveling and voluntarily reviewed this book. Samantha Jennings had moved to Tanner Springs as requested by her grandmother due to failing health, but it seems like she is not slowing down one bit. However, the timing was right for starting out fresh because Sam had just broken off her engagement with her cheating fiancé, and she wanted to set up her photography business away from all that mess. During a daycare photo shoot, Sam lucks into a photo gig for a woman who is marrying into the The Lords Of Carnage MC, and there she is mesmerized by one of the club members, Hawk, who seems to be just as equally taken with her.
Hawk's past has him steering away from any and all serious relationships, and he knows deep down that Sam could pose a serious threat to his heart, thus causing him to vacillate between kissing her, for starters, to keeping her at arms' length. Between the club's church meetings, town politics, rival club activities ramping up, just to name a few, he starts to question his indecision.
I enjoyed the continuation of this club's story. We follow Hawk as he struggles with sadness and regret, and then, finally, he permits himself to weigh what he could have with Sam, simply because he needs her.

I am a huge fan of Daphne Loveling, I read everything she puts out and love them all. I especially love her MC books and I honestly didn't think she'd write a series that I liked better than Stone Kings MC, but I'm thinking that the Lords of Carnage MC series is quickly becoming my favorite...they just keep getting better. I loved Jenna and Ghost, but Samantha and Hawk...oh wow!! It's those silent, sullen types that just catch your attention, you just want them to lighten up, maybe catch a break. Hawk and Sam meet at Ghost and Jenna's wedding and the attraction is immediate. This book, like Ghost and Jenna's, is sweet, sexy and exciting, such an amazing read!! Do yourself a favor, read the Stone Kings MC series, they're not related, but they are extremely enjoyable, then grab Hawk. Ms. Loveling even made it easier for you to get into this series because she added Ghost to the back of Hawk's book as a bonus...you can read it then Hawk and you're all caught up!! Can't wait to see where this series goes, really hoping Angel gets a story soon.
The second of Daphne Loveling’s Lords of Carnage MC series is called Hawk. As a member of the MC, he is loyal to the group with no family and other ties. Hawk was playing guitar at Jenna and Ghost’s wedding when Samantha (the photographer) was taking pictures. They both made eye contact and well - the story really started. Hawk knew she was all wrong for him. He was not a keeper, no serious relationships.
Samantha has just ended a long term relationship and moved to the small town to be near her grandmother. She has decided that she is staying in town and beginning a new business of photography. Samantha is not all excited about Hawk and his attitude toward her.
Hawk runs hot and cold, as he works on figuring out what he wants and what he can do about it. Meanwhile the club has some serious issues that Hawk is dealing with, which causes him to be put in harm’s way. And he does not think that will allow him to maintain a relationship as it wouldn’t be fair.
Hawk is a great next read in the Lords of Carnage Series. You might need a helmet.
I absolutely loved the latest from Daphne Loveling and her Lords of Carnage MC! When Samantha gets hired to be the photographer for the wedding of Jenna and Ghost the last thing she expected was to meet a guy like Hawk. Hawk plays the guitar for the couple and is a member of the Lords of Carnage and so unlike anyone Samantha ever met. When Hawk sees Samantha the easy way of getting a woman seems less appealing then getting to know the beautiful photographer, even as the thought sends him in the other direction. The two can't seem to get the other out of their head and yet try to keep their distance. A plumbing issue at Samantha's grandmother's house changes that though when Hawk offers to fix the problem. I loved Samantha and Hawk, they are such an opposites attract kind of story and a great addition the the Lords of Carnage series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Hawk is the second book in the Lords of Carnage MC series. It kind of picks up where the first book, Ghost, ends. There is a noticeable difference between the storylines in that Hawk seems more fluid. We also see a bit into the outlaw part of the MC's activities, and a glimmer that they may be heading in a different direction. The series is developing nicely.
The characters remain believable and now we start to really like some and wonder about others. They are engaging. Samantha is a nice addition to the Lord's of Carnage family and she and Hawk (aka Kaden) are a striking hot match from the moment they lay eyes on each other. Sam's grandmother Phyllis Jennings is an entertaining character and it will be interesting to see her part in future books.
With drama, suspense, MC action, steamy romance, and more, Hawk is an easy reading book that will keep you turning the pages. I am on to the next book in the series, Brick.
Samantha has come to Tanner Springs for a fresh start and to get to know her grandmother better. She hasn't decided if her stay is permanent or not, but it beats being in the city with her cheating ex-fiance. Sam's only plan is building her photography business, not dating the cocky bad boy she meets on the job.
Ten years has passed since his brother's death, and Hawk still blames himself. He meets Sam at Cas and Jenna's wedding. Instantly he wants her, but he thinks he's bad for her.
The two try to fight their connection, but fighting the inevitable proves pointless. Sam doesn't want to be burned again. Hawk thinks Sam could be everything he's ever wanted and everything he doesn't deserve. Together, they face their pasts so they can have a future.
